Most of my skate sessions these days are solo after work. I've got an office right up the street from me with decent flatground in the parking lot and some curbs. They have these weird motion sensor cameras in the parking lot, the kind that start flashing red and blue lights and panning with your movement when you set them off. However, I usually go there in the evening when everyone who works there has cleared out for the day, so I've yet to be bothered by anyone while skating there.
About a month ago, I spent a couple nights rub bricking and saucing a 20 foot section of curb at the far end of the lot, away from the cameras. The curb still feels a tad bit chunky even after doctoring it up, but grinds pretty well with a fresh coat of wax and it's the perfect height and shape for me. Low enough to learn new slappy tricks on, but tall enough for it to still feel like a real slappy, you know? It's not rounded off on top, but doesn't have a sharp 90 degree edge either. For a spot I don't have to drive to, it works.
Anyway, my most recent session was last Friday at that spot. Long day at work, I decided to get a quick session in before the sun goes down. Got all warmed up and was feeling good. Wound up twisting my ankle not even attempting a trick, just went to retrieve my board and stepped off the curb awkwardly. Now I'm RICEing my shit and watching skate videos in the evening til I can skate again. After typing this all out it feels like a "dear diary" sort of post, but then again that's pretty much what this thread is for, so...
