I bought this setup for my birthday on November 2nd but I couldn't skate until today.
- 9" Black Label Suffer: My first football shape but I felt confortable all along. I was doing ollies, manuals and fakie shove its only.
- Ace AF1 55: My first push was WTF is this! They felt really loose but got used to it after a minute. Now I love them!
- Spitfire F4 Radials 52mm 101d: Just... wheels.
- Bronson G2: Smooth.
- 1/8 Ace risers: Just... risers.
- Jessup grip (tail), generic and shitty clear grip from Murasaki Sports (middle), Shake Junt (nose)

You get an A+ for color coordination. Beautiful.
I see guys do this often where they get 8,5Ē trucks for a 9+Ē board, whatís the deal?

Is it for lower weight or easier flipping?

Taper. Dunno what that width is at the trucks but many are far narrower at the trucks than the widest part and I at least donít like hot dogging one bit. Iíve hit my foot in my back wheel too many times doing that while having trucks too wide for the deck width at the back truck.

might also get an answer here
anyone redrill their board by 1/4Ē (+/-) and have any issues?
is wood filler a good idea to add strength?
[close]

It does seem a little too close, compared to the 3/8" distance that the six hole baseplates give, but I know people who have done it and not had issues.

If I recall, someone on here did break through the other sets of holes, but that was when the board shot straight into a curb or something that might not be quite "normal use" but I didn't go looking.

I have a Deathwish board here that is double drilled 1/4" apart on the nose and it looks like it would hold up well enough.

I've also drilled 1/4" and had no issues.

For eggs and football shapes, you want your trucks narrower than the width at the wide point due to the taper.

Aaah, thanks you guys. Once in a while Iíll hit my back wheel pushing, even though Iím barely hot-rodding.
But I could see how it would be extra precarious on footeggs.

Krooked Dan Drehobl shape 9.25Ē
Ace AF1 55s
Real 3 ply risers
Jessup Ultragrip decorated by my girlfriend
Spitfire F4 99A 58mm OG Classics
Bones Swiss Six
Pig rails
Some old bolts

Had this as my cruiser with Ace 55 Classics and 60mm Ricta Clouds for quite a while. Took it off a good while ago and regripped. The 55 classics were too wide for it as it tapers to 8.5Ē at the back.

Set it up as my main whip now and itís amazing. Really like the shape. Had a Welcome Nora before this which I couldnít get along with.

That grip is amazing! Good to know about the taper too! Iím a big fan of Ace 55 AF1s and iíve been eyeing that shape for awhile now! Howís the tail on it?
@Roisto Dont know if you can help me out but if youve had the chance to skate an egg shape 9-9.1-9.25 how would you say the board skates?? I bought a Drehobl shape a few months back and Im waiting to set it up after the current egg Im riding and would like to know how it compares. Anyone else feel free to chime in too haha

I posted some thoughts here earlier already. Maybe you can check those too. Overall compared to an egg I would say that this is quite different. The tail feels like a normal 8.5Ē tail (albeit short) whereas on an egg the tail is usually rather pointy. The nose is huge in width. Plenty of space there. The widest point of the deck is where youíd normally keep your front foot. Compared to an egg this gives you a lot of leverage. On an egg the widest part is in the middle where it really doesnít do much for me at least. Itís a rad deck and quite different to anything else Iíve skated. Iíve ran it on the 14.75Ē wheelbase myself for what itís worth. Short wheelbases are not for me. Probably doesnít make a huge difference to how the deck is compared to an egg though.

Could i get the general view of whether to run 8.75 or 9 width trucks on the Winkowski dope planet. I read the main man runs 159s, which i have, but then he also eats cold pasta out the can, which i dont do.

Looking at grabbing one in BF sales if the 159s wouldnt feel a bit small.

Straight out the can is more room temp than cold. Doesn't he ride those big oj wheels (called rockets maybe) they might overhang the axle and make the trucks feel wider.

Rode it yesterday, big fan. Was worried the tail would be a little short as I am used to the twin eggs but this one feels great.

Man, they're live now but I can't justify buying the Snelling until I get my next paycheck next week. Doubt they will be around for that long. I didn't really need a new deck for the stack but that graphic is too good.

Iíve skated them all, these are noticeably faster, acceleration is intensified especially on transition skating.

First post, but Iíve gotta sayóreading through this thread has been super educational. I didnít know squat about wheelbase or truck geometry or anything, so thanks to everyone posting their knowledge.

I just bought a Dead Dave 10.1Ē (itís coming in the mail) and I have a question about trucks n wheels. The DD appears to be pretty wide down the whole length, rather than tapered or fishy shaped, but Iím hoping can still make my Indy 169s work with the right wheels. Do you think 169s w the fat-ass Powell dragons will be sufficient? Thanks OMC

Most people prefer to have a bit more deck to truck and wheel on their setups so that should run well enough.

Washers on the inside of the truck axles also push the wheels out a touch more too, up to three fit well enough on most trucks.

If you do skate it and feel like it is sitting under a little too much, there are other wheels that are asymmetric in shape and sit out further from the truck axles, including some Bones / Powell wheels, OJ / Santa Cruz wheels and a few other brands.

I have a few 10" boards and 169 is about the widest I like to go, some with Rat Bones, others with Slimeballs, some with just normal profile wider wheels and they all work fine.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

The ACE 77 would fit nicely as well and not be too gigantic.
215ís are fun but limiting.
The 169ís will sit in a bit but be fine.

Ace Classic 66s would work as well.

I have a Natas 10" board with 215s and I agree they're limiting. Love them as trucks for using it as a cruiser, but for skating in a pool, sizing down to 169's felt best.

I have a Dead Dave on Ace 77s right now but ran 169s on it before. Depending on which dragons you get they shouldn't magic carpet too bad especially if you run a few washers inside. I was thinking about getting some of the dragon formula rat bones to replace my cruiser wheels, I think those plus 3 washers inside would work great for your DD 169 setup.

Thanks for the advice, guys. It's good to know the 169s will likely do the trick, since trucks are the one thing I don't like buying new.

The Dragons I'm looking at are the "V6" shape, which look pretty wide.

@minilogoflow, I have some old formula Rat Bones and just measured them...they extend 4-5mm beyond the axle bolts.
