I super appreciate you guys, taking the time to talk about skateboards with me.

I've used 8.5" to 9" axles. All can work. Depending what you want to do. With the wheel wells I plan to use Ace Classic 55s as a 9" axle lines the wheels up better with the wells. I personally prefer Ace due to the relatively long wheelbase.
Indy stage 4s can feel really nice on it also. 151s.
I’ll take your word as law in this matter.
Been following this thread for about two years almost. But due to some bad/good luck I haven’t gotten on the huffer yet.
Would an 1/8” riser fuck with the magical proportions? Will it be needed for 56mm on af1s?
Do you happenstance to know what kind of truck/wheel combo Cardiel used/uses on these?
The aces shortening the wb compared to an Indy was hardly an 1/8”, right?
No idea what Cardiei used/ uses on his, unfortunately. I think CK one used Thunder 151s or even 149s. But he seems to be back on popsicles now.
I'd say you might get away with no risers on 56mm and AF1s. Might also depend on the wheel width/ shape and also what size trucks. I peronallywouldn't as I'm 200lbs, skate sloppy and like pretty loose trucks (even though I use Ace hard bushings). I need to go down to 54s to take off the risers.
As for your last question, it depends on stage 11s or 4s. I think I measured the stage 4s as having an even shorter effective wheelbase than Ace. Stage 4s will also give you a height that might not require risers... heavy trucks though...
perhaps the mysto rumored new geo Thunders will be the Huffer Goldilocks trucks.... ?
I won’t hold my breath for new thunders, as they’ve been teasing them for quite some time.
Like Powell, has been teasing new trucks and board shapes. All their testing and prototyping.
I’m sloppy and uncoordinated, even though I’m now 187 lbs. Was 292 when I started skating at 34. My ankles are still shit/weak, so I’m still going to be rocking harder duro bushings, with kooky combos and weird washers.
I’ll give you guys the low down when it’s there. It’s probably going to be stage 11 cast hollow 159 with 56mm, and then I’ll slap the 169s back on the ol’ orange eagle with some big ass wheels.
For me, huffer really comes alive when you don’t overbuild it. It’s obviously fun with big trucks and big wheels, but running 8.5-8.75 trucks and 53-55mm wheels is the perfect do it all set up. Perfect for parks or slappy sessions, but still versatile enough for street.
I’ll definitely keep that in mind, as that’s what I’m kind of going for.

Re Cardiel riding it, I don't recall any current era setups of his (that is anything past the mid 90s which tended to be under 8" popsicles for the most part / for any product info or seeing him in person when he was out here on tour before his accident) but the 1992-3 or so setup with him riding it was maybe about 166 Indy and micro wheels, which was common for the time.
I tried this setup on one Huffer and although it was fun, I ended up putting 60 mm cruiser type wheels on it, 1/8" risers and also ended up cutting wheel wells into it, just to allow for maximum turn on fairly loose trucks (soft bushings) but that doesn't really count as a regular rider. I have older 166s on it too, more so just because I had a lot of old trucks and they work well on cruisers for me.
Others I know have definitely used 56 and 58 mm normal wheels, a variety of trucks including Ace Af1 60s, Indy in various stages and widths, almost anything really, some with risers, some with wheel wells, most without either.
I think the main thing I would do is set one up with parts you have and check it / go from there. You can always cut wheel wells in or add risers later if you really need them, but I wouldn't usually start with them on there for normal wheels and normal trucks, unless that is how you ride all the time anyway.
Overall riding a Huffer is not a huge difference to riding an 8.75 to 9 or so wide popsicle, unless you are very specific with certain shapes, kicks or the like and I could do pretty much everything on it that I would usually do well enough - way better or easier than some of the other egg or similar shaped boards that I find the kicks, especially the tail way too short and pointy, so in that regard, the Huffer with the longish and nicely rounded tail is so good for me.
It is a big but fun board to have as an option, no matter what other size or shape boards you usually ride.
As always, thank you Mbrimson88 🙏
I appreciate your insights on these matters, and you taking the time to type all that out for me.
The tail on the huffer looks exactly like the one off the Orange eagle 9”, and that’s a big plus in my book.
I’ve tried other boards since and I think I’ll be set really nice on that 14.75” wb, as it isn’t too longboardy, but not too short for bowl.
I’ll get one and set it up, with what I have and go from there.
