Enjoying Platonic on Apple+.   It’s one of those pleasant, funny shows that isn’t trying to swing for the fences.   Also a very good Succession scene at the beginning of the 4th ep

I'm a little disappointed with the new season of I Think You Should Leave. I was really looking forward to it but most of the skits feel incomplete or lacking the same insane magic as the first 2 seasons. I'm only half way through but ep 3 has been my favourite so far. Season 2 really feels like the peak of the show now but maybe I'm just not in the mood for it right now and forcing it because I'm bored and can't sleep.

The silent show that gets heckled by frat guys made me laugh harder than a lot of things
[close]
Yeah that one was good. At times it does feel a little like they just redo these same 5 sketches but slightly different or the whole joke is he's doing his squint or yelling but that pig sketch had me dying. I appreciate they know to get the laugh and end the sketch which is something I wish many other sketch comedies would do better. Def gonna rewatch at least one more time (prob a few more) and it felt like the later eps were funnier than the first
[close]

Agreed, def a risk to do a show with a shared premise in each sketch (along the lines of not backing down ever) but I think they know their limit somewhat which is why it’s 6 eps of 15 minutes.    A minute extra would probably wear out it’s welcome for most
Rethinking my they just kinda redo the same sketches comment and it's probably a little harsh when I think about all the other sketch shows that literally do the same sketches every week. I guess the only difference is it's not packaged as specific characters like mad TVs stuart, fast shows "suit you sir", full frontals Milo Kerrigan, poita etc

Yea there are some that don't hit me too hard but overall I enjoyed the hell out of binging through them the last couple nights. Gonna rewatch and come back to list my favorites.  Really wish Tim Heidecker could be in more skits too

I'd really like to have seen more Patti Harrison too.
Season 3 is growing on me but if there's a season 4 I hope it has significantly less of the whole "being crazy and awkward in the corporate office" schtick. Across all seasons like 50% of the sketches take place in corporate offices. Branch out, man, there are millions of places where awkward shit can go down, explore the space.

i agree that next season they gotta switch it up. they need to try something other than a corporate office, house party, commercial, or game show. it's getting repetitive. not to say it's not funny, but they need some fresh ideas to make it not boring going forward

Anyone watching Ultimatum: Queer Love on Netflix?

It’s pretty entertaining.

Full Monty sequel series with the main cast returning and I think Danny Boyle helming is on FX/Hulu 6/14.   The movie is better than the pop culture takeaway of it.

I’m stoked to watch it.    I’ve been a fan of the F1 and the PGA ones, the tennis show is the only one that didn’t quite work

Yeah, this is really good.

Palace seems to sponsor EF, which is a team built around anti-doping, ironically

They rolled out a damn near perfect season until Josh Hartnett popped up. Jesus Christ his acting was so bad.

Anyone watching the new season of Always Sunny? Maybe I'm too fixated on how weird mac, dee and Dennis look but it seems to suck ass.  I still can't get past the fact that Dees character wears $500 sneakers every episode either

It’s on Hulu but has anyone watched Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars?  Utterly flawed program but I love the chaotic underdeveloped nature of the first season of a new show.

I thought the first two eps were high level Sunny and then the third one felt like an off episode. Later that week, I was laughing to myself at how gross the resolution was. Most of the off ones are better on rewatch and a few of them have become classics to me.

I was down for the show to end maybe 5 or 6 years ago when the cast started getting becoming unavailable but I think they have worked out a smooth schedule now and should just keep it going forever.

EDIT: I still have no idea what bit Mac was doing when he was talking to Chase Utley. What was that voice all about?

Not a movie or tv show, per se, but this was a good watch, esp with my man Willem Dafoe narrating.

I saw the director's cut at an art house and thought that movie was amazing. The bad rep is partially for the absolute hatchet job they made of the theatrical cut. Once Upon a Time in America levels of fuckery. I'm glad they finally made it available on video.

This is excellent.

Reminds me of another doc concerning an egocentric young filmmaker, also with Dafoe…

Quote
This documentary follows Troy Duffy, a brash, foul-mouthed bartender whose screenplay for an action film called "Boondock Saints" scores him a generous contract to write and direct the film for Harvey Weinstein at Miramax Studios. Duffy's band, the Brood, is also in the midst of signing a contract with Madonna's Maverick Records. Duffy's fiery manner is instrumental to his success, but when the deals go sour, no one seems safe from his explosive temper.

@Atiba Applebum I heard that the first episode came out swinging - what did you think?

Sidenote - so far reviews (vis youtube nerdz) have been negative for Secret Invasion but I'm gonna watch the first episode tonight

I’ve got one ep left.   I’m not sure yet what I think - I like the ideas/message, but not sure if I’m wild about the execution.  I felt the same for his feature, where I was very on board for the movie up until that final act.

I’ve been watching two at a time, I don’t remember ep 1 being that way, more establishing tone and premise and ep 2 is when it gets into things into topics I liked.   Don’t want to quite give away some things about the plot that go beyond him being 13 ft tall yet.

I’m def going to watch Secret Invasion as a binge or mini-binge.    Eps are too short to satisfy one at a time.   I ignore the general complaints about Marvel bc that’s just kinda the cool thing to do now.   I’ve only really been underwhelmed by Eternals bc it was a ripped off Watchmen’s structure for no discernible reason.   I can usually find something I like about the other ones…I think
