Blake Norris. He was getting Sci-Fi flow for a while (maybe still is) after Monarch died but I don't think he ever made it beyond that, wouldn't expect him to have any clips in this.

give Joa a board! would probably sell well
matt militano and frankie heck would be great additions, maybe they’ll get announced in the video or somethingOut of those three, Matt is the only one I have noticed meet up with the actual team from looking at ig stories they post. He's also the only one that gets reposts from the sci fi account. My guess is that MM is the only one that's actually on out of those guys.
blake norris is a good skater but he seems a bit kooky to me for some reason, put him on april

Joa has said multiple times that he won't accept payment or a pro board from them and likely never will. He makes enough from streaming/youtube and would rather have the other riders who don't have a second income get paid more. I am really stoked to see his part though. This is gonna be a great video.
He's also confirmed that Blake Norris is not on, rad skater but not quite the vibe they're looking for plus no budget for more riders lol

Max Garson is easily the coolest skater on Sci-Fi. I hope he gets clips in those Air Bakins.
Hopefully Ryan Lay introduces regular and fakie tricks at this point in his oeuvre.
I am BEYOND tired of Matt King's editing, especially the consistent inclusion of his own stagnant millenial-in-2009 Lil Peptoman music project.
I think Jerry needs to come full circle and skate to Bracket again. In any case, it will be truly grand to witness a final Jerry part.
I like this team despite this Bronze look they tend to copy.As far as I know Sci-Fi doesn't recycle borrowed internet videos as their main aesthetic, so what are they copying from Bronze exactly?
sci-fi has such an amazing team rn, can't think of any collection of ppl on a single brand im more stoked to get new footage from. Militano would be beautiful icing on the cake

Jerry has curtains he also skates to the same song Reynolds’s did in stay gold, his ender is very triumphant and as he’s rolling away he throws one fist in the air and a single tear drops down his face as he hysterically screams “let’s fucking gooooo!!!” Right as the trumpets start a blarin, The drone camera then zooms out to give us a Birds Eye view while everyone that’s ever helped him along his journey come
Into frame and start dancing in circles to the “om nashi way ohho ho ow woah hi eh ho ho ho” then the final title card appears “THANK YOU SKATEBOARDING” then the song switches to “loving you long time” by Mariah Carey and they have a montage of everyone dancing and having a great time.

Sorry to bump before the video is live, but figured ppl would want to know that the in person premiere has been confirmed for August 1st at brain dead in LA. Hopefully it will be online soon after.Around 15 is a great number of tricks for him. From his nine club this week, sounds like his body is broken down. I'm glad he's at least trying to make an appearance in his company's video. Sounds like he's going for stuff that's satisfying for him too so I'm sure they will be quality tricks.
Also apparently Jerry filmed ‘less than 15 tricks’
Yeah I was initially disappointed by 15 clips but then realized I've enjoyed parts with even less than that. Didn't that euro dude Oscar have a full part with like 10 and it was phenomenal? I feel like tons of other legends with pro boards have less than 5 within a full length too so im stoked to see it

Fully agreed with what’s been said so far. I went to the familia premiere last night and i loved it. The whole video is really cohesive and, as corny as it sounds, has a certain vibe to that’s really hard to describe but you know it when you see it.
Meeting the team was awesome too. I talked to max a bit, he’s really cool. Apparently he had some of the ideas for the music which worked really well. I also spoke to ryan lay for a while because we have some shared experiences and he’s gotta be the nicest pro i’ve ever met. Nothing but good things to say about him.

do uthink it will be out on vimeo b4 end of august?
standard length part, but it's good, he does some wild stuff. i was standing in front of joa at the premier and he was being very self-deprecating, saying there was a bunch of stuff that should have been cut.
Don’t care about this video to be honest.
Yeah some of the skaters are sick.
But don’t overhype it before it comes out.
I’m here for jerry. But you know the rest of it will be forgotten within a week. I do hope my bingo card scores the Kate bush tho.

