Anyone noticing terrible quality with Indy trucks since their move to China?  Broken axles on hollows as well as kingpins?

The titanium axles have been problematic for years I broke one before the move and they still sometimes break. I asked Ben Degros and I know tons of people that ride Indy and none of us have any issues post China. I actually think the pivot cups are better and I've yet to bend an Indy axle but usually bend a Thunder or Venture axle at some point. I think the stock bushings also improved a bit and are more consistent as they break in.

[close]

Most Independent trucks have been made in China for at least a decade now, right?

I've been on Ace for the past few years, but when I skated Indy, the quality seemed as good as ever. I believe people in China can operate a forge.
[close]
I'm only speaking for the forged and hollow trucks, I switched to Thunders/ventures a while back. What made me switch aside from ideolgys was a few sets of trucks broke here and there right around the axels, hence this initial comment. Idk about the standards but the lighter ones seems to have some QC issues.

I didn't know and still don't really know, but it was said that any and every forged baseplate has been made in China since they first came out on the Stage 10 trucks (around 2010), with only the cast baseplates and all hangers being poured at Ermico and then whatever other places they went to for production for the various brands - Indy to China, Thunder and Venture to Mexico.

Talking time frame, Indy moved everything around 2018 as far as I know, with baseplates no longer carrying the USA from a bit before then, even though there were still a lot on the market / still are a few around, which I am always surprised to find.  Cross logo removed in 2020 as well, just to tie up the time line of various things, but also round covid shutdowns, quality across a lot of products became a little troubling, shall we say.  Once that was sorted out, things seemed to get back to normal again, but there could still be some of those products around in various places too.

Overall, as others said, I think I have seen fewer issues with Indy than I have with Thunder and Venture in the last five years, apart from Indy ti axles breaking, but generally all that sort of stuff is covered under their extensive warranty for both NHS and DLX products, from bent or broken axles and hollow kingpins stripping in the forged hollow variety.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

They went over seas about 15/16 iirc, I pretty much only ride forged hollows(215s are the exception) and haven’t had a problem with them so far. I normally ride them until they’re ground completely through the axle and break or they bend after the axle is over 3/4 of the way gone(axle not hanger) or I grind through the bushing yoke. Not one manufacturing problem in 10+ years and I go through a set of them in a year at most.
No problems here. Granted, I’m old so don’t really skate anything over a 4 stair anymore, but I’ll beat the hell out of curbs for hours.
Titanium’s I’ve heard nothing but bad things about breaking.

I have not although remember hearing some people complain right after the move. Also, there's fakes out there that aren't hard to find so depending on where you get your trucks, they might be knock offs which I assume are much worse than the real thing. Don't buy on Amazon!

It has a wide toebox, but the stitches forming the white part around the ankle hurt my ankle. I regret getting the mid-top.

I need some recommendations on a shoe that is forgiving to an old mans feet. Recently I tried some Chucks..feet hurt pretty bad after skating. So I tried the new Louie's today, and the soles of my feet feel like I was tortured all day. I know there will be some foot pain at my age after battling all day, but there has to be something out there to help.
You gotta get some NBs. You don’t even have to go as crazy as the 1010s or 808s since anything is gonna feel better than some Cons. The 600s would be a good shoe to try I think

My local has a sale on F4 like older models, not much to pick from. I'm between 52 classics and 54 lock in full. Neither would be my first choice. Not sure which ones to pick.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

I don't need anymore but how much are the 52mm classics going for? I managed to get loads of sets cheap last year as everyone is about wide wheels around here.

@moonordie Am I misremembering or didn't you try the lock-in fulls already and hated them? I might be tripping, but I thought you didn't like the wheel. Maybe it was just the look? Anyway, since you just posted that CF 53s are your max in regards to size I'd steer clear of the lock-in fulls if I were you. They're way bigger than even conical fulls.

(thanks for the shoe rack pic in the other thread btw. Looking good!)

Your memory serves you well.
I'm that stupid...
Probably I'll hate more 52 classics so I went for the least bad option. 47€ F4 are hard to resist.
I shouldn't touch those lock in full until like 2027 😅

working on building a small stable of deck options
i have found my one truck
and wheel size/shape are consistent-ish now

currently on a 9/32.5/14.5wb polar
a certified favorite that i will come back to
though it needs to be replaced sooner than later

the next choices in line are sized accordingly:
9/32.5/14.21wb
9.02/32.2/14.34wb

would you keep the same width and length,
but go much shorter on the wheelbase
or
slightly shorter on both the length and wheelbase?
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

I thought they were gonna sb the neon about to come out but doubt it, I'm hearing 10k pairs too

I think the 90 would be better for skating than the 95 though

Yeah for some reason I heard the neon 95s limited release this year, then a wider release next year.

Not sure on SB cw yet, a 90 prob is better yeah but not sure if I could skate either since not the most stable type of shoe imo.

I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this, but between stanning for Gring King Lockers & now Jonny Giger… ?
I’m afraid I’m going to have to revoke your Venture pass: if you want to remain “awake” so to speak, please reconsider your choices of late.
Barring a complete 180 (a 540 would also work & be WAAAY cooler,) I’m afraid I shall have no other option than pull your skreet creds.
Think it over; let’s not do anything reckless or rash now, eh? 😉

Anyone know a pant similar to the Volcom caliper? Like style wise? Multiple picks and tapered to towards the ankle? And do not shrink in the wash

https://www.volcom.com/collections/mens/products/caliper-work-pant-brindle

I bought 2 pair off volcom clearance last month. Hated them the first wear, because they were so stiff, but they broke in and were actually pretty comfy. Then I washed them both once and now I can wear them at all.
