8.75” trucks on a DLX 8.38”? Gotta try that ☺️

It's the setup Hewitt has been running for a while now. I'm so used to the "size up" setup now that if I cant see the axle nuts I feel like I'm on a hoverboard lol

8.38 full shape works pretty well on 8.75 trucks, believe it or not.

The DLX 8.38 is such a magical shape. Nice looking setup!
[close]

It's weird how well the 8.38" works for literally everything. Every so often I'll gravitate toward a bigger setup because I have nerve damage and partial numbness in my legs/feet and I'll convince myself that a bigger board gives me a larger margin of error for my feet to move around. Then after a few weeks/months I'll come to my senses and set up a DLX 8.38" on 8.75" trucks and realize how much better everything feels on it. I also find it bizarre that tail blocks feel way more natural to me on this shape than anything else I've skated (including shaped boards with a square tail).

Skating the same shaped cromer board right now on Ace AF1 55's and couldn't agree more, it feels like home. I have some 151's I might try out on it!

I use my ACE AF1 55 Hollows on 8.3”-8.5” Deluxe decks mainly and the wider wheelbase of those decks (14.375”-14.5”) seems to work great with the shorter wheelbase of the ACE’s ☺️

My friends do 5th Pocket Skateparks and when my wife and I bought our house this was one of the first things I did "improvement" wise. The asphalt driveway is a mess now, though... It's like skating a crusty street spot hahaha

i have size 13 feet and have been skating an 8.625. If i went down to 8.38, would it be too difficult of a transition?

I wear a size 11 - and I skated 7.75-8 boards for the better part of 10 years. 8.38" for general purpose and 9" for curbs tends to be my sweet spot.

Would feel weird at first but you could probably get used to it. I'm also size 13 and I skate 8.38-8.5. And recently set up an 8 inch board for flatground and messing around and it still works

Not as flat as DOA flat as fuck but definately flatter than any BBS roman numeral flat.

I hated the board at first cause it was not as flat as a DOA. I like it now...

I was thinking that as soon as I saw the first comment, before I saw your post.

Tried that combo but it still feels a little wide for me, compared to three or even four washers on the inside of each wheel, none on the outside on 149s on that size / shape board which makes me happy.

Sure is interesting to see those combinations and hear how they work for other people too.

Enjoi 8.25 Super Sap
Royal 149 IKP
Ricta Chromecore 52mm (Geoff Rowley model)
Bones Swiss
Bronze Hardware
Mob grip

Skated it for an hour, board feels good but, the wheels are really slippery.

Aside from Bronze aren't all of those brands that used to sponsor Jerry? Nice.

Had to give my first favourite brand as a kid a proper send off, too.

All 8.25
Royal 144s
Loophole 54s

Never thought I'd like a DSM board this much since I swore off Dwindle boards many years ago. I usually skate BBS (mainly because they're so readily available), but always need to switch it up every few boards.
Globes Opinion made me depressed for years.

DSM has surprisingly good boards.
But yeah, it’s wild to think that Enjoi is done. The whole team vibe was great. They were homies and dorks. Almost picked up that Louie or Jerry board too!

those r7 decks are super good, im really heavy on the flip tricks and i was surprised with how long it took for the tail to wear down. the last one i had lasted twice as long as any other manufacturer

When you guys set up a new deck, do you remove the little warning sticker on top, or do you griptape right over it? I always take it off because the thought of it being under my griptape bothers me for some reason.

100% has to go. In the grand scheme of things it probably makes 0 difference and is a placebo, but in my head I always felt like without the sticker the grip would adhere better. I used to quickly scrape down the top of the board with the razor to prevent Mob from peeling, but since I've been on Jessup Ultra I have not felt the need to do that.

I'll have to give jessup ultra a try - I love the feel of mob but it's perma peeling on my current board. I did set up a 9" popsicle today with Pepper grip and it seems pretty nice, went on real easy.

Back on the Baker 8.5 B2 again for my daily. Very similar to my personal goldilocks Polar 8.5 with a little more room on the tail for activities.

Baker Andrew Reynolds B2 8.5x32.25x14.38 (not 14.5 as listed)
Indy Forged Hollow 159
Spitfire Conical 54mm 99du
Bones Swiss
Static 7/8" stainless/allen
MOB Grip
NB#1010
[close]
Are you saying the regular polar 8.5 is similar to this or the polar p2? I find the p2 and this board to be very similar. I have both in rotation but definitely prefer the b2 as late.

Similar/exact dimensions to the regular Polar 8.5 popsicle, different tail of course. I haven't tried the P2 yet but would like to eventually, local shops haven't had any on stock when I was looking.

I stopped caring and don't remove the sticker anymore. Saves time, grip adhesive isn't affected, and I don't see the outline of the sticker.

I take it off. With some grip, the sticker outline sort of shows which is a mile annoyance when I see it.

I've tried Pepper and felt like my feet kept slipping around (much like standard Jessup). Ultra is close enough to Mob, but a little less course so I don't have to sand it down after putting it on and it does not cut my hands up nearly as much when I grab the board.

8.25 Clutch O shape (like FA)
Indy 144 ti w/ blues
Worn 52mm F4 classics

Totally different than the Baker/5.8 setup I was/am skating, but I had a great session on this. First time skating the Indys in awhile. They work well on this steep and short board.

Realizing that the setup doesn't really matter that much, and it's not that hard to switch with my limited bag of tricks.
