Think im a try splay shoes next
A little lame but so is everything else
[close]
I’ve been checking them out but not ready to buy yet. Are you thinking high tops? Either way let us know how they go with all the barefoot/minimalist talk recently in the insole thread.
[close]

Lows always worked better for me. I’m thinking rev lts, I like the green color way but might just do black for now.

I’m a big supporter of the barfoot/minimalist/zero drop/wide toe box movement, those the only shoes I was wearing before I was skating.

Not sure the effects on skating. I heard ppl say narrow toe good for flick but also to skate with your toes. I think it’s worth trying

Price a little high, but barefoot shoes brands always tax basically just because they can. Just hope they last. Will let you know
[close]
Ok sweet! Yeah I’m thinking the wider toe area might help with flick but gotta try to know. I prefer high tops and the ones they have look like they might be a tight fit for putting on and taking off and I can’t deal with that after Blazer Mids. If these or something else like them works out, could change the game for me, skate shoe wise.
[close]

I really liked skating in the 101s (leather) They are stiff at first but break in nicely. Also: solay runs sales all the time plus watch out in the outlet section for deals.
[close]
Thanks for the heads up! What’s your take on the wide toe box and how it affects flick?
[close]

My flip tricks have never been that consistent, whatever the shoe…but I have big, wide, paddle-shaped feet, and having them hurt less lets me skate longer. So there’s that.
[close]
Ok, well that sounds promising. Are there any other barefoot style shoes you’ve tried or recommend for skateboarding?

Hmm let’s see…
Feelgrounds
Pro: comfortable and well made, decent price point for leather ($60 on sale)
Con: had to change out elastic laces for regular ones. Soles a little thin aka « lots of board feel . » Toe box not quite as wide as I would wish.

Groundies:
Didn’t like these. Ran small/narrow for me and gathered dust after a couple sessions.

Whitin:
Pro: surprisingly good! If you like canvas shoes these are wirth a try.

Con: wear out fast. But so cheap it almost doesn’t matter.

Reebok crossfit lite lo tr:
Discontinued but I liked these a lot.
Pro: Suede. Durable upper. Decently wide. Good protection for this style of shoe.
Con: sole has these little nubs that are flexible but wear down fast. The high top version is plasticky and falls apart. Get the lows not the hi’s.

Splay rev old model canvas:
Pro: reinforced toe. Made with skateboarding in mind. As wide a shoe as I have found for skating, while not being too thin.

Con: the reinforcement makes them stiff. I still prefer the 101 even though these were the first gen splay « skate shoe. »

Maybe I shoulda posted this in the wide shoe thread!
Keep hope alive my duck footed brothers.

Oh and honorable mention goes to the now-discontinued Altra Cayd. (Fuck VF corp! Bring back old Altra!)
These were wide, cushy, and built like a tank. Impossible to destroy. They were stiff in the sole, but if you’re a cupsole person who enjoys old overbuilt DCs, you’ll appreciate these.

Just got mine and im pretty bummed. First impression is they are so fucking ugly. I knew this online but I tried to put function first. I guess they are not that ugly but they are igly to me. It’s not even about the wide toe it’s just the shape

Fit I guess is ok, tried em on and my toe still hurts from friction on right side. Maybe it’s not shoe fault tho. Ever since es started trying to slim down accels to nostalgia bait? Save on material? whatever I got this fucking corn that won’t go away. Maybe I just need to break em in. It’s feels ok with no sock. Much better than a regular shoe would out box

They also feel like nothing. Again maybe just use to accels but it’s pretty lose around ankles. It’s says padding on collar and tongue but it’s not shit fr

Also they was $94. Prolly gonna wear these to work tomorrow cause my push shoe sole is giving out and the other push shoe I got is too tight. But I really can’t see myself skating these. Did a couple ollie in em. Idk I guess im gonna have to try hopefully not for to long. Not trying to deter you though could be perfect for you.

Thanks for the initial feedback and any updates as you try them more.
If these are your first barefoot shoes, there could be some period of adjustment to them. My first barefoot shoes were the Vibram Five Fingers and I put them to heavy use the first day and I was fine but those are the uglier than anything toe shoes that are not really skateable and they also form to your feet almost perfectly. Still the best shoes ever made, for hiking and activities like that, IMO and I clearly don't care about looks wearing those things but still need to find a barefoot skate shoe. I didn't think Splay was the answer just looking at their offerings so might have to keep waiting. I got a while before I need new skate shoes anyways.