Heath's TIS part is 15 clips. So is K Rod's Dancing on thin Ice for more recent times
15 tricks sounds like a superb output to me. knowing jerrys past production, he's not putting in a shitty trick, so they should all be goodironically enough jerry’s stay gold part is exactly 15 tricks as well.

I think its a great question, Kevin Long has had 20+ pro boards that just say Spanky on it.
anyone know if there are plans to release a DVD?The Bob video had music from one of BDK's friends. I'm guessing the tightening of music rights legal issues is whats stopping them. Youtube is more lax as long as you are willing to give up the monetization rights to the musicians.
idk why board and shoe brands stopped doing physical media. no way it costs a lot to buy a couple thousand blank DVD's and just throw the exported mp4 on to it. shit even having one of your in house graphic designers make a title/menu screen and cover art cant be that hard either. look at what quasi just did with BOBCBC. that was a blu ray and it sold out IMMEDIATELY! so whats stopping these other companies

Expand QuoteExpand Quotei really dont think joa is going to "go pro" from this. and yes he is much taller than expected.
music was rough to listen to in this video but thats subjective so ill just say im getting old.. handful of repeat spots made me think they shoulda filmed for another 6 months for this but there is certainly some good footage here, they all did some solid work. im looking forward to watching this at home and really dissecting it.
also heres a photo i took of jerry's merrells

its hilarious to me he's got a cover skating the shoes my dad has been wearing every day for the last at least 15 years.
excited to see this vidya
The influence of skaters have always been big for me. I was at the outlets yesterday and finally looked at the Merrell store when I never did. There was not one shoe in there I would consider a skate shoe and the fact that he skates in them is even more wild for me.
Sorry if it’s been posted in here here or elsewhere but is there an official release date for the video going online yet?

Dude, I initially read that as “pop shuv smith on a ledge pop shuv tailgrab 180 out into a bank”, like tech-ledge shuv smith shuv tailgrab 180, as if it was some weird parallel “shovey tailgrab” universe fully flared type shit, I was TRIPPING. great video, feels like everything shouldn't work as well together as it does? the whole thing strikes me as really special and a perfect encapsulation of the brand, skating was great and i got a few laughs out of the whole thing as well. (as i'm typing this i realize there's a lot of bronze/late nite stars editing influence in here)
ryan had my favorite part, no idea how anyone could watch that and say "he's slowing down," he skates fast as fuck and does everything so proper, i'm so glad he's finally getting his flowers twenty years after filmbot files
i get that people want to see corey glick skate big rails again but i love that i genuinely have no idea what he's going to do from clip to clip, skate IQ through the roof
would have loved a little more akwasi but i dug what they did with his footage. also thought it was a perfect amount of arin, if anything there were one or two jerry clips i would have cut. jerry's mini-hammers part was so good though
joa's part isn't for me but you can't say he didn't come through. need another rewatch to take in gabbe/zak/max's parts, max in particular didn't do much for me but his last five or so tricks were very surprising. curious as to why jerry hooked up these guys instead of (or in addition to) matt militano and conor charleson, if the video has any downside it's that neither of those guys were featured
anyways gonna go buy a sci-fi hat and help these guys stick around for a little longer

noooo damn that bums me out, i feel like corey glick was one of the few dudes who actually skated all of the shoes across the lineup and not just the eras or half cabs
I saw the video at Familia on Sunday and here is my report out:Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
Thought the vid was extremely mid in terms of actual skating...but full marks for having a cohesive brand image and fun b-roll to show the personality of the team. too much filler skating, no one really levelled up imoi felt the same exact way
Joa shows enough where you could see a really sick part from him, but then you get like a half-cab noseslide 270 out in a line and youre like??? if he focused more on the spot and utilizing it a interesting way and toning down the tricks, like more focusing on stuff like the euro gap nosegrind revert, the hardflip, and fakie hard out of the manual i think he could have a really sick part
akwasí got his ender a year and a half ago lol and the rest just seemed like throw away from a upcoming asics part
maxs last few tricks made you think why didnt this level of skating come earlier in the part, a line where he does two ollies and bonks a mail box?? dude use to skate rails and flip his board, but seems to have just phoned it in for the most part since quitting workshop and trying to be a frog dude
zak/gabe - nothing to say really
Arin..way too predictable, you know the trick already as soon as you see the spot, its all on her instagram. think there's a pretty good skater in there somewhere, but struggles to film/be in the streets. fs flip was sick
jerry certified GOAT,
Lay has been amazing for damn near 2 decades now, a lot of nollie and blunt tricks, but at this point in the video i just wanted to see some refined skating. he even made those arizona spots look good
definitely some throw away type of tricks in glicks part, but he came through with some serious heat. the ender is trick of the year for mine along with kadow's ender

