DC Evan Smith S. First pair of DCs in like 15 years. Bought them cuz I've been so stoked on Evan. Put them in the shelve to wait for their turn. Wasn't initially very stoked on the fit.

Broke my leg a while back and had to figure out some shoes that I could get on my swollen foot and the Evan Smiths were the only ones I thought would work from my vast collection of used and unused shoes. And sure enough I got the shoe on my foot due to the wide fit and puffy tongue and no tongue centering straps. Foot isn't nearly as swollen anymore, but these became my instant favorite shoe cuz they helped me in a time of distress and I'm Even more stoked on Even now after all the crazy parts he's released lately.
:)

Plus, it really is a good looking shoe IMO.

How are these?
[close]

They're pretty comfortable.  I haven't got to skate em' yet because it's been frigid where I live.  One thing I noticed though was that the grip seems really slippery -- I've never had that issue with other Emericas I've owned (Romero, Reynolds, etc)..
[close]

grip seems to be an issue on these shoes due to the felt material on the sole! after a couple sessions it should be gone!
[close]

I bought a pair and was bummed out by the felt sprayed on the bottom. Budget brands do that as a way to pay lower import duties when shipping from China, Vietnam, etc. With that "felt" covering more than 50% of the bottom, it is considered a "house slipper" for international trade, and thus you pay less duty per unit. Makes sense for business, and that's probably how they released such a good shoe for such a low price.

That's how brands you find at Target or Walmart (cheapo Converse All-Stars and Airspeed) can sell shoes for $20... cheap materials, and cheaper import costs. Look at any of those shoes, you will find "felt" on the bottom.

But that felt rubs off pretty quick. It's essentially just spray-glued and flocked with a little fuzz. Grip should be fine after a session or two.
[close]

man ive tried looking in person in shops here in China and the US for this also tried googling images but never was able to see a photo or a physical example of this.

report back after you've skated these a little bit...been contemplating the highs for a minute now.

To each their own. I like them and that's all that matters to me really. What exactly makes you feel like you'd roll your ankle in these?

He's probably basing it on the photo as opposed to how you'd actually tie them when skating.

yep, i see all this laces mass on the middle of the foot, and the tiny tongue that doesn't make it to the lace hole...as you said, to each their own, maybe they look better in person

Alright. My foot is still swollen as fuck in that pic and the shoes are barely laced. This was actually the first time I could tie the laces on the left foot at all. Lacing is way way tighter on the right foot. It'll be months until I can skate again, possibly even more than 6 months, so currently I'm not too worried about how the shoes look like for skating. And they do look pretty much the same in person IMO, so you just probably don't like how they look.  :)

I got these about a week ago from a thrift store.

Can anyone tell me the colorway/any info on these? My Google skills seem to be lacking. By the way, it has a gum sole.

I've had lots of success with Fiebing's dye on suede. Rit always seems to rub off or wash off in the rain, no matter the shoe material. Unless I wax it once I'm happy with the color.

Here is the final product.
They are canvas so the dye took easily.
I applied it with a sponge brush.
let them set overnight and then rinsed them with warm water to get the excess off.
Haven't skated them yet so i don't know if the color will run, but the canvas on the shoes has a rubber layer under it so hopefully it wont.

Found these at Ross yesterday for 27 bucks. They're pretty comfy, they fit kinda narrow but I'm sure they'll break in after walking around in them for a few days.
EDIT: Fuck, the picture ain't showing up for some reason. But they're black and white cons sumners with a hint of yellow also.
