Ace bushings are good, in fact. I even use Ace bushings in non-Ace trucks sometimes.

Makes me wonder: classic or AF1 bushings and in which trucks?
I’ve used both classic and AF1 low bushings in Indys, it’s a big improvement over the stock orange bushings

AF1 and Classics bushings are the same, no?

At least the aftermarket ones aren't indicated by truck model, they're just Ace Standards/Mediums or Ace Hards.

I didn't bother to measure them, but yeah, they seem identical to me.

Yes both their aftermarket bushings are made to fit classic and AF1s. Lows however need their own stock bushing.

I like the classic bushings in my AF1s, wasn’t feeling the stock ones and didn’t like their aftermarket ones in either durometer that I tried either. I even tried medium and hard bones bushings.

Well it seems there's no difference between Classic and AF-1 bushings, so what you probably liked was some already broken-in bushings.

Could be placebo, but the classics that I put in weren’t broken in, and weren’t nearly as squishy/soft as the AF1 bushings. But that’s just like, my opinion, maaaaaan….

When the news came out that the release was delayed of the Ace IKPs, I got impatient, combining that with bad weather and boredom I decided to make a short instructional video on how to do a DIY IKP conversion on some AF-1s for anyone who might be interested in trying it.

Anyway, here it is.

Dude! So on point with every detail. Thanks and congrats.

Fair enough. It wouldn’t surprise me to find out that a skateboard manufacturer produced two sets of rubber bushings with different consistencies, despite attempting otherwise.

They’re the same height and durometer, but there are some slight differences. I’m pretty sure the profile angles of the top bushings are different and the AF1s have chamfered edges. The washers are also different, classics would get chewed up by the washers. It’s a small difference, but I do remember feeling like the AF1s didn’t turn as deep but also felt more stable.

This ad from the AF1 release confirms the change. “Improved suspension: refined bushings and washer shapes”

The solution to all Ace bushing madness (bet it Classics or AF1) is easy: just put on the aftermarket hards.

I'm 142 lbs and find the stock bushing in both models too squirrely.

I like a controlled wiggle so I use the hard bottom bushing and the stock/softer top bushing. The bottom bushing offers stability and the soft top gives you a little of the surf that stock Ace is known for.

Yes, they are an upgrade from the OG Classic bushings but since then I think they also use them in Classics. The bushings that some with classics these days are certainly not the same as they once were.

I moved some Classic washer/bushings over to AF1 hollows, and that’s the move for me…

I think they think they are the rest in which to be fucked with.

When Independent says fuck the rest they are the rest in question, yet still exist as independent as the reference point. Independent centrist slogan still subjugates Ace trucks therefore damning themselves yet positioning themselves as the underdogs

Could have been a better slogan lol still love aces tho

nothing's been the since same

With the Ace axle being slightly larger than standard are there less instances of axles bending?
The reason I ask is I’ve got 3 semi new sets of trucks with slightly bent axles from the past 2 years ( one Venture and two Thunders).
If I bend the axle on this current set of Indys I may have to go with Ace next.

In theory... The larger axles also improve bearing performance, again in theory, as the bearings sit tighter with less wiggle.

The problem with Aces, is the shape of the hangers, beautiful as it is, can make the axle look bent. The only axle I have bent in the last 10 years was an AF1 66 and I've ridden Ace Classics, AF1s, Thunder and Indy... But it was one axle out of many and Ace are still my favorite trucks. I have not answered your question...

I've bent axles on all the trucks I've tried (venture, thunder, indy, ace) except ace af1s but I gave those away before I really wore them in. I also like to do a lot of slappys. one of those charge it to the game things. I'd imagine if you bend axles on all the trucks like me you will also deal with it on ace and indy.

I want to say I dealt with it less with indy for how long a pair would last me, but tough to say.

how bad do your guys axles bend? I've bent maybe 3 sets total in my life but I don't know if it ever had any major effect since I could still get the bearings and wheels on and off fine. sometimes when I'm switching gear and put hangers up against each other I swear there's always one side on one of the hangers that looks slightly bent compared to the other one. but then I chalk it up to my eyes probably playing tricks on me. I have mostly rode aces since '14 so the classics were the only trucks I bent. well, then there were loose kingpins and broken pivot cavities from slappies. but they always sorted me out with a warranty. crazy how people are bending thunders and ventures and stuff. I honestly thought it was mostly ace with those issues. I guess that's how it goes since we want to afford trucks, the materials aren't changing anytime soon.

I've never bent them bad enough where I couldn't get the wheels off but enough to where you notice they dont look right looking down at them. you dont notice it skating but I always feel like its gonna make the wheels wear out weird so I'll usually just get new trucks when I notice it.

did it on a set of thunder 151s on the front truck, venture 5.8s on the front truck, multiple sets of indys, ace 44s. I can't remember if they all bent on the heel or toe side, but I think all in the same spot so it had to have been a combo of the spots I was skating and doing a lot of slappies.

I've also tried bending them back straight again and had no luck

I bent the axles on my Ace Classics. It was pretty noticeable and I was able to get Ace to send me some AF-1s as a warranty replacement. Those have been fine.

AFAIK, they're the only truck axles I've ever bent.

the early ace classics would bend easier, and they also looked bent from the jump. those ones looked the best tho, those early classics.
when did ace come out? 2007 or in there? i got the white ones, was hyped.
i’ve bent some indy’s, but that was in long ago times, early 2000s. would that be stage 9s? it’s kind of hard to fathom, but used to be so much shittier, in a lot of ways. i mean i loved them more back then, but whenever i find an old set i am amazed at how crude they seem. and they would get fucked up, myriad ways. axles slipped, every brand. kingpins breaking. bushings might have been better. casting would be off. baseplates broke (feather lights and stage 9 indy’s both notorious). and i was (and still am), not good. it wasn’t like i was blowing stuff up, thrashing. no. stuff would break on flatground.
the thicker af1 axles do seem faster but idk. i wanted af1s to work for me, they just seemed noticeably nicer than other trucks when they came out. i’m too dumb to figure out how to pop decently with them tho

Yea those early aces looked the best.

I had a pair of copper colored ones pre hanger refresh, pre af1.

They looked so good, but man I bent the shit outta them lol.

those copper ones looked dope.
i’ve kept a set of classic 33s, legendary (former?) poster gave to me, almost solely for the looks.
i was bending 33s, and it would have been worse on the 44s or 55s.
those early classics felt cool, because they were really different to what was available. i didn’t skate great on them, sadly i’m medium trucks guy. and with ace i lose any pop unless im skating really short wb’s.
i have never got on with the af1s, which sucks, as they look quality, seem well made. big struggle for me tho (what isn’t).
af1s and some softer wheel (dragons or the 93s i haven’t tried yet), really seem like my future, just being able to roll around and ollie up curbs is probably a better use of my time than trying to learn shit i couldn’t do under the best circumstances when i was athletic. the ace turn is the shit
