I bet seeing Muska stack up all that dough really bummed Steve out.

I think so too!
Muska was an great Skateboarder but he have built up a lifetime Job out of Skateboarding without Skating anymore.
He is still Pro on Element and is making toons of money with Supra... i am fine with that, but his old Team Mates from
the Fullfill the dream times like Turner, Smolik, Nguyen and Snyder are maybe wondering how long you can milk it as
an good businessman.

But for Steve beeing on of the most creative and sick skateboarders of his decade suddenly everything brake down
after the Shortys Days.
I have meet / seen Steve at some Spots, he was a crazy guy from the early begining. Always on the Monk Mission. But one
of the most impressive Skateboarders i have seen skating in person.

And after 10 Years Skateboarding on Professional Level, you become a Part of the Industrie like Rowley/ Jamie Thomas/ Eric Kosten ect. ect. or you get fed up of Professional Skateboarding.

Skateboarding is one of best Thinks in Life - the feeling to ride a board is just great. I still enjoy it any time. But skating on Professional Level to make a living for some Companys also have his dark sides.

i remember when this dude looked like a member of early Weezer, rode for foundation, and skated to a Donovan song.  what the fuck happened?
Does anyone remember that old Foundation ad where they said his doctor diagnosed him schitzo/insane and that he needed to take medication to combat it, but you werent supposed to do any intense physical activity so he just said fuck it and didnt take it?
Idk if that was for real or bullshit or just an exaggeration, but the dude always seemed strange. I love the part in his TSA part where he's just looking at the rail all crazy.

I remember when we were making that shoe it was like before all the crazy shoes that people wear now.. shoes people wear now are just like socks on your feet they offer no protection really. I don't know how people skate in those shoes that they skate in now man.. I'd rather be skating with some protection on my feet

The only smart thing in there. What is all this talk about not being respected? Respect is to treat other like you want be treated, not inane bullshit like money and cars.

I don't care who you are, skateboarding does not owe you anything.  I don't understand how people cannot see this.

Agreed. I think it's also funny how this hippy-dippy types usually have the biggest egos. Many of them talk this "we're all one, maannn" but they feel like they are more tuned in and deserving than others. Maybe that's just been my personal experience with the type, but it seems to be a pattern in all of them.
they try to hide what they are on the inside by being (pseudo) intellectual and "big picture hippy" stuff

In one of these funny, mystical coincidences that Steve could probably explain better than I would, Skateboarder just put up today an extended version of the "Lost and Found" interview we did with Steve two issues ago :

how can any of you knock this guy and say he's acting entitled or whatever you're saying? Steve Olson never fronted and skated everything he rolled up on.

You kids have no capacity to try to walk in this dudes shoes, like some wannabe aspergers motherfuckers. How would you feel if your crew started companies and left in the lurch? You'd be bitching about it because the skate is is supposed to start and end with your homies. Recognize that this dude just has a bigger forum than you and, well, we're all proof by virtue of participating in this thread, that more people care about his skating/career than ever will about yours, so why shouldn't he be a bit confused at times?

It's human nature to compare ourselves to others, obviously he could get angry when fucksticks like muska or greco get paid to make a come back. They're marketable and work with that side of the "industry." Steve Olson isn't a maniac, didn't skate DLX, and is Honest,  all making him comparatively unmarketable. He's right on to put it out there like this.

To whoever called Steve Olson "a pompous asshole": I really think you should try to reach and talk to him in person. Quite the exact opposite of that, actually. Really.

I can see Olson being a bit pissed. Oyola is and Olson was way more innovative in his time. Look at Vallely, he was doing fuck all when Olson was ripping. He was quite a bit a head of a lot of skaters at the time.

I'd also like to note that Steve Olson's tricks at Hubba Hideout would rank him as one of the top performers at that particular spot.

He's definitely a legend.

More so than a lot of clowns that are still in the game milking it.

I am going to watch his old shorty's part and remember him for what he used to be, instead of the whiny quitter that he is now.  He has a lisp.  Fuck.

I liked his skating a lot (1st tre flip lipslide down a legit rail?), but i dont fux with his music or ego nowadays.

Steve was dope as fuck, but that's probably all he has these days. His shine could of lasted longer. But telling that to clothing conscious new jacks won't garner respect or understanding unfortunately.

But as the slap poster "Steve" stated, I agree with. Skating is the new Barnum and Bailey on steroids.

he could could probably still put together a highly enjoyable part if he focused a little.  i feel like if at some point you're all angry and bitter or resentful about skateboarding (i'm speaking in general because i read no interviews), then you kinda blew it, regardless of how many flippy-doos on to rails you done.  Not saying i'm naive about the disenchantment that comes with turning something you love that gives you freedom into your job.  But you need skills in your mind as well as your feet if you always want to roll away smiling.  haha!

Awesome fucking skater...one of my all time favorite...but a complete prick, so it's not really a surprise that he's bitter, struggling & grandiose.

Hmmm..who could this fake name person be ?

Obviously you don't know Steve.

It isn't about money or cars , it's much deeper than that .

Imagine having people who don't skate but just make money from skateboarding, and the skateboarders, telling the skateboarders that they need to do more gnarly tricks.

I can say without doubt knowing Steve personally, that the poster "Steve", is not Steve Olson. Matter of fact I talked with Steve today and he doesn't even know about this thread. I'm guessing that whoever "Steve" is does actually know Steve.

All the people posting negative trash talking are without a true knowledge of what they try to speak upon with authority.
