New deck today after retiring my much loved Magenta Ocean Series. Magenta decks are scarce at the moment, especially in my size so...

Picked up this cheap Enjoi deck, haven't skated one since my early 20s so thought I would give it a whirl, and I'm not exactly spoilt for choice with 7.75s anyway, gotta take what you can get.

Never had graphic grip before, it didn't actually exist when I skated the first time around, had some store credit so figured, why not, beats spray painting an arrow on the deck like I used to end up doing.

This deck has steeper kicks than the Magenta, so will be interesting to see how I adjust to that...I was quite into the mellow concave and mellow kicks thing that board had going on.

Enjoi 7.75
Tensor Mag Light Low 5.0s with banana stance
Spitfire Formula 4 classic 50mms
Mini logo bearings

hey how are the minilogo bearings are they above/below reds? thanks :)

my ankle is almost good enough to where i might be able to roll around so i finished this thing yesterday
- hand-down board that i carved up, the nose and tail were chipped and razor'd as fuck so thats why they look like that. i shortened and slimmed it up, used to be an 8.5 and now its like an 8.125
- trucks are monster hangers that i rethreaded and thunder baseplates that brought back to life with new kingpins
- old-split bushings with no washers so the thing can actually turn
- wheels and bearings from pennswood 60mm and 80a i think
- griptape is kinda gnarly but i am a recovering addict so i think that gives me a "free pass" to have mickey mouse shooting up

Maybe slightly better than reds, but not like a super crazy amount. Unlike most people I don't hold reds in very high regard, so saying these are better isn't really significant. For what it's worth I think mini logos are just as good as reds, and everything s1 makes is better than bronson. As much as it pains me to say this because I'd love nothing more than to call him a charlatan snake oil selling kook, if you're going to spend $25 on bearings then just get Rockin Ron's shit. Those are actually probably the fastest bearings I own.

Black magic grip-wise is nice. Maybe slightly grittier than jessup, but you don't feel locked in place like you do with fresh mob or jessup ultra. What isn't nice about it is everything else. It's thinner (like jessup or shake junt) and even with a brand new blade it's prone to tearing when you cut it. Not that it matters though, because it also chips worse than any grip I've ever used. Your board will look like it got mauled after the first session if you're skating on anything other than a slippery indoor park floor. I don't know if it was different back in the day or I just didn't notice stuff like that as much, but  I honestly only use it because one of my friends is a dipshit who impulse bought a case of the stuff on ebay.

Woah, stoked to be back on the board(s)! When my son was born 2 years ago I pretty much put all my hobbies on hold, but I wasn't skating too much back then either. I kept the decks by the front door so that I would see them every day and I figured sooner or later I would take them out again. Maybe it was playing Skate 3 and then Skater XL coming out, maybe it was seeing little clips and stuff here and there, maybe it was all the new skate parks popping up near me, but damn it feels good to be rolling again now. Since I was never any good, I don't feel any worse now either. My old Polar was feeling a little mushy and apparently big boards are the things so I stepped up from 8" to 8.5.

I wanted something with a squareish nose and this seemed to fit the bill. It's a bit weird to be honest, like low concave but steepish kicks, kinda reminds me of the deck I made in shop class at age 10-11 (used yellow 40grit sandpaper for grip, learned to ollie on that board lol). But mainly it just feels more solid to have more space on the board, 8 inch feels so skinny in comparison.

Threw on some old barely used Indys with hard Bones from my cruiser, found some 52mm Koston Spitfires in a bag of random parts and bought some Reds and hit the park on my "lunch break". Had to black out that damn red bolt though, it was so distracting  :P
take what small comfort there may be left
seize what you love and damn all the rest

I know it's not a popular brand around here, but I got a good price on an Impact Light deck and wanted to give it a go.  I am 200+ lbs and tend to either break boards or have them sog out prematurely.  I also like steep kicks and stiff decks (I have had good experiences with South Central and Dwindle R7s for that reason).  Anyhow, my first impressions are mixed.  This thing is super stiff - even by my tastes.  There is pretty much zero flex.  This is great for landing off bolts without consequence, but it is actually pretty rough on my feet.  I am wondering if it will mellow out even the slightest bit with time and/or if I will adapt and stop being a baby.  Does anyone else have experience with the Impact Lights?  I recall Buttfart Rapedick saying something similar.  I also share in his assessment of the Loophole wheels; They are fantastic.

I dunno if I've ever done this after one session, but I set up a Polar board yesterday and just skated flat, and I immediately hated it. I normally like Polar boards, but this one had a really tapered nose and tail that made it feel tiny. It's marked as an 8.25, but most of the board measures smaller than that. I'm sure I could get used to it, but I'm really not in the mood to adapt to something different right now. Been preferring boards with a more full shape/big nose and tail, and this was the best I could find at the shop.

Polar Shin 8.75
Thunder 151s Teams,  stock bushings(no risers bc... wheel wells!)
Slightly worn 54mm F4 101s
Indy Black bearings

I think 44s would be great on this also, like yellow one above.
