These are totally wish.com Koston 1's. The toe cap is nearly triangle shaped and comes pre-creased. It's hard to tell in this pic, but IRL top-down they look like a D3. I'll be honest I'm not a fan of kostons es shoes. Or es as a company since they bailed on their whole team and called it a hiatus but this is how I've always seen Koston 1s. Like some bogus court shoe with flaps stitched all over it.
Now problem here is there are obviously people who do love them and see them differently but the people at es making the shoes seem to have the same mindset as me (somebody who doesn't give a fuck)
To me the best Koston one remake will be the vulc one because your never going to get the og right so at least make something that works for the time it's released in.

That’s what I’m saying.   The accels were the tiniest shoe outside the Rowley 1.   Definitely one of the bulkier ones now with a stubby little toe


People can give nÜ-Axion all the shit they want, but they knocked the Guy re-issue out of the fucking park.   Fits/looks like a modern shoe with the merest of tweaks from the original.

When you lace them up completely the shoe strings cover it up. I was worried about it too, but it's not a thing if you use the top eyelets.

I bet even if you don't use the top eyelets it would only be readable if you really look at them? Keep in mind when you actually tie your shoes it "adds" a row of lace.

I'm really liking the shoe btw. Was taking impact well... But doesn't feel overly bulky to me.

I've never skated a good cup sole before, but these feel so much more "responsive" than the vulcs I've skated. Vulcs can kind of just mush/conform to the board rather than resist the board. These feel soft in terms of impact but hard in terms of staying rigid and controlling the board without absorbing/nullifying your actions.

Maybe that will go away after I skate them more, but I'm really liking these shoes so far.

From the side, they look pretty similar (minus the sole). It’s the top down view that has me bummed when I look down at them (and my crushed toes). The OG’s were more foot-shaped. I still have a pair of eS Muska’s that look great from the top.

In that third pic you can see a good comparison of the weird traffic cone shape of these. The re-issues are way wider by the heel and narrower by the toes.

Here is a pic of the Koston1 that Lakai reissued around 2010 or so.

I had a couple pairs of these and they were fantastic. I started having issues with Lakai's quality around the time of Mike Mo's shoe, then they all started falling apart after a 2-3 wears.

So glad I checked this thread before noticing the first shop in my country that had got those 197 abominations, 99€ saved

I think a lot of things contribute to the difference in shape from the OG Koston 1 to this new 197… one of them is that most likely they are using a different last for this re-issue. Since they are using the tooling (outsole + midsole) of the Quattro they need to stick to the same last used on that shoe (so the upper fits the midsole) and that can change quite a lot the general shape. Also the wider collar shape might be due to the foam used of the original being softer… I’ve noticed that vintage shoes use softer foams than current footwear. A stiffer foam in such a puffy collar will push the collar open, making the top of the eyestay wider and you get that “V” shape down the laces, compared to a more parallel “| |”shape from the OG. I think that’s what made the 197 have that “cone” shape.

With all those things considered, and my fair share of experience in this topic I think they did a decent job. It would never be perfect from the get go.
But I really wish they went the extra length and made it with the OG tooling… so close yet so far.
