The first board for the 1000th page. This will be my first time on Ventures in decades. So who knows how this’ll pan out. Might be selling some trucks soon.

8” shop deck
Venture 5.0 trucks
Spitfire 54mm 99a wheels
Bones Swiss bearings
Generic hardware
[close]

Oh damn love that Kd graphic, how's the wood?
[close]

Seems fine. I skated it on some Indys over the summer and it was good. There are a few "eras" for this shop's decks, and I'm not sure if this one is from BBS or from whoever is making their decks now.
[close]

Oh nice might gamble on one for $40.

FWIW word on the street is that Black Market is using whatever wood Scram is (Scram is essentially run through Black Market Skates)

I’m broken hearted and posting now out of grief. The deck chipped out today after a couple months of good skating. Really wish I would have bought a grip of them when they were available.

Creature John Gardener twin tail. Something like 8.8 at its fattest.
Picture has Ace 33s, but switched up to 44s and those fit a lot nicer.
Spitfire conical full 97a 56mm.
Reds. Indy hardware. Jessup griptape. Indy 1/8 risers. Added a single pig rail and it worked real good.

RIP to a real one.

Lately Ive been having trouble getting my tail/nose to touch the ground when popping stuff, even though I didnt change anything about my setup (standard indys, Antihero, spitfires), no new wheels or anything that would make my setup higher from the ground.
So Im looking for some lowrider stuff right now.
Can anyone recommend what to get? Specifically:
- switch to indy mids, or even some lower truck from other brand
- which trucks have the geometry, that has the axles closest together? I guess thats also a factor
- shorter wheelbase means tail touches the ground sooner when popping, right?
- getting something like Real twin tail might help? Any other brands that make symmetrical shape?

Appreciate any recs and or advice

As much as I obsess over gear, I'm p sure a cheaper and more efficient way around this would be to just spend 10 minutes fixing your technique.

sorry

Ive been skating for far too many years to "fix my technique in 10minutes" and Ive spent the past year or so struggling with this, making effort to "relearn" timing of pop and so on, but I just really feel that a lower setup would be better for me now.

Fresh wood for my secondary setup. Forgive my sins on this one. Updates to my primary board will be more SLAP-approved.

Anno Domini made in Colorado 8.5x31.875" 14.25" wheelbase (measured)
Krux K5 8.5" + bones hard + DLKs /w 2 washers inside 1 outside
F4 CF 54mm 99a
Big Balls Reds popped + spacers

Haven't had a chance to ride it since it's raining on my day off. Will be the shortest length and wheelbase board I've ever ridden.
[close]

How's the shape on these AD blanks? Was thinking about getting some to try out. Anymore first impressions with the deck you can share?
[close]

I've only been skating again for 4 months now so I don't have any sage wisdom to impart. I fucked around in the garage for a few minutes and the deck feels properly crispy like a new deck should. Lives up to the steep concave description. Idk if I like the short length and wheelbase being 6'2" but I'm gonna get used to it because I have 3 of these to skate through. Also have a Polar Shin My. Fuji deck on ice.
[close]

It's all good thanks man. I'm a little leery on short length and WB too as a 6'3 guy myself but I'm looking at some blanks in either 8.75 or 8.9 so hopefully they're longer. I messaged them about dimensions and I got an email from them with a spec chart but your measurements are different.  Here's what I got:

"Thanks for reaching out, we'd be stoked to work with you!

Here's the dimensions below:

Width                      Shape                            WB                     Tail                       Nose                     Length

Did you request a large order? Maybe they have different dimensions for shop orders. I only bought 3 decks.
[close]
whats the pricing like on these guys for oem? comparable to sc or another american made woodshop?

Their prices wont vary too much for the price of their shop blanks, couple of dollars for dyed veneers and shipping. 1-time graphic costs with a few more for applying them. Bulk prices only come into play above 100 but there is a 2 month wait period. Hit them up on IG / email for a quote, Kevin is very helpful with replies, but his last email indicates they are undergoing some operational changes in the next year. I think they are getting overwhelmed with order and will need to find another woodshop to help with production. And definitely hit them up for the accurate measurements. Kevin mentioned they have 2 molds ADSS (AD Short & Steep) and ADSL (AD Long & Steep), but only ADSS is in production at the moment.

I'm 9 sessions into mine, around 24 hours of skating in and the board is finally giving out. Tail is 3 plys down and I'm getting razor tail, no flex but it is mushing out quite fast. I did a few board-breaker tricks (Hardflip, FS Flip, Lipslides) and the wood held up fine. Feels I could feasibly do another 2 sessions before it gives out completely, but for the price I won't complain in the least bit.

In terms of overall ranking somewhere comparable to Clutch. You wont get the thin, light and stiff Generator or DSM quality but for the price it's great value. The best thing I can say about it is the shape, blanks with a full nose and tail are quite rare.

If you're planning on doing a run with definitely get a sample, they did 2 graphic decks for $60 during BF, if you're ok with strongly religious graphics.

