Been riding a Baker 7.875 for last bit. Time is here for new set up, but that size is super hard to find
Would it be better to go back to 7.75 or an 8? i'm on Thunders (147's i think).
Thoughts? Ideas? Hint's? Trick's? Tips?

if you wanna keep your 147’s, I say stick to the 7.88” or go up to 8”. I’m on a 7.75” with thunder 147’s rn and it just doesn’t feel right. some people don’t care about that small amount of overhang, but I do. not to mention the turning radius is fucked up.
This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

Skateboarding is nothing but a game to find the right fits to appear like you're a proportional human being instead of a midget or a giant.

Saw JK recently restocked some decks so figured I'd splurged for my birthday!

Hook Ups 8 x 31.75 x 14 wb
Indy 139s
Hook Ups 54mm 99a
Shake Junt triple ogs bearings, figgy grip and 7/8 hardware.
Emerica Romero Laced

Really like tapered shape of this deck and the mellow kicks and concave. I think I'm gonna be riding HKs for as long as I possibly can from now on.

the coordination of colors is great on this setup. haven’t had a hook ups board in 15+ years. need to change that soon. +1

Yeah, i feel like it messes up my turn radius with overhang
Gonna get an 8 unless someone re-ups 7.88 decks out in the world...

I have this sitting in my closet since I bought it when I was on thunders and I’m apprehensive on how it will work on venture
[close]

If you mean you have the 8.28 x 31.7 AH then I love it on ventures. Actually it's the deck that "unlocked" ventures for me. I think the 14.12 wb is probably one of my favorite sizes for ventures, it's compact enough that I can still whip scoopy stuff around but long enough that I feel solid and stable.

Latest wholly unnecessary board that I setup out of boredom.

8.38 Pet Skateboards "Bippy"
Indy 149 tits
56mm Loophole V shape
Hard Luck 1010 Swiss (good bearings but they only work with white wheels)
Griftape grip + some random blue shit
Riptide 90a APS bushings because I'm a kook

I got this deck because it was listed as 8.38" x 31.5" but it's actually close to 31.9". The wood shop is a mystery, it doesn't have any of the markings that I'd usually use to ID a deck. So because of those two things my expectations were pretty low, but my first impression is pleasantly surprised. Despite being longer and having a steeper tail than I typically prefer the shape is nice. The wood is pretty good so far too - it's quite stiff and snappy but lightweight. It doesn't have the explosive pop of some stiffer decks (BBS, pennswood etc) but it feels good and solid and gets up off the ground pretty well. Kind of feels like drifter to me, but with a little more pop than the first one I tried. Overall I'm bummed that it's not the short and fat deck that I was expecting but it's a pretty good board nonetheless.
His boards are a mix of clutch and drifter. All the ones I’ve had have been pretty good. He tends to make relatively short boards and he is coming back to sell them starting on the 31st. Hope this is some help

Losers 8.25
Tensor 5.5 ATG MAG
Wreck wheels 52mm 83b

Wreck Wheels not feeling too great, day one. On paper they're the same specs as the bones v3s, but they feel more like 100a. Can't call the trucks until I break in the bushings. I hate the concave of the deck, but I gotta skate it anyway. You flat deck riders are nuts.

where you from!? Never heard of wreck wheels or losers

Losers is my own thing
Wreck is just some wheel company that popped up a while back. I was looking for some bones v3 83b alternatives, and these aren't it. even feel both to the touch than bones.

Yup! It's not the shape, it's the concave. I saw the flat concave and was like. THAT SOUNDS DOPE, then started riding it and immediately realize I hate it. But It's what I ordered, so I'm riding them. The last one turned out okay, because I had same trucks, wheels, ETC, but now that I'm a whole new setup I'm just not too hyped after the first session.

Them the breaks, not every experiment has positive results.

Give those Tensors some time, even try bones in them if you aren't feeling them.

I've been on Ventures for the past couple of weeks and just switched back a few days ago; besides the grind being fucking super, they're just so much more nimble than Ventures; they really do remind me of Thunders.

