Here i am again with another unrequested, unengaged, outdated oldhead suggestion that's for sure not on netflix

I hear "abel ferrara" and i'm in. I've always liked Bad Lieutenant and King of New York but i recently stumbled across this one. It's basically a Deathwish but its made with the classic dank dripping wet abel ferrara "we'll edit this movie on the same stuff we normally edit pornos and snuff films on"-style.
The protagonist is zoe lund who is the opposite of ugly and also supposedly co-wrote this movie and the heroin scenes in Bad Lieutenant. She apparently loved heroin so much it was her religion, which killed her at age 37. She's a badddd mawfawka in this. Menikmati!

This movie rules.

You guys are the best! Any suggestions for less than heard of flix along these lines, or favorites in general? This should be a separate thread..to be continued??

I remember someone with big genital energy on here posted a Google link to a drive with so many unheard of movies. I wish Criterion had a streaming service...or leaked the address of wherever this is...

Criterion has a streaming service in the US called The Criterion Channel and it's pretty tight. They rotate stuff off and on and license some other movies that they haven't necessarily put out on some kind of disc but it all feels like a Criterion product still instead of just another dogpile of content. It's thematically programmed similar to what you'd get with an art house or cinematheque. I just ran the 80s Horror trailer and am looking forward to October. There's gonna be about 30 movies they have up for that series.

Here is my favorite, lesser known, grimy movie based in NY…

And, of course, if you haven’t seen Serpico add that to the list.

Hey…I found the full movie on-line:

Just watched the entire Dahmer damn it was pretty intense.

Finally made it through all episodes. Evan Peters and Richard Jenkins were amazing. The whole Glenda story was a bit drawn out after episode 6. I realize they wanted to focus on the victims and she was an important character; but in real life, she lived down the street and called the police a handful of times. The sandwich scene was just stupid. I had to go back and fact check a bunch of stuff, but most of the Dahmer stuff was legit. It's wild Balcerzak and Gabrish both got promotions and to this day double down they did nothing wrong.

Anyone else checking out Heartbreak High? I'm a few eps in and it's OK. It's a remake of a classic Aussie teen drama, like our version of Degrassi.

Derry Girls hailed just as funny as Father Ted on channel 4, it’s a wonderful show about teenagers (gals mainly) and their friends shenanigans in Northern Ireland during IRA’s peak.

I loved the show and characters, I did laugh mainly but there’s a few tear jerker moments but that I’m ok with crying in joy for them.

Happy to read your review because I was thinking I must just be an asshole. Unfortunately this has a few pet peeves for me shows of this genre have been doing over the last few years. Netflix in general but other companies too dramatization of actual events way too fucking long. This should of been five or six episodes not ten. It's like having to eat a whole loaf of bread when you make a sandwich. So much shit on the side that adds next to nothing. Not the worst case of this by far tho.
Feel like all the dialogue is just the characters telling the audience what to feel. Never feels like anyone's actually talking to each other.
I think the worse a real event is the harder it is to make an actual good show about it. 95% of any positive reviews aren't even based on the show it's just because of what's happened. It's not a doco it's just entertainment and as far as that goes wasn't that entertaining but was just ok.
SPOILER: and felt like it just turned into a Tarentino movie at the end.
Also kinda fukn weird to get that actor to play Dahmer. Yes he is very good but he's basically famous for being on that silly show that treats serial killers as light entertainment.
End of bored idiots review.

i'm two episodes into this new season and this is maybe my favorite season thus far...maybe. i had no idea that they were ending it with this season.

and i agree with your other post, it's really hilarious, yet the heavy/poignant points throughout the series--often when the "troubles" in Northern Ireland occurring around them inevitably interrupt their teenage lives--are beautiful and have had me in tears too. this was definitely an especially heavy scene--you know how bad things are because the father-in-law stops hassling the dad for a moment

the adults are all great characters too--especially Sister Michael, Colm...

the whole last season of Derry Girls is absolutely incredible, but the last episode especially is the most beautiful, genuinely moving thing i've seen in a long time

Hitting most of the main reasons I only fuck with series because of my GF. Usually just too much fluff and filler - making multiple seasons out of a movie  or 5-7 episodes worth of ideas.

Has anyone watched all of the walking dead? I kinda checked out after season 3 or something but saw bits up until last year. Felt like rewatching just season 1 and the zombies break into a run and pick up rocks to smash windows and shit. Is this ever explained or is it just early show hasn't ironed out all the kinks yet?
[close]

The show went through major creative reshuffles so there never weren’t not kinks- everyone failed in their own way, but season 1 was TWD at its best.   (Kinks like that also don’t quite make sense when you have source material but I’ve never compared the two)
[close]
I've been told the source material to show is a bit like the og X-Men movies where they liked the general idea of some characters and themes but basically just wrote their own stuff. (Altho the person that told me this is one of those guys that misses the point of almost every movie).
I guess they could also just explain the season 1 difference as no the zombies didn't run they were just walking very quickly
[close]

TWD show is pretty much exactly like the comics from what I remember.
[close]

Yeah I think they hit the same story beats more or less, but have to stretch out story lines past the breaking point because of the nature of tv budgets, etc
[close]
It's essentially remixed. Different characters die in the same way in the same scenario as another character in the comic or other times there will be a character death that's a lock from the comic but it will go down different. The main story beats are mostly identical. It's the difference between pen and ink vs logistics, contracts and schedules.

As far as the pilot goes, call it The Very Quickly Walking Dead.

SPOILER: funnily enough they brought back the door knob using, rock picking upping, climbing zombies in the latest episode. Went out of my way to watch the talking dead after and they basically just say oh yeah they did it in the first season so it's technically cannon but no explanation to why it hadn't happened again in 12 years. Guess that could be explained in a later episode but there's not many left apparently seems like a weird thing to (re-) introduce now

Watched a pretty cool French (I think) crime series called Black Butterflies.  If you’re into Italian giallo films, it’s a pretty good homage to the genre.

A few episodes into Tokyo Vice and really fuckin with it so far.

Hyped for season 2 of The White Lotus.

Pretty stoked on LOTR overall even tho the story did not go nearly as far as I was hoping especially considering it'll be 2 years until the next season

"The Watcher" on Netflix is really good. Based on a true story. Basically a family moves into a nice house in the suburbs and all of their neighbors are creepy or insane. It's a mystery/thriller.

agree, I enjoyed the architectural basis for the show and when it got to episode 5-6 and layed out the letter premise I thought that was a good piece of story telling

Decided to start watching The Handmaid's Tale. Ho-lee-shit. I'm not sure which documentary about the future of America is scarier, this or Idiocracy.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Prepare for that shit to totally fall apart after season one. Unless you like a star with a hero complex and episodes completely made up of shots of people walking across courtyards and person clenching their jaw straight down the camera lens

Not on Netflix but I am quite enjoying "Ten Year Old Tom" on CBC gem (on HBO max in US I think)

It essentially feels like a reworked version of "The Life and Times of Tim" which is one of my all-time favourite animated shows. Yes, the animation is dogshit but that's kind of the point and the dialogue is fucking hilarious.

^fuck yeah

Been really liking more basic sitcoms lately Avenue five and people of earth are cool sci fi ish ones. I'm not dying laughing but appreciate the effort and they have funny bits.
Also go back to inbetweeners, Mitchell and Webb look and peep show pretty much every year. Always great altho wish Mitchell and Webb show didn't have the laugh track
