Tried a Polarizer yesterday. Don't really get it. The guy explained that it's so you don't get the urge to do a kickturn and have to carve. Ok..

Cool story dude 👍

What would you say is the appeal, specifically over a kicktailed board?

I was expecting some kind of clear "benefit" or totally different experience from the design, sure maybe by compromising something else but still, yet failed to figure it out..

They are called "polarizers" for a reason. You are clearly on the side who "doesn't get it"--and there is nothing wrong with that.

This thing is rapid! Definitely the fastest I've ever gone on a skateboard. It's sick!

Excuse me, we were promised upside down bolts.

But also, welcome to the club!

Eh, I was gonna but then I figured I might as well get the vanilla experience first. Don't think I'll do it now - kinda sketchy with how bendy the board is. My friend was trying kickflips on it and I was like be careful! Old skool kickflips work amazingly tho haha.

I was watchin some polarizer vids last night and I think I gotta get those bones soft bushings.
https://youtu.be/E30pxIIm66E?si=7iZCBoRrWYPVrhU0

The bones soft bushings definitely helped me get my heated wheel trucks where I wanted them. Someone here clarified Neil actually runs all top bushings but I wasn’t about to buy two sets of bones to do that.

Riding a polarizer to me is the same thing as riding a krooked Beamer or different types of surfboards or bikes, it’s just a different way to enjoy something I like and maybe add a new challenge to it.

Of course Neil also made it trendy and is selling oldheads $200 banana boards and none of us look like him or Hewitt on one, but that’s alright

*edit* there’s definitely no benefit but that’s sort of the point. It makes mundane things sort of difficult and scary again which is fun

The appeal to me is that the most fundamental acts of skateboarding, riding and carving, are themselves challenging and very different than on a traditional board. I’ve been polarizing regularly for years now and still find myself humbled nearly every time I ride it.

Re: tricks, I flip my regular board all day, flatground flip tricks are my favorite aspect of skating, but I’ve never had the desire to do a flip trick on a polarizer, it’s just not what they’re for and, at least to me, it feels very clear the moment you step on one, just by design it demands to be ridden, not flipped.

Anyways, it’s just a skateboard, use it however you want, and maybe in your exploration you’ll find something new and exciting like Neil did and share it with us all.

Yes, the section pictured above makes for a good lil polarizer run. The pillar that the pro's skate is still there, ready to go, as is the skatepark. That whole place is one big fun zone

Its funny cuz the further into the park you go the more stuff there is to skate.

I used to blame Frank Hirata for how that skatepark turned out, only because he was at the planning meetings haha

Most definitely😇 I am not a very fashion forward man, straight sale rack on both accounts, haha. Funnily I remember a few sessions later wearing those same shoes with gray pants and thinking to myself that I never wanted to wear red shoes again.

Welp I read through pretty much every post in this thread and watched the when the grunion run and now I’m super excited to try to make my own polarizer. I got super lucky today and found an old 70s Continental skateboard at Goodwill that I’m going to use for its trucks. Gonna borrow my father in laws jigsaw and cut out a deck this weekend too. It’s going to be fun to experiment with bushings and stuff.

update: I bought those bones soft bushings... whats the deal? Do I need to work them in or something? where I would've carved b4 now the wheels just lift off the ground. They actually feel harder then the bushings the trucks came with. Makes me wonder why they're recomended... bcuz I'm thinkin of puttin the bones in my skateboard and the stock bushings back.

I tried the Bones soft bushings and they were okay. I prefer the stock bushings over them.  Try the stock bushings without the top washer and a flat bottom washer for increased flex.

Simon Bannerot takes a heated wheel polarizer over a backyard pool death box with an edger at 3:48. Not sure I can imagine anything gnarlier/more terrifying...

Considering a fiber rider deck is $120, $160 shipped for the complete is a steal. All the heated wheel components are great too, I’ve liked the sofa tone wheels a lot

Yea I really like the sofa tones as well, been doing a lot more wiggling at the park lately, warming up before pulling out the popsicle, there is a couple lil things to mess around on at the park I frequent, next pals vid I’ll prolly get a couple clips rolling around, wish I could find some more spots that are polarizer friendly, maybe I’ll find a chill winding ditch somewhere soon
