Is anyone consistently running the V8 with the shorter settings? If so, what boards or dimensions are working for you? The v8 setups I’m seeing are generally using the standard venture position.

Its working well for me on the palace 8.3 board thats like 32 long, super short kicks and 14.81 wheelbase lol. Perfect for v8s.

Anything else, I'm probably gona run them in normal position

That makes sense for that board. Wild dimensions.

I think the V8s are great for standard popsicles because they give you the option to also adjust just one truck. I'm currently running them on the famed 8.75/ 32.2/ 14.5 Black Label with just the rear truck brought in. That's absolutely magical, but unfortunately it'll be a one-off because it's super hard to get that deck where I'm at. Before this wildly satisfying fling I was practically in a monogamic relationship with the Ishod 8.5 twin (also 32.2/ 14.5) and tried the V8s on that, but with both trucks brought in I found that combination a little too unstable for the way I like to skate, so I'm agreeing with @Mbrimson88  in that regard. I've thought about just bringing one truck in to make it more manageable even though that'll defeat the purpose of the twin tail. I think I'll just try it, why not. For science the madness!

9.0/32.5/14.5wb
diy forged v8s

pulled only the front truck in
i liked the pop feel before changing anything
just wanted the nose to feel lighter/come up faster
and that it does

never been a fan of long tails
but the odd time im skating the board backwards
hasnt been an issue

I’m riding them on a bbs shop deck that had 14.5 wb 6.75 tail 7.25 nose, now tail is roughly 7”. Been working great. I’m not the greatest at reading a tape

I bring both trucks in on everything and I enjoy it.  I’m a fan of shorter wheelbases and Ventures, so these have been the answer to my prayers

I typically bring both in, but I shoot for boards with longer wheelbases and I’m an enjoyer of boards with longer kicks

they should make little venture stickers
that fit on the v of the trucks
a la this:

also, would it be crazy if…
v8s were standard on every truck?
i dont see why not

I'd like that, but its going to confuse the 99% of skaters out there that have never heard of wheelbase and just want to buy some trucks to bolt on

I run mine on a standard BBS blank 8.25 x 32 14.25wb but only set in the front truck and leave the back truck in standard position. I do this because I noice my pop was off went I set the back truck to V8 mode

My heresy- I think Bones Mediums make Ventures more fun.
[close]

Well, I've been doing this for years and stand by it. Fully unlocked the potential of ventures for me.
[close]

the Ace Low Hard bushings really make Ventures
turn too

I always contemplate doing this, but I really like the venture stock bearings (especially the purple ones). I even like them when they get blown out. Part of me thinks I could be missing out on even a better experience trying a different bushing in them, but I don't want to ruin what feels like a good thing.

Question for those of you who swapped them out: Did you try the stock bushings for a little before doing this or did you switch out the bushings right away?

I'm reading flat washer on top in here and that doesn't sound like bad idea either for ventures - may have to give that a try.

Stockies are great.
Only bushings I use other than stockies are the super cush greens on lows in summer time.

Rode stock bushings until they blew out (read fell in to ting little pieces) went through quite a few different other options and Settled on the ace low hard bushings. Ride very similar to the stock venture bushings and buying replacements is easy. (I do ride a flat to washer now too which seems to help make them last)

I'd keep rocking stock bushings if I hadn't worn through my last set on the 3-4 stock bushings I kept in rotation. Ace Low Hard are a nice change up but not a game changer, after breaking them in they felt really stable with zero rips even with stock Venture washers. I would have stuck to the stock ones if Venture kept making them but Ace are a close seconds.

Venture stock bushings are all I need, especially the purple ones. Stable, with enough turn for my taste. No need to go harder or softer.

With my last pair of cast 5.6 Hi's I literally never touched the kingpin nut. They sat flush before and after breaking the bushings in, and the feel remains pretty much perfect.

I’ve been running the ace low yards in mine and I love them. Se people claim venture stock don’t freeze, but I live in Wisconsin and they most certainly do. Love stocks though, will likely put the purples back in for summer. Love the feel with ace lows as I think it lowers the truck a half millimeter, venture forged Hi at 51mm

I just found bones med kept things centred enough but could give you a deeper carve easily if you wanted…..I’d say if you’re a light guy they might work.  I just find the feelings of stocks as mushy and maybe less responsive.

Could be just the top washer too..

I've ridden this numerous times, but for me, mellow kicks make it work.  I found them to be really good on the Hopps 8.25, which I believe is clutch.  Not 8.25, but the April 8.38 has a 14.38 wb, and that worked for me too.

Light blue too soft.  I gotta bring myself to pick up a wrench. Riding Shakira trucks again. I fucking zombied out and rolled out my lead toe side wheel. Shits like 2mm - 56 now.

Very disappointed but just had the first good session of the summer. Space walking like a mutha fucka so I tried to do the Castillo nose slider fakes manny shuv. But I gotta bondo the crack. I just can’t get over the fucker.

Bondo tomorrow

I think the light blues are great. The purps feel too stiff for me on quick transition stuff. The light blues seem to work all around.

Rode this for about a year on Generator 8.38x14.38, what do you want to know? I'm 6 foot 3 so my experience might not apply to normal height people but it was mostly pretty good and I often debate going back to it from Indy's. I will say you have to make sure it's not too steep in the press and some things take a fairly considerable adjustment.

Has anyone with the V8 trucks had any issues with the holes warping after doing a lot of nose/tail slides? I realised that might be an issue long term given how there isn’t a lot of material separating the holes etc.

Holes aren't warped, the baseplate is wearing like any normal venture. But the nuts on my hardware are flattening on the side because I'm sliding on them since my trucks are in v8 position lol.

The closest I would go with redrilling a deck is 3/8" but I know I have seen people redrill at 1/4" as well, which worked for them.

As for trucks, I have redrilled my baseplates at 1/4" each, some a little closer, almost through the metal between holes, but so far nothing has pushed through or had any other issues with them.

I think the truck metal would hold up way better than plywood boards in that regard, but maybe I don't skate half as hard as some others either, so I might not be the best example of how gear wears in general.

The Venture baseplates in the V8 are slightly more than 1/4" so people have said 5/16" and looking at those baseplates, there is plenty of metal between the two sets of holes, so I don't think anyone could really push the holes so hard that they break through.
