I keep getting ads for this small wood shop. They have a deck builder that lets you pick the tail, middle and nose from several shapes to build your own.

It’s super interesting but needs to be polished.

My friend was saying to me that he got a Hardbody board and it felt sick as fuck, meanwhile he got a Sci Fi board and it felt like a Walmart board. Both apparently BBS Sticker. He is saying he thinks that some brands are getting better wood / different process at BBS. I was saying this must add quite a bit of cost if this is true. Thoughts? He sets up a new board pretty much every 3-4 weeks, he is fairly knowledgeable about woodshops etc. not just some rando

I wonder if it could be the difference between what appears to be generic BBS / Generator shapes and boards for Sci Fi, but some way more specific boards for other brands, in specific lay ups / colour stains, shapes, etc.

Most likely I am out of my depth here, but I recall a few people saying some of the more generic shapes for the smaller companies could be getting whatever is available or sitting around the Generator warehouse when they go to put the heat transfers on for their boards, compared to the very specific / bigger board brands getting the whole process done in BBS and then shipped directly to the brand location.

The other side could have just been an unfortunate situation, or that particular board had bad storage, travel / shop / distro issues which then caused it to not feel quite like a normal BBS board.

Seen a few like that, where everything seems like it would be ok, but for whatever reason the board that left the manufacturer in a quality state, didn't arrive at the end user in the same quality state.

I guess we might also need a full definition of a Walmart board - was it soggy?  Delam?  Flatter concave?

Too many questions going through my head right now, but there could also be too many options.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Pretty good and solid boards. I'd say they're in par with BBS
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

weird shapes. They have 4 8.25s: 1 is just the TJ Rogers Mafia deck with a 13.8 WB, another has a 14.2 but fucking tiny kicks and Mafia uses it randomly, then there is the normal 8.25 which is like a mellower Baker but again fairly short nose compared, then there is the steeper, more square shape which is actually not all that steep. The 8.3 Mafia I saw had a slightly longer tail than nose as did the 8.5. All of the Mafia and Sour I've seen are super mellow, but a few Roger use the steeper molds and its sometimes hard to know from online dims unless they specify.

Are there any woodshops that do dipped blanks? The only place I know of is Pennswood, and those Moose blanks are certified sucky.

I know Baltimore Board Brewery has/had dipped blanks, however not sure who the woodshop was for those. Perhaps give them a shout https://charmcity.tv/custom-decks

@MOE SYZLAK

if you don't need a graphic, you could just get a paint sprayer, hang the deck on a fish line and do it yourself

they will be for the shop so a graphic is a necessity. looks like Clutch also offers them if anyone was curious.

I think I was waiting for a reply but didn't see one earlier, if they are still sharing or only using one woodshop now.

Also added Baltimore Board Brewery to the list under South Central, because they should get a mention somewhere in the main list.

Seems like they are doing good things there locally and for USA customers - heat transfers there with quick turnaround definitely seems like a winner, from looking at their web site info.

Thanks anyone / everyone for the info and help.  Sometimes I need a little bump, even if I do see things and wait to confirm.

* I am also trying now to add the year after everything, just so it is easier to see, given some brands may be on the same woodshop for ever, but others might have a change and I might not know, eg:

Hardbody* 2025   ……….   ……….   BBS
Hardbody*   ……….   ……….   Popmaster
Hardbody*   ……….   ……….   PS Stix

Just got a toy machine Leo Romero deck from the horror series in USA and it’s BBS (black sticker, dimple) for anybody keeping track.  Ordered it wanting to try a ps stix made board but I’ll be happy on bbs

Another one I had never heard of before, but from looking them up, all the info is there, which is really cool to see board specs and other info on their site.

It is a funny one, as I seem to recall seeing ATM heat transfers being put on a number of boards in various countries under different arrangements, so I can't say for sure, although that distro being in California might be a bit more "stable" than say someone in EU or where ever else.

The fact that that particular graphic is on sale also makes me wonder, as they have them in all sizes and I could add a lot to the cart without coming up short on any, not that I can rely on actual stock numbers though.

I shouldn't assume anything, but I would imagine that they have a whole lot of blanks, maybe they are BBS / Generator boards that they print whatever graphic on as needed for orders, compared to doing up a lot of boards and then having stacks of said graphics sitting there gathering dust.

Anyone with a small warehouse and a heat transfer machine can make a much better go of business this way.

I see Permanent Vacation is also under this distribution company, which is also listed as BBS.

Failing actually calling or messaging them, or just ordering and hoping, I don't see any other way to confirm, as I can't really see a lot of board pics around, but their Instagram has stains that I would associate more with BBS than with Clutch.

I was window shopping skate mafia decks on skatewarehouse and they all have a made in the USA thing wrote under the thumbnail. Looking at the wb its listed at  14.2  so is it safe to say they are pressed at HLC in Houston?