Joa came thru with a lot of clips even tho most of them were pretty whatever combos
I don’t get Zack and Gabe, petty weak clips from them.
Akwasi felt like he had more b-roll than actual clips
Max was surprisingly good. Felt like he really tried to push himself.
Up to Arin’s part I felt like they all wanna be that wallie/zany combo guy. Arin had some good clips but pretty forgettable.
Jerry was great as expected.
Ryan Lay showing the youngins what it means to be a pro skater. Very good part and the highlight for me.
Corey had a lot of cool clips. Ender coulda been cleaned up though, especially for the last trick in the video.
A true masterpiece. It proves the only difference between pros and us regular "haters" online is that pros live in the right city and have the right friends
I love this video and I love this era (dad hat era) of skating. The music, non-skate filler clips, sound/video editing and overall aesthetic are just so much fun. Eclectic yet cohesive team, with everyones tricks able to make me exclaim comments out loud in excitement.

You could say these same things about the first 917 video, which came out 8 years ago.
I think some of you just don’t give a shit about the artistry and expressive nature of skating and just want to watch people do really hard tricks on shit you’d never be able to skate.

Is the soon tonight or by the end of this month remains to be seen.
(edit. now that the video is out no need for spoiler -tag.)
The video itself is really sick!
Soundtrack is great and I love how they managed to compile list of songs from different genres and decades and still make em fit together.
Tho I understand that the music is definetly not for everybody, it is still really ”fresh” and up to date set of song choises.
Zaks (first) song witch has been mentioned here to be really hard to take in, was small highlight for me and I feel like this finally got me in to Salem.
It also make perfect sense that ther is a Salem -track in a video by Matt King.
Zaks song got me reminicing about the early 2010 nagajoose -video that for what i recall was basically a ”witch house the skate movie”. Did some research and felt amazed when realized that video was alao made by Matt King.
Regarding skateboarding I really liked most of the parts and the part I liked least was still fine. There were like handfull of clips throughout the video that I would have cut out, but nothing too serious.
I think its not even up for debate that Ryans part has the hardest/best quality skating in the video, but at the same time it feels like the part almost fits the least in to the rest of the video.
Thats I think is also the reason they chose Coreys part to be the last in the video, over Ryans.
Coreys part is more suitable part to tie up the video.
If you guys over at Sci-Fi happen to read this. Please release this video on dvd. I promise I will buy two copies.
If I were Ryan Lay, pushing myself for my part to the point where I pissed blood multiple times and felt that my boss was conveying "Look, this is your opportunity. You know… Don’t blow it." and then I saw my part in the context of this entire video, I'd start phoning it in a lot more and giving these parts to New Balance. You would really rather his footage be edited like a new balance commercial than it was in this fun video? And you really think Jerry Hsu is telling him that if he doesn’t kill himself he’s blowing it, Chief style? He’s literally an endurance runner and pushes himself to the point of exhaustion for fun.
Joa rips but Jesus Christ that trick at 3:45 was probably the dumbest shit in the whole video like is that trolling or just bad taste ?
Theres slight changes between the premiere version and this final release. In addition of 7min credits section a handfull of changes in Joas part was made.
Also in Coreys part a curved boardslide was added to replace two weak clips.
Anyone notice something else?
WHY isnt this video as good as the videos from when i was 14??? WHY isnt the world as good as it was when i was 14???!! bro WHY does music not hit the same???!! remember??!!! it was so good!!!!!
Jerry, Arin, Ryan Lay and Corey Glick were amazing. Everyone else should be on Frog flow or just not have a board sponsor.
Joa was so underwhelming, krook shuv it to grind? Pretty harsh trick selection.
Can’t wait until the 90’s are over. These fits kids are wearing are getting harder and harder to take seriously.
Expand QuoteIf I wanted to watch "high level" skating I'd watch the disorder video or some shit.[close]
I think the idea is that creativity should make up for lack of talent. Something like crook-shuv-50 from a 2 stair to curb is neither skillful nor creative. It's just a dud of a trick, and there were a handful of these in the video.
I loved it. Fight meSame. I’m 51 and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Foot touch ender is blasphemous tbh. Felt like I was being trolled
Expand QuoteIt was more an incidental grazing.Expand QuoteFoot touch ender is blasphemous tbh. Felt like I was being trolled[close][close]
Thanks for clearing that up
This video has really put into perspective the divide between what people like about watching skating. I take back my comment about people being negatively biased. I think some of you just don’t give a shit about the artistry and expressive nature of skating and just want to watch people do really hard tricks on shit you’d never be able to skate. Nothing wrong with that, just two very distinct types of people with a few scattered in-between. That being said, if you didn’t enjoy this video we could never be friends and you probably have horrible taste in all other aspects of life.
You would really rather his footage be edited like a new balance commercial than it was in this fun video? And you really think Jerry Hsu is telling him that if he doesn’t kill himself he’s blowing it, Chief style? He’s literally an endurance runner and pushes himself to the point of exhaustion for fun.Expand QuoteIf I were Ryan Lay, pushing myself for my part to the point where I pissed blood multiple times and felt that my boss was conveying "Look, this is your opportunity. You know… Don’t blow it." and then I saw my part in the context of this entire video, I'd start phoning it in a lot more and giving these parts to New Balance.[close]