8.38 14.25wb snack
ace 44 classic
spitfire f4 classics 56mm 97a
reds
diamond bolts
jessup grip
regular shelltoes

that last snack i had cracked in the middle in 2 sessions in a really weird way, like a kinda huge chip
on the bottom of the board. mad pressure cracks too,  even with thin rubber risers. i don’t recommend clutch wood. this one is a ps stix and it feels a lot better right off the bat and i like that shape more. it’s 31.7 after measuring and skates great, boards with short tails and large noses work for me. working at the skateshop got me actin crazy and i already have another deck on ice, a girl carroll 8.375. these worker discounts really hit different

Nice setup..I like long nose short tail too, how is that Carroll 8.3 shape?

i'm still waiting for it to arrive, got it when we were ordering stuff from a distributor, i think it's going to be here on monday or tuesday so i'll let you know then

Quasi 8.25 BBS
Royals w/ Riptides
52 F4 Classics who knows what they are now
Swiss 6
Silverados
Grizzly, first time with it and it feels a lot like Jessup
Uprise Skate Half Cabs

Shape is very steep compared to what I came off of, but pretty short. The tail feels a bit steeper than PS Quasi's I have had in the past. Coming off a really flat deck it will take some time to get used to again.

So besides just not getting down low enough, between two different setups, one with a steeper board and one with a more mellow board, if I have been on the mellow board, I do the same as you and ghost pop on the steeper board, as I am more used to the more mellow board, it being lower when the tail hits the ground, but apart from that they are two pretty much identical setups (Antihero, Indy standards, Spitfire 52-54mm wheels).

Sure you can change up a lot of things, but getting down a bit lower means you will adjust to it better, or just getting a more mellow deck, even of the same brand often helps.

DLX boards are labelled on top I to IV, with I being the steepest and IV being the most mellow, but there are other ways to mellow out a board too, such as parking on it, or even just driving over it.
[close]

Thanks for the tips

I just spent a few hours on youtube and I think I found out what to try, so if anyone else is wondering how to go low and avoid ghost pop:
-get a board with mellow kicks (this is usually never stated or visible online, so I will just shuffle through a lot of decks on my next visit to the shop
-get a board with a shorter wheelbase
-have wheels 53mm or smaller
-have low/mid trucks
-have trucks that have a shorter wheelbase, eg. thunder or ventures are farther apart, indys or aces are more closer together (the geometry of the trucks makes their axles be closer together or farther apart when assembled, so for example if you have Ventures on a deck with 14.25 wheelbase, the real wheelbase is going to be longer, than if you had Indys on the same deck with the same wheelbase)

I guess this is common knowledge to some, I even remember stumbling upon these videos I just watched in the past, but I never really gave too much attention to it because I never felt the need, but now that Im almost hitting 30 I feel I have to lower my setup

I'm tall and I struggle with short tails. I mainly look for decks that have more fingers of flat, but aren't too mellow. Counter intuitively I think most short WB decks work better with Aces, effectively making more fingers of flat. Longer wheelbase decks are easier to hit the tail, but can feel heavy.

The Loopholes are such a fun wheel.  They lock in nicely for grinds too.  To me they feel less dense than Spitfire F4s and I’d assume are a little lighter - at least in my head.  I just wish they were more true to size -  the 56s are probably closer to a 55/54.

As far as I know ACE´s have the closest axle to axle wheelbase, followed by indy´s.
Have you changed your board? Steeper or longer nose and tails will make you pop later.

I went through a number of boards during this time of struggle, but all were basically the same shape, only the wheelbase might have been different. I never really checked the wheelbase when getting a deck, until now.

I got myself some indy mids, mellow twin tail 8.5 with 14" wheelbase board and switched to older/smaller wheels, so wish me luck.

Also, can someone recommend a board brand, or whatever boards that have really mellow kicks?
I know that for example FA/hockey are exactly the opposite of what Im looking for now, meaning they are really steep, especially their shovel nose. But I dont really know who makes shapes that are more on the mellow/flatter side.
The chocolate twin tail I got now looked pretty much the most mellow from what I could find, but thats about it

Returning to a somewhat normal setup after several months of experimenting with 7.5-7.75” setups and wheels 60mm and bigger as well as 50mm and smaller. I’m keeping the 7.5” in the quiver for the time being, shit’s fun but I’ve been finding myself missing this style of setup

Atlas 8.5” shop board

Two or three extra washers on the hangar side of each wheel
Shortys 1” hardware

quasi proto 8.5/31.75/14.25wb
venture 6.1 hollow w/cast plates
f4 conical full 56mm 97a (now 50)
swiss super 6
bronze
jessup

switching to forged plates next week. cast 6.1s have a shorter wheelbase but are 1.5mm taller, trading the 0.125 difference in wheelbase for a lower setup is a good deal
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

Ace 44s, not the AF1s
Bones Hard bushings with the bottom washer
NFG 52mm teardrops standard duro
Bones Reds
Two or three extra washers on the hangar side of each wheel
Shortys 1” hardware
Tactics grip cut shortways across the board with the middle grip line lined up with the board’s center of gravity

Any idea which woodshop they are using?

Not sure for this specific one but they were using PS Stix for some boards they did earlier this year, they were using BBS at one point as well

Op, you ok man? Being real here, you doin alright?

limosine 8.5
indy 159 std
spitfire 60mm classic f4 99d
mob grip

limosine deck feels pointy. really nice wood. feels similar to a dlx with the point noise and tail. will be a good go to deck

Agreed. Pointy has me intrigued.
Dunno if they have the 8” or less, for me, but this board and setup look real decent.
