You might hate it, but the answer is golf
[close]
I have heard this before, but I think this is the only comment mentioning golf in this thread.

I definitely see the parallels.
Golf is a (typically) outdoor sporting activity with social implications/benefits for the majority of participants. Most of the physical challenge stems from technique mastery and the demands of the playing environment. Same potential for fixation on gear to the point of “madness”. Achieving the objective of the sport (staying under par) takes a lot of focus and concentration (and some luck) and is immensely rewarding when done.

What else am I missing?

Golf is for pudgy, entitled, middle aged white boys who are too out of shape and not creative enough to do anything else. If golfing wasn't a thing, and you were just some random guy who loved to tuck in his shirt and wack a little plastic ball around your perfectly manicured lawn with a metal stick, people would fucking laugh at you. Maybe ask you if you need help. Skating / Surfing / Climbing / Cycling / Photography / Music etc. are all objectively sick hobbies, as in, if you were the only person to ever do it, it would still be cool. Golf is for kooks, there's truly so much to be hated about it, the antithesis of skateboarding. Don't get me started on the environmental impacts of golf courses.

USELESS WOODEN TOY BANTER / Re: Can’t skate… comparable hobbies?

If you’re Geoff Rowley, you kill animals when you’re not skating.
Apparently the rush of snuffing out an unsuspecting life at +75 yards is  a thrill akin to grinding the Staples Center hubba.
I’ll never know, either way.

climbing is fun. honestly if it peaks your interest hit up your local indoor. dont dismiss nor overthink the grade system. usually when i go with first timers who dabble with other physical hobbies they tend to overestimate their skillsets and think theyre capable of sending v5s or sum. they then injure or freak themselves out which sometimes leads them to can any interest afterwards. just like skating it’s got it’s own nuances

comparable to skating: shoe madness

I have had a set of purples recently that were softer (~1/2-3/4 turn tighter nut) but all others were normal. I've been riding cast hollows (Manderson and Kader eyeballs) with green, purple, and reds and they're all about the same.

As someone above mentioned my Ventures feel like a slightly lower, more stable Indy standard with 92's in except that they don't make feel racist and my representative clothing doesn't have as bro of slogans on it.

I've just set up some Venture standards with the purple bushings which are very soft. So much so, they're wheel biting rocking heel to toe without rolling. Do they firm up like thunder bushings?

They do seem to vary a bit, some firm up a lot, some not so much.

Any bushing from day one for a few sessions usually is going to be mushy and have little resistance, but most start to feel good after a week of skating for me, unless I really put in a lot of effort and just cruise around for a session or two, in which case they end up coming good a lot sooner.

It can also be the coating on some of the truck parts - hanger especially - or the bushings themselves, so if they do feel a little too squishy or mushy, take things apart, wipe everything down with something that really cleans anything off and they might feel a bit better.

Did that not long ago with a new set of Indy trucks that just didn't feel right, but after wiping down they were much better, more normal feeling.

Thanks MBirmison88. I didn't know that about new trucks. I ended up replacing the stock bushings with Thunder bushings 94 bottom and 97 top and it worked nicely. I'll likely switch to a softer bushing combo as it gets colder here in Aus. First time on Ventures. Had a relaxed 3 hour skate and was surprised by how comfortable they were to skate. I've read many comments about Venture's lack of turn, but it felt fine to me. Paired with a 8.5 Krooked Worrest deck (14.25 WB). I skate a fair bit of tranny and am keen to try them on something a bit tighter than the park I skated today.

Skate Questions / Re: Opinions on wearing protective gear
« Last post by bob george on Today at 11:13:41 PM »
I don't wear protective gear because I learnt to skate without it and find it restrictive/uncomfortable and kind of makes me fall/not land more than I would if I weren't wearing it - I am generally a street/small-medium transition skater. I'm not embarrassed by or opposed to wearing knee pads on big transition as it's out of my comfort zone and knee-sliding is better than running out of shit all the time.