Naw I have had so many pairs of barefoot shoes, lems vivo altra xero, brands I can’t even remember. I’m super tapped in. If i didn’t skate I would wear nothing else

Most are a little ugly but honestly I think they are just new companies and not as focused on style. Most nikes/adidas/Nb are ugly to me too but they just have thousands of models.

Yeah I don’t think splay is it. Atleast not for what I need. Was hoping they were a little bitter. Kinda hope my small investment leds to something better down the road.

OK, that is even better to know. Definitely not going to try their current offerings and thank you for giving them a go for all of us! Hope they and other companies take the feedback and make something better.

I’ve been thinking about getting a 10”+ deck with some Ace 80s. I’ve been looking at the Black Label Jumbotron deck and some other big boys. I don’t plan on it being my main setup, I just want something fun to mess around on so I can force myself to not take skating so seriously all the time. Anyone else riding a setup like this?

Not yet but thinking of similar with a Black Label deck around 9” with 151 T-IIs. I think that’s about as big as I want to go and it should be a lot of fun when I’m not on my regular setups. Their tugboat shape is the one that’s calling me most so curious to hear about that one. I’m not good enough to take skating too seriously so it’s always been about just maximizing fun.

I used to skate a black label lucero 10” cross with Indy 215s and oj team rider 2s. So fun. Was skating a ton of transition and pools but also that kinda set up makes flowing ur local park sooo fun

I wish they made a plus sized tugboat, I like the more squared off nose and tail. A 10.5” tugboat would be sick

i'm thinking about getting these for my cruiser. any experiences or opinions on these?
are these any good?
also how ice-grey is the wheel in person? how close to white?

https://www.slamcity.com/en-at/products/spitfire-60mm-skateboard-wheels-superwides-80hd-ice-grey?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=8c4e20d88&pr_rec_pid=7431999520838&pr_ref_pid=7431999553606&pr_seq=uniform

https://www.concretewave.de/Spitfire-Superwides-Ice-Grey-Wheels-60mm-80HD_2?srsltid=AfmBOoooDR3PPkbxvElaewVv5nGOyDdOWOzafCISFdo9xrFBP6EwiW71

I had some in this same formula in 54mm conical full

I could ride over all kinds of fucked up shit smoothly

They were like clear grey and got a little yellow after a while

They got kinda cut up on the contact patch

Heres my 80HDs after 3 months

But I really didn't like that I couldn't slide them, at all.

I just got some Powell G-Slides for my girlfriend, they feel in hand like they're gonna work great and I'm gonna get some for myself as well. I know there's a few people on here who use G-Slides on their cruisers

They're good enough for chico

59mm 85d G-Slides are 44mm wide

58mm spitfire 80d superwide are 44.5mm wide, 60s are 45.5 wide

I'm thinking about trying the Last Resort CM002. I am not sure about ankle height in these. That's one of the reasons I don't like most Adidas shoes, because they cut the ankle area so low. Nidecker shoes mostly have good height around the ankle but I haven't found a cupsole that I like the feel of.

It seems to me, that it isn't that easy to find the CM002 models somewhere. I am also not sure about the sizing. I would go with a US 7.5 like I do in all my shoes.

Antihero Horse pill. Either that or white eagle. Is the horse pill super stubby? Putting Ace Classics on it.

It is the same exact other dimensions as the blue eagle, only 10" wide, so although the blue eagle 8.5 x 31.8 with 14.25 wb is "normal" the horse pill appears "very stubby" by comparison, yet people who skate it say it is just the same only wider.

On the other hand, the 8.75 white eagle is a much longer board in both length and wheelbase at 32.5 long and 14.62 wb, which feels a bit more normal to me, in terms of dimensions.

I think the Ace trucks would work well on a Horse Pill anyway, just from having a few come through my hands and skating one on Indy 215s just to see how it goes.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I am trying to reign in my S.A.D. (Skate Acquisition Disorder)

But I have been thinking about these for a while

53mm Double Duro Hardline 101a/95a
and
Ace AF1 Skateboard Truck Lows

I need to sell 3 gently used decks, and 4 pairs of trucks first or the wife get upset

Also I want a new pair of cupsole shoes, low or mid, that have that new in-between style that take ques from the over puffy 2000 styles

You could make a thread in the events/classifieds with the trucks and decks you want to sell

Conical Fulls (22) or OG Classics (22.5) for 54 mm, if you haven’t tried them. That’s what I get when Radial Fulls are sold out, but in 56-60 mm.