I’d 100% rather chop it up with the 18YO zumiez guy who’s down with Daniel Johnston and rebuking the patriarchy than whatever tired shit you’re on. Stay wack, bozo.lmao

Using it at the last trick in the video has to be some kind of message no? What are they trying to tell us? The spot alone looks like some kind of illuminati building. Or maybe they just couldn’t afford another night at the Airbnb?
God damn I love Salem. It definitely felt like it has potential to change how videos are put together for x amount of time. They did a good job making sure the old heads get something they want (homie edit at the end and names with parts, jerry) while being appealing to the young cats at the same time. Just a wicked video.
Video was incredible for all reasons stated. This feels like a generation defining full length in a way.

I really wanted to like this. But I didn’t. Jerry’s skating is still impeccable and the video is put together well, but I’m left with the feeling 90% of the skating was done on random sidewalk and bank spots and a lot of the skating felt rather homie level. Maybe I’m too old to get all the “weird” spots, combos and lines. It somehow felt too serious for a homie video, but also not fun enough for a video to get me hyped to go skating.
Max's part was sick tooFavourite part of the video. Best b-roll clip before it starts, too.

I watched the video again today of Xanax and I gotta say.
Sci fi straight up murdock’d the Disorber Video. Straight up savage style. Like Celebrity Death match claymation blood bathe types shit. This video is the beez. I even took the time to learn the whole teams names. So ima right a long review.
Gifted Spader was ill. Respect. Everyone always talks about him so imma skip that. He did good.
Akwasi is in the running for Wall Ride In Style KINGG. Double G shit.
That pole jam 80 fakie manny combo was some godt tier shit that I fear people won’t understand the level of insanity it takes to get. And Zak. Tail slide nose manny. Gd. Manny wall ride manny gd again. Good stuff dope styles and excellent kits. Those two make me wanna wear Acics again.
Max is incredible.
He tail bonked a mailbox. In a line. He’s got a great fakie manny steez. He has the accidental gino spins. And he makes pumping a manny combo look g as fuck. I do that too. It’s tough. && should be jello of us there. He did that Disco flip switch manny on the brick down pad. That might be the manny trick of the video. I liked it better than even that crazy ended. Purple fucking halfcabs. HOT! Speaking of gear. I think he’s got some tricks on someone else’s bloard in this. Cuz they got two clips on ventures and they ride Indy’s. The first fakes manny into bank and clutter and the 270 fakie nose piv on a bank. They should switch all the way. Join Us! That crook pole jam was huge. They got it all. Dainty mannys to Ill front feebles over the rail power moves. That noise may roll on nose grinder. Sick. I love that guys skating a lot.
At this point I was thinking this has gotta be the high water mark and it’s all downhill from here. Especially with that song playing. But then Janet Jackson started playing. I fucking love Janet. I’m like oh shit….
Gabbe does the manny pop gap into the bank on the 60 mils that’s filmed from an angle that don’t do it justice. Fucking tough. Back to back 540s and all the 360 stuff. Flip grabs on the mini. Benihana axle set. Madness! Disappearing into a tree to end the part off the roof and through the grass to grandmother’s house we go. Fucking sick mini ramp part. Can’t say that often. Sick edit too. Whoever edited this should be outsourced to other blands for tutorials on how to be funky fresh.
Arin and Jerry. Excellent split part. Nollie Tre manny in the rain. Fs hslfcab flip manny 180. Jerry decimates the bank to pipe. I’d kill to have that spot around here. I’d go no where else. I think she did a flip nose slide fakie manny back 80.
