i don't know shit about guitars really, but this was a fun watch...i don't think i've ever seen him so talkative...
Really enjoyed this. Pretty cool when J purchased a guitar because The Wipers guitarist played same model. Love The Wipers! The Telecaster beautiful. I could have listened him talk for hours. I never really listened to Dinosaur Jr. Definitely interested in checking out their music. What albums do you recommend I start with?
hah, i got a kick out of his mentioning The Wipers there too--i haven't listened to them in a while, and i need to.
Dinosaur Jr....ok, the challenge is not to turn this into an essay--very dear to me. i love most everything from Dinosaur Jr, but for me it all goes back to
You're Living All Over Me and
Bug, the two first SST albums. a number of songs on those albums are inextricably tied to skating for me from earlier videos, and those are the albums i return to most often. also,
Green Mind is incredible and invaluable to me--G&S Footage starts with the song "The Wagon" and has been one of my favorites ever since. (i also have "The Wagon" 7" from Sub Pop on white vinyl which i think is the version of the song they used in that video).
there is also of course, "A Little Ethnic Song," which begins Memory Screen, and which Greg Hunt pays respect to at the beginning of Mind Field--i've always appreciated that. that song is actually from a cool compilation of guitarists called
Guitarroristshttps://www.discogs.com/release/374250-Various-Guitarroriststo this day, i think "A Little Ethnic Song" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever
edit: speaking of Memory Screen, i've been loving this performance of "The lung" recently
