still can’t believe he’s gone. tate was one of my oldest friends and we kept in contact almost every day. nancy chin & dr prestige said it best, but he was seriously the best person to be around. he was always down to joke around and share knowledge. he was generous with all the product he kept stashed in his trunk, and supportive of his friends. i wish i could write more but this one hurts. gonna miss him.

made some slap themed things in honor of tate/lester

these are amazing <333 would gladly chip in on getting these made!!

I vote Shoes and Gear become Tate’s Corner.

PLEASE

seeing all the posts in this thread is definitely helping me and the homies during this time. this is why slap rules :’) he definitely touched hella people, locals, slap, his biking community, niketalk.

there will be a viewing soon, if any bay area pals wish to join and pay their respect, hit the pm and i’ll keep u updated.

sending love to you all.

rest in peace, bubblegum tate. <333

Gonna miss Loaf man.. He was always a cool funny dude. I met him as a young teen at Shoreview skatepark and from day one he never switched up. Always had gear in his trunk he would give away or sell for the low to all the locals. Never knew how or where he got the gear from but he always had something! Especially shoes haha. I almost forgot, Loaf had the cleanest highest kickflips I've ever seen in person.

Seems like he had a big impact on this site, he will truly be missed. RIP Loaf.

Fuck. Such a loss, in so many ways. Thanks for sharing to those who knew him personally. I didn't know him personally, but I did know him as a fixture on SLAP- as the mayor of Shoes & Gear and as our most prolific poster. For all the nonsense that goes on here, this site remains in existence thanks to those who want honestly to talk about skateboarding, day-in and day-out. They give this place meaning. That legwork is done by a select few, and Tate was one of them, possibly the heaviest lifter of all. Losing Tate is a hole that can't easily, or ever, be filled. We're all worse off. RIP, brother.

RIP Bubblegum Tate

Very similar to what others posted, Bubblegum was the first poster I remember seeing consistently when I first started lurking here like 15 years ago. Always on top of everything new, he added so much credibility to this forum. Condolences to anyone who knew him, he will definitely be missed by so many.

Anything I have to say is useless but I felt the need to say he will be sorely missed. Tell your friends you love them.

I’ll be going. Come through and pay your respects. Let’s also schedule a memorial skate session afterwards, if anyone else is interested.

Would any of you guys who were Tate's friends IRL be willing to organize a Slap memorial wreath for the service? I'd gladly chip in you're up for it.

damn, RIP.

hes been a staple of slap for as long as ive been here. if you asked me to name 5 slappers he would easily be one of them. didnt even realize until i saw this and the posts on instagram that i have interacted with him in real life too. sounds like he was a great friend to many.

not just saying it to sound nice, but he is a part of the reason we all still come to this board. he was a core part of the community, especially 10-15 years ago when it was smaller/less known. the guy loved skating and interacting with other skaters and sharing his passion.

condolences to all his friends both here and in real life.

If someone sets up a go fund me I’m sure we’ll fill it up. Hell, we’re sending 420 to a fire hydrant in LA. One of you guys just buy something fitting and we won’t leave you hanging…

Sorry Union sorry Doc. And J.

How about a wreath shaped like a skateboard?

I would love “GNAR” spelled out for Slap, but maybe tacky for the ceremony.

So I just googled florists in Colma and the top result for me is this place. Here are their custom pieces: https://www.colmaflowers.com/shop/sympathy/custom-tribute-pieces

A skate is a great idea, imho, and judging by the pieces on their website, could be somewhere in the $400-450 range. Alternatively,  "Tate" spelled out could also work and would cost about the same. The problem with these more intricate pieces is that they might not be finished on time, so just a nice traditional wreath with a ribbon that indicates that it's from  the Pals would also be nice, I think.

This place doesn't seem to have custom stuff on their website, but I'm posting it as an option just in case: https://www.paulsflowerscolma.com/all-sympathy-and-funeral

And yeah, a go fund me seems like a good idea. So yeah, let us know what you think.

I'd 100% chip in for a wreath and for some of those Tate designs turned into stickers

I’d chip in on wreath and definitely for those stickers . Least I could do for how much money that man saved me with his shoe reviews.

Taken from my a local nextdoor post. Wont let me post the pictures for some reason but heres the link to the post so you can see: https://nextdoor.com/p/XjZkrC_m9Jg3?utm_source=share&extras=MTU1MjgyNzQ%3D

"The Sheriff's Department, the Town of Woodside and the Fire Department were very helpful today supporting the cycling community's memorial ride to the spot where Lester was killed.  Lester was an enthusiastically exuberant rider and a well-liked member of PenVelo Cycling Club.  Clubs from all over the Bay Area came today to pay respect to Lester's death.  The Sheriff Deputies provided an escort from the Woodside Town Hall and were there to help make sure the everyone remained safe.  Lester's death was violent and sudden.  He was riding in the bike lane when he was hit from behind by a car that was being driven well in excess of the 50 MPH speed limit.  There are no skid marks which appears to be a good indication that the driver was not in control of the vehicle.  This is yet another example that a cyclist on a bike is no match for distracted, impaired or speeding drivers.  Safety on the road starts when we get behind the wheel of a car and we take upon ourselves the responsibility to drive legally and safely and respect all human life."