Ryan. I really don’t gotta say much. Everyone been knowing Ryan is godt tier. High speed lines. Long ass slides and grinds. He can’t possibly get paid enough by his blands. He had a Jahmal style into garage grind. That was my favorite clip in the video. Classy af. I love that shit. He’s got the tech “I could be on dgk or primitive “ over the ledge shuv to crooks type shit. He could nose blunt anything. Like anything at any speed. He’s going thought tunnels like Knox used to. Too bad they didn’t put the effect on it. That would’ve been dope as hell. Probably didn’t think of it cuz he was going so fast. Nose slide pop over to nbs. My second favorite trick in the video.
Ryan did my old signature trick from my teenage years switch 80 bag lady back to switch. I fucking loved that trick. In a line too. I’m pretty sure he switch flipped back t like two feet later. WTF?!? He is undeniably one of the greater skaters who ever lived. Nollie over the rail to narrow challenge tail break. If I could skate like anyone in the world and Bob ain’t an option if pick Ryan’s shit. What a god damned GANGSTA!
I watched that Corey part 2x too. Not counting the first time the other day when I scored a free totem pole. I swear to godt he’s gotta be a time traveler.
Some day they’re going to build a super style by combining Jim Greco’s DNA with Mark Gonzales’s DNA into one being. Make them skate from age 2 - whatever he is now and mail them back to us like the terminator to film this part. He’s finna 270 into everything and push while grinding through banked banana ledges for our enjoyment. Oh fucking shit
I gotta practice at home alone. Bland is canceled tonight.
Tomorrow night I’m playing a show in providence. A 3 hour drive. I’m playing with the murder junkies at alchemy with 2 other homie bands. I could yarn on about this video forever. Sci fi broke through to me today. Before this I thought they was good but now I know they’re tops. Not even like the lower part of tops. The top of the tops. Wholly Shyt!
Peace yall. Off I go get angry at my guitar. Hey…Who did Jerry skate too?. I need to know plz
Back 5oh up pop over front blunt. That is the trick I forgot is my actual favorite of the video. Nothing else that dropped this year is better than this video. Maybe the Tfunk just edged them out? I know some won’t like that but the Funk is Top top dog over any and all tech dudes.
joa's other two songs were cool also. never heard of this dude before. kinda reminds me of jai paul

I think the dude is trying too hard. This kind of look-at-me-I'm-constantly-ironically-going-against-the-grain egotistical shit is just tired. Relax, Joa. No one is THAT interested in you.
I think the people saying this is like a Bronze video are funny. The only similarities are 3d graphics and skating. Bronze is so much more loud and hyper than Sci-Fi.
I'm Jerry's age and I thought the music was amazing. I've always had a soft spot for skate videos that venture a bit further from the classic soundtrack. I think the multiple partial songs per part were a good call to keep people's attention over the full 30+ minutes (and maybe helps with licensing?). Although I thought Max's song was perfect and 100% matched his personality, I will have to mute that shit in future playthroughs because "isn't the world a craaazy place" has been looping in my brain for the past week.
Overall though, I loved this. I hope there's more in the future. I bought some merch immediately after watching the video and I'm hoping a lot of other people did too so they'll keep making fun, creative videos. I'm old and I can't directly take the inspiration and apply it to skating, but videos like this that are at least somewhat thoughtful make me excited to think about different approaches in my other creative endeavors.

