Loving this skate/ watch intersection. Here's my quiver- Seiko Samurai Save the Ocean, an old modded SKX, Tissot Visodate and a Hamilton Khaki.

Plus a sweet Seiko alarm clocked that I scored in a market in Jakarta.

nice little collection you've got going there. How does the samurai wear? It looks huge on paper but then so do some other seiko divers like the sbdc063, but on the wrist they are much more manageable.
Also, nice champagne khaki, is it the one with 80hrs power reserve? Champagne/ cream dials always look so good with army colored straps, good choice on the perlon too, is it from crown and buckle?

Also, my 62 mas reissue sbdc107 is continuing to blow me away! Just looks at this bad boy:

Got a marine master rubber strap delivered last night which gives it a more aggressive look too (check my insta stories for a sneak peak)

Thank you GISM for sharing your knowledge! Been frequenting this thread for a while..

I've been into drifting watches and I found this 70's Zenit which is like 25mm tops and the thickness is maybe 7mm. Like a really small watch to break up the proportions of your fit. I think it looks so cool. My question to you is what are the best options for a small/women's watch to buy if I'd get one from a respectable source.

sounds like you’re diving down a bit of rabbit hole there mate! I’m not well versed in sub 25mm watches, but vintage omegas and tudors are a gold mine especially in the category of women’s watches, a lot of bang for buck!
Also, I never used to like them but Cartier tanks have been growing on me a lot lately, must be getting old ...

Mate I love the Samurai. It wears small for a 42 because of the short lugs which works perfectly for me. I thought the dial might be a bit gimmicky but it looks sweet. I was intending to swap out the bracelet for a Nato but it's got such a nice weight and a really tight action.

The Khaki is the ETA2824-2 movement not the 80 hour movement. Thinking of moving it on actually, just a touch too big on the wrist with the long lugs.

Yo Pals - I'm looking for a new daily wearer and I'm a bit of a novice in the watch world. I just switched from a job with USPS and to a office job and before I would just wear cheap watches knowing they would get thrashed while working. I saw in an earlier post about the Casio Pro Tek 600 and I am looking for something like that or one of the nicer G-shocks. Just looking for some advice on pros/cons. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Shalom

sorry, it hasn't been getting any wrist time but this is the one I have:
shorturl.at/nowFY

personally I don't like most g-shocks that stray too far DW5600 DNA. The reason I got this one though is because it was blacked out, had solar ability and synchs to a radio tower every night at midnight for accuracy so it basically like having an atomic clock on your wrist. Can I also just add that the regular g-shock rubber bracelet does nothing for me, hence why I wanted this one with the combi bracelet. The bracelet is stylish, tough and super easy to adjust:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVMnhmbvDbY
I guess the downside to this model is the negative display and the price. The former isn't really a minus for me but yeah, it's not easy to read in depending on the light. The price is also way more than a regular g-shock but said solar charging abilities and auto-synching (depending on whether you live close enough to radio tower) made it worth it in my in my mind.

I'm not really a g-shocker though, so perhaps some other posters want to chime in? The thing that annoys me about most of them is the size to be honest, a lot of people I see wearing them just look like they have this huge plastic plate on their wrist. But I guess for some that's the appeal?
What specific models are you looking at if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks for the info gism - I'm looking more the pro trek line opposed to the shocks - like you mentioned they can get a bit bulky.
Here are a couple that are in consideration -
shorturl.at/doJQY
shorturl.at/buNST

Maybe you can help me with this question -
In regards to the dial material - the green version says mineral while the black model says glass - is glass just glass or is it another way to describe mineral or a sapphire(if that makes sense)?
Thanks

your short urls didn't seem to work for me. Again though, I'm not a digital watch specialist, I much prefer automatic watches in almost all situations. My g-shock is basically my gym watch and my measure-the-accuracy-of-my-mechanical-watches watch. Although I did take it on an o/s business trip once and the multiple timezone function was very useful.

As for the glass, it sounds like the sites listing them don't have a clue! if it's the same model but they are listing the materials differently, I'd double check/ cross reference the specs if in doubt.

Watch crystals are basically made using 3 different types of materials; sapphire, mineral or acrylic

Sapphire is the toughest/ most scratch resistant, but it can very glary depending on the light and/ or whether or not it has AR (anti-reflective coating). If you do get a scratch, you know you were playing very hard. Probs can't buff it out either! expensive to replace but crystal clear to look at.

Mineral is kind of a grey area and some companies like Seiko make their own idividual compounds (i.e. hardlex). Scratches easier than sapphire but I guess the benefit is that it's harder (?) and pretty cheap to replace?

Acrylic is an acquired taste because it tends to scratch fairly easily. The benefits are that you can polish/ buff it back to life quite easily, it's not glary like sapphire and it gives the dial some more "warmth" if that makes sense? It's also fairly shock/ crack resistant hence why it was used on a lot of old vintage divers and the original omega speedmatser that went to the moon. Doubt you'd see it on a digital watch, usually reserved for vintage pieces. Also easier to manipulate than sapphire hence why you see lots of funky domed acrylic dials whereas domed sapphire is only really a recent phenomenon.

Casio Oak might be a good option too if that’s the case...

GISM you live in Japan right? Have you ever come across a Seiko Spirit (SCVE005)? They were a Japan only model but I've always got my eye out in case one made it out. No luck so far...

I do, and while I'm aware of the spirit line, I've never seen that model!
Did a bit of digging around but couldn't seem to find much, not even on any of the auction sites over here...
Looks great! What are the dimensions?

40mm case, 18mm wire lugs. It also comes in a red dot model, but I prefer the blue as the red is a bit too 'rising sun' for me if you know what I mean.

hmmmm, seiko really need to chill on their sizes, would work better in 36-38 imho.
The spirit range is a bit of random one too though, not quite pressage? They should just put it in their regular lineup.
I actually thought it was a small seconds hand but it look like a 24hr dial. Still a bit of a random find, have you seen one in the flesh?

Never seen one in the flesh. You're right it's a bit of a meaningless complication, but I like it as a casual dress situation.

Bumps!

Sold my seamaster last night, wore it for a few months and made an easy $500 on it!
Contemplating the 36mm version now, another speedy reduced, an Oris big crown pointer in 36 or maybe a Tudor black bay 36 on the bracelet.

Anyone else made any purchases lately?

Not a purchase, but I ended up putting my Hamilton up for sale because I just wasn't feeling the long lugs on the 42mm. I mentioned in the ad that I'm only selling because I want to step down to the 38mm model. A bloke contacted me and said he's got the 38 and it's too small for him- ended up doing a straight swap through the post, sight unseen. Good vibes all round.

ha nice flip. Did you Buy and sell it locally?

No purchases for me. Summer been busy haven’t even changed a strap. This sail cloth strap needs a good washing every week due to summer sweat and lake and ocean

Yeah, eBay fees are too much these days!
I just sell on FB watch groups; always fiends out there looking for stuff, didn’t quite make $700 on it but I always make them pay in USD which works out well against the yen.
I actually ordered the 36mm version yesterday because I got such a good deal on one — freshly serviced/ polished with papers box etc for way under 2k which is unheard of.
Will see how it wears but it’s another easy one to bounce if need be. Don’t ask me when I’m going to start consolidating ....

got the 36.25mm seamaster, definitely wears small because of the bezel, also probably cause I owned the 41mm version first.
On my insta stories at the moment, will probably flip it... I'm honestly missing my speedster reduced, that thing was perfect!!!