Not saying everyone will love flat shapes. I love the look of flat boards, most likely due to staring at boards during the trilogy era. That guy Roman? (@romliss) has a perfect looking flat set up. Asaaaanyways, I notice that the flat boards can take some getting used to, and they definitely expose my tricks that just sort of arrived. What I mean by that is I’ve had more than a few flip tricks just sort of work, not great, but they are close enough, that I didn’t really work for. Often it’s something with a scoop. Concave helps leverage some shit around. Flat you really need to do the work. Long ramble longer than I meant, and all to say: a little time on the flat shit and you might start liking it. Just change some of your foot positioning around a bit. Hope it get better

I think it was last season, but krooked had a board on this shape. And I missed it. Julien used to have his deck released on this shape sometimes, but I dunno if that was just the rotation or if he actually skated that size.
I like short boards, but I am short. My first skateboards were also 80s boards that were never 32” long.
Anyways, how ya’ll liking this?

While I haven’t tried this particular one with the ventures I’m on I’ve had this shape on thunders on a business and company deck and I absolutely loved it. I’m short though.

Haha thanks it's totally on accident. But I'd def recommend the HKs. Good BBS wood and shape if you like tapered and mellow kicks. And like I said he just restocked a bunch this week on his shop.

Currently riding it with Tensor ATGs. It's a really good board but small nose and tail still bother me occasionally. Also i have hard time still separating which one is tail and which one is nose since they feel so similar. Almost like twin tail type of deal.

Still a great board tho, but i def want bigger nose and tail next time.

No sir. Its utilizing what little technology we have to make it easier to land cooler stuff and in return, make it more enjoyable.

Im on a similar setup w trucks but 53 easy streets and a 8.5" dual tail. Im debating grabbing those wheels though. Question, when you let go of your tail and the front wheels make contact with the ground on tensors, do you notice its a different frequency than on Indys? Im going to test it with a rta cus Im going crazy in rain ans lockdown right now

AH Raney 8.12” x 31.38” 14” WB III on the press
Thunder 147 with black Indy bushings
Spitfire F4 classic 53mm 99du
Reds
Mob M80

Stoked to try out a new shape. Been on the 8.28” x 31.7” 14.12” WB kick for about a year. Stoked to support Raney as well. Can’t bring myself to try something other than BBS.

By any chance have you actually measured this bored? Id love to try their 8.18 boards but 31.38 just seems way too short for me

Just measured mine, true to size

Ditto, measures as advertised

I think it was last season, but krooked had a board on this shape. And I missed it. Julien used to have his deck released on this shape sometimes, but I dunno if that was just the rotation or if he actually skated that size.
I like short boards, but I am short. My first skateboards were also 80s boards that were never 32” long.
Anyways, how ya’ll liking this?

Today was the first day I was able to skate it. I love it. Just skating flat ground though. I could see it being a little squirrelly on transition. First 14” wheelbase I have ever skated and I’m sold on it. I’m short though. I could see a taller person hating this.

Perfect. That's a slick?

Yep, Slick for easy slides and lock-ins / mag trucks for locked in lengthy grinds - I can't tell if it's a lazy set-up or smart...you know, work skate smarter not harder ;)

Different frequency than on Indys

Time or pitch? The Tensors do have a different overall feel due to being magnesium, stupid light of course and the grind/sound of your setup does taking a bit to get used too, but once you do, it's all gravy. It feels like cheating, especially when you are hauling ass. It makes cruising and slapping so effortless (fewer times getting pitched but it isn't flawless).

It's like running forged plates vs cast, you get different audible characteristics from your board. Cast is duller, more solid whereas forged is usually 'thinner', tinny and more 'hollow' sounding. Tensors fall into that 'forged' sounding category.

As for the wheels, I'm coming off radial slims for the past few days and I haven't really felt much of a 'lock-in' difference, surface area is nice as is the 99a vs 101a as I'm using this setup for 'cruising' street skating where I hit spots and move on.

I mean pitch but I think it may be more related to the heavier trucks lowering the resonant frequency of the deck as Im comparing to forged indies. But the maglite's material definitly absorbs vibration less giving that "hollow feel" you mention. I agree on the grinding on tensor mags is unreal smooth and suprisingly fast. Just fun trucks to ride.

They also don't grind down as fast as I thought they would.