This is the best coolguy vid because the skating was still great and diverse, the b roll wasn’t excessive, and there was only one abomination of a mumble rap garbage track. It makes sense, Jerry can do no wrong.Isn't this the opposite of a coolguy video/team? they seem super inclusive and unintimidating, and it's a lot of low impact "relatable" skating.
Jerry’s nollie hardflip was iconic.
yeah guess it depends how you define it. Regardless the team is stacked and this video is a total gem. It’d be so nice to bring up a new full length or gnarly part and NOT hear “oh I saw that ender on IG”. Sucks seeing people work hard on an actual video and 80% of the skate population watches the last 20 seconds of it on a phone.

can this become a sci fi thread until they post another video or something
also they could do a video called reason where skateboard robots (the team) refuse to believe that there is anything to skate other than skate parks, and visit some wild parks with single trick clips from singular parks to mesh the parks together like a park library. Meanwhile, jerry tries to convince them that there is more to skate than just parks but ultimately fails and is overthrown by the park skating montage.

I watched Blade Runner for the first time recently and loved it and have heard nothing but good things about PKD so keen to read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Any recommendations for other PKD books?

Nice to see everyone's great PKD recommendations. Of those mentioned, all of which are excellent, I think The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, The Penultimate Truth, Ubik, or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep are all great starting points that are very representative of his thematic preoccupations. Other popular titles like The Man in the High Castle, A Scanner Darkly, and the VALIS Trilogy are also fantastic, but kind of their own trips within the world of PKD. I would check these out only if you like one or more of the introductory titles.
Some outliers to recommend which haven't been mentioned are Now Wait for Last Year and Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said because besides being amongst my favorites of his, they deal with mind/reality/time-altering drugs and all have eerie parallels to the present day (alongside The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, the GOAT, and A Scanner Darkly). The cool thing about PKD is that if you like his stuff, there's a bunch of other novels and short stories to choose from. Speed tends to make one insanely prolific (as it also did for my favorite band, The Fall, and my favorite director, Rainer Werner Fassbinder).
Ursula K. LeGuin rules (loved The Left Hand of Darkness when read for a college freshman course). Other vintage SF writers I'd recommend (besides the aforementioned Harlan Ellison) are Alfred Bester (The Stars My Destination), Theodore Sturgeon (More Human Than Human), and Michael Moorcock (The Final Programme).

Along with Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Flow My Tears, the Policemen Said is my favorite PKD novel. I really love his short stories too. I should give The Man in the High Castle another chance. That’s the only PKD I didn’t enjoy.
Great to see a fellow fan of The Fall in here.
I need to check out The Stars My Destination, as I’m a big fan of The Demolished Man.

Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said was the first PKD book I read and also the first one I re-read. It's a favorite of mine because he'd really refined his style by that point and it has it all (drugs, questioning reality and identity, paranoia, etc.). Plus, it's the most Hitchcockian of his novels, the "wrong man" trope and all that. It's also namedropped in the Tubeway Army banger "Please Listen to the Sirens" (which was recently used in that Carhartt WIP Inshin Denshin video).
Bang fucking bang... the Mighty Fall.
The Demolished Man is excellent, and as a fan I can promise that you'd be super stoked on The Stars My Destination.
Gabe and Zac are pretty whatever.
Can't believe they didn't put Matt Milatano on. His part was better that a big portion of the video.

I just ordered it. I may be putting it on my reading list next after I finish Ubik. When Gravity Fails will have to wait.
I named my electronic music project I Dream of Wires after the Gary Numan song, but not so much because of the song. I could see it being a PKD book title.
