Hey man, would you have any info on the stamp of this old Rasa Libre deck? Used to skate it growing up, picked up a NOS deck and curious about the stamp.

[close]

Looks like BBS with that bigger dimple. Weirdly I also acquired a circa early 2000s Rasa deck and messaged Matt. He confirmed it was BBS.

Also, did you guys get the DLXSF.COM sticker with the tre or the boneless?

Some people had often said they knew the timeline of the different stickers and could pinpoint the years on that alone.

I never got that deep into it, but it was a sad day when they stopped putting those DLX stickers in the board wrap too.

Just one of those things.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Mine did not come in the shrink wrap. A buddy sent it to me in a trade for some parts.

Bugger hey?!?

Awesome looking graphic though!

Here they are, as per listings on ebay, just in case you didn't know what I am talking about.  I recall seeing so many of these around behind skate shop counters, or stuck all over a back wall or bin or something.  Mine were never an easy giveaway or anything, but I had more than enough DLX boards back in the day and still have a number of them now.

Yeah there were more to list, but I am thinking I had seen a smaller woodshop not too long ago that had boards that looked like that, which another shop had been using.

Just can't recall, even after looking over the first page list though.

I guess contacting the shop directly and asking might help, but whoever answers the phone or message might not even know either.

Here’s a weird one. There is a company that has ads pop up on my social feed every now and then.
Slek skateboards.
They have composite tops and/ or bottoms for stiff or extra stiff decks. Also longboards. Anyway, they share an address with and are wholly part of Ping golf clubs. Made at a factory that makes Ping composites AND they pour their own wheels.

I would bet good money they are trash. What do they know about making a deck?

If anyone remembers these, that deck looks like a Foundation Pop Top deck. I think that’s what they were called? Those came out around 2004.

Surprised they listed wheelbase lengths. Honestly, shape looks solid if that’s an accurate photo.

They are through Quarter Distribution now, who bring in boards from China.

Some people say the boards are good, others say something else.

Anyone in Aus had any experience with PLATI decks? They're pretty cheap on sale but I can't find a single review online.  The decks I'm looking at say Resin construction and have a carbon fibre layer, and they say that they are produced by "one of the worlds top skateboard manufacturers" which leads me to believe they're probably from Dwindle, but they don't have any avenue to ask. The company makes their own bearings, trucks and wheels as well which is puzzling me with such little info on them.

Sounds like DSM / Dwindle but they're using a different type of carbon fiber layer than the usual Impact series, looks like the Fibertech decks from Folklore skateboards

Excel is one other woodshop in China where a lot of the composite / carbon boards come from, so most likely from there.  They also make a lot of big company boards too, so that stands to reason they could be getting everything from there as well, as Excel do make completes too, as per some I got for various brands with their company name and address on the shipping cartons.

Although some brands will not say exactly where, or don't like to give up secrets, it is a known thing where quite a lot of boards come from, so without 100% certainty on anything, I would be guessing this is where those brands get their boards from.

I had a look over that whole site and although things seem reasonable, they do also seem like a budget outfit, so I guess for the price, they are quite reasonable for their boards.

Can't even think how many people over the years have started their own skateboard brand, got boards, got other product made and everything, but then when no one really wants it, they tend to go on clearance and fizzle out, sometimes in a short period, other times lasting a little longer but more often than not, it is the same result.

Maybe get a deck or two, see how they go, then get more if you like them and let us know.

I would think the decks would be the best option anyway.  The bearings would probably work well enough, maybe the wheels too, or even the completes for a beginner to intermediate level skater, so give them a go.

Based in Melbourne, as per their site.

The mellow is their standard concave. They also off a steep concave called the B2. I don’t think there is a medium concave but I could be wrong.

Yeah their "OG Shape" mellow concave is actually more a regular concave, not quite as mellow as some, but even then, because boards are pressed in lots of four, you can still get significant variations with half a dozen of the same size, shape, graphic, etc.

If you like numbers, BBS mellow concave is around 23 degrees on the nose, 22 degrees on the tail.  The steeper BBS boards can easily get up to 25 nose and 24 tail, with some of the actually more mellow boards being around 21 nose and 20 tail.

That is all within the same run of the same boards, when I got a whole lot of them a while back.

Not to say that taking a digital angle finder in to the skate shop is a fix for you, but checking boards even just by lining them up against each other, or even better, actually standing on them, there can be some differences I notice right away.

Set up an Opera Pop Slick and had first session on it today.

First time skating an R7 board since 2020.

Very hyped on it so far. Board feels really good and the slick aspect is SO goddamn fun! I haven't wanted to setup board rails yet, but I skate a double sider curb often.

Slides so good. My first time on a slick ever.

Have been skating a PS Stix board that has super thick paint. White base layer, blue, then sparkly clear coat, then graphic pressed over all that. Makes slides feel soft and if you are a bit toeside on forward slides, or heelside on backwards slides, you'll stick.

The slick is so hard in comparison, and helps you correct weight before sticking. Only complaint is it has a minimal graphic that is textured over top of/a part of the slick and those sections don't slide as well.

Does the slick feel heavier than a normal board with the same dimensions?

Really like Operas board dimensions, graphics and the resin 7 dsm wood is awesome and feels crispy like a new board for a long time.

A vote for R7 from here as well. Set up a Zero R7 8.38 some days ago -- a random purchase from a sale that has been sitting on ice for ages. Finally got a around to trying it, really liking the snappiness. Also digging the 14.25 wheelbase for a change, feels kinda agile and light, as I've been riding mostly 14.38 wb decks for a long ass time.
