Think im a try splay shoes next
A little lame but so is everything else
I’ve been checking them out but not ready to buy yet. Are you thinking high tops? Either way let us know how they go with all the barefoot/minimalist talk recently in the insole thread.
Lows always worked better for me. I’m thinking rev lts, I like the green color way but might just do black for now.
I’m a big supporter of the barfoot/minimalist/zero drop/wide toe box movement, those the only shoes I was wearing before I was skating.
Not sure the effects on skating. I heard ppl say narrow toe good for flick but also to skate with your toes. I think it’s worth trying
Price a little high, but barefoot shoes brands always tax basically just because they can. Just hope they last. Will let you know
Ok sweet! Yeah I’m thinking the wider toe area might help with flick but gotta try to know. I prefer high tops and the ones they have look like they might be a tight fit for putting on and taking off and I can’t deal with that after Blazer Mids. If these or something else like them works out, could change the game for me, skate shoe wise.
I really liked skating in the 101s (leather) They are stiff at first but break in nicely. Also: solay runs sales all the time plus watch out in the outlet section for deals.
Thanks for the heads up! What’s your take on the wide toe box and how it affects flick?
My flip tricks have never been that consistent, whatever the shoe…but I have big, wide, paddle-shaped feet, and having them hurt less lets me skate longer. So there’s that.
Ok, well that sounds promising. Are there any other barefoot style shoes you’ve tried or recommend for skateboarding?
Hmm let’s see…
Feelgrounds
Pro: comfortable and well made, decent price point for leather ($60 on sale)
Con: had to change out elastic laces for regular ones. Soles a little thin aka « lots of board feel . » Toe box not quite as wide as I would wish.
Groundies:
Didn’t like these. Ran small/narrow for me and gathered dust after a couple sessions.
Whitin:
Pro: surprisingly good! If you like canvas shoes these are wirth a try.
Con: wear out fast. But so cheap it almost doesn’t matter.
Reebok crossfit lite lo tr:
Discontinued but I liked these a lot.
Pro: Suede. Durable upper. Decently wide. Good protection for this style of shoe.
Con: sole has these little nubs that are flexible but wear down fast. The high top version is plasticky and falls apart. Get the lows not the hi’s.
Splay rev old model canvas:
Pro: reinforced toe. Made with skateboarding in mind. As wide a shoe as I have found for skating, while not being too thin.
Con: the reinforcement makes them stiff. I still prefer the 101 even though these were the first gen splay « skate shoe. »
Maybe I shoulda posted this in the wide shoe thread!
Keep hope alive my duck footed brothers.