I’m thinking of getting a pair of the Air Max 95s from 303:
https://www.303boards.com/products/nike-sb-air-max-95-black-cacao-wow

Also, I’m looking for stainless steel bearings that I can pack with white lithium so I can skate in the shitty weather. These are what I’m considering unless someone has recommendations:

TMX, also consider the spitfire radial full in 54mm. Same exact width and contact patch(25mm) as lock in fulls, but they're symmetrical, unlike lock-in fulls. Currently available in 93a, 97a, and 99a.

Chalupa, those are interesting, thanks for sharing. For my shitty weather bearings(which I'm also going to grease) I've been considering the seismic 6-ball ceramic built-ins. My logic is that with a built-in, tightened down, water isn't getting in along the axle and to the backside of the bearing. I'm also going to put flanged axle nuts(kinda like grind king rims, if you remember those) and grease in-between the bearing and axle nut to have an even better seal

TMX

Slap,

I am looking for some new wheels, I want some wide, squarish, wheels in the 52-54mm 97-99 (might try 101 see below)
and that have a 20-23mm contact patch.

On the list currently:
Ricta Speed Rings Wide 54/22/99
OJ Elite Hardline 53&54 /23/99
OJ Double Duro Hardline 101/95
Spitefire F4 Lock-in Fulls 54/25/99
Maybe some Snot Wideboys

Input - suggestions?

Thanks

Conical Fulls (22) or OG Classics (22.5) for 54 mm, if you haven’t tried them. That’s what I get when Radial Fulls are sold out, but in 56-60 mm.

I’m thinking of getting a pair of the Air Max 95s from 303:

Here is another SS option

Also looking at those shoes from 303, they are an hour north of me

Thanks for the wheel inputs as well

Would you say the Thunder titanium lights are worth the extra cost?

In my experience with them being so light the board has a tendency to like flip way to fast. That extra half pound of whatever it is I think is needed. So to me not worth the money.

Here's a pic of some 93a, 54mm radial fulls on 8.5" trucks from the set-up thread

I think the two main questions re any Titanium axle truck as follows:

How fast do you grind through them / how long do they last?

How much weight saving do you really need?

If you are going through them fast, then maybe not worth the cost, but if trucks last a long time for you, then maybe yes, they would be worth the extra.

If you are really in need of a very light (and very low) truck, then yes they are worth it, otherwise if you only need just a little weight saving then the forged hollow trucks are going to be just as good, same height, just not quite as light, but with a lower price.

I have had a few sets come through the shop and if money is no issue, then no worries, get a set, as they are good for what they are, otherwise working out cost vs life of the truck, or other factors all play into it, the most funny to me being that they feel "too light" for some people, which I didn't think was possible but it most definitely is - enter Gear Madness thread...

But that's my take on them at least.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

So I’ve been skating 25 years now, kept it pretty standard with my setups. Until 2025.

Skf bearings, imo much much better than bones Swiss. 5 pushes on Swiss is 2 with skf.

I also got some quantum diamond bearings, thankfully I got that at retail. These things spin fast. But the skf are smoother. And 1/4 of the price.

Spitfire 97a wheels in 53 and 56 classic, also 54mm conical. Any of these with skf make skating around Boston feel more like I’m skating somewhere with smooth ground. On top of that, they don’t hang you up on any tricks they’re my favorite wheel.

Spitfire 93a. A little too soft for my liking, but good enough for a filmer board. With the quantum bearings they’re scary fast. With both 97 and 93 you don’t get stopped abruptly from pebbles or whatever. Just bounce over.

Tried Santa Cruz vx deck. Flat, strong as fuck, but wasn’t into it.

Deluxe DBX boards, felt great, kept their pop, but felt kind of to flexible at the end of the day.

Today I got an 8.5 Powell flight, very interested to see how it performs.

Also tried thunder t 2 and the v8 ventures. They’re just trucks.

Yes I try a ridiculous amount of product. The stuff is usually given to a less fortunate homie when I’m done. I’m almost 36, I’ve got the money, trying different modern technology in skating is fun for me. Excited for this powell.

The answer is radial full 99 54mm
You're welcome.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.
