I thought that was the point of the whole survey thingamajig. I don’t think he’s selling stuff he doesn’t “endorse” or whatever. If the research hasn’t happened yet, then selling these blanks seems pretty wack...
I think these are the standard Generator blank shapes, I doubt he and Canada Skate Shop have hit the Minimum Order Quantity customize shapes and sizes.
yeah thinking more about it, it would make sense to ask around for support first in order to get an order of blanks without taking too much of a hit. then make a bigger order with custom shapes? but then... why wouldn’t BBS have a sample set just to send to clients? is it so the public gets to try them too and give feedback for the next run? i guess i’m just realizing i didnt fully understand this endeavor when i first read about it so i’m confused hahah
BBS does have a selection of boards you can try as samples. When our shop got them(10+ years ago) it averaged out to be $18/board with grip after shipping costs. They’ll tell you which companies use which shapes. I rode a Julien Stranger shape and that’s what we wound up going with in the long run. The skate industry looks after itself though, so that’s why not everyone can get boards from Generator. Generally you’ll need a business license, but then you’ll also have to be a well known shop or brand for them to do business with you. Then they also have order minimums; I think we had to order 200 or 250 of each heat transfer. Each run was always 200+, so if we only wanted 150 boards then we had to buy the remaining heat transfers
Any chance you knew the minimum order quantity if you wanted to do custom shapes? I doubt they would take up small batch orders of 10-boards with non-standard dimensions.
We ordered boards at a time when shaped boards weren’t a thing. Maybe every few seasons Anti Hero would have a shaped board, or you got a Krooked guest board, so things have probably changed quite a bit. Anyways there was a setup fee to make a custom mold/molds. It was pretty expensive and out of the price range for our shop(and maybe a lot of companies) to make their own mold. Then there was an added fee of maybe $2/board on the first few runs of boards before they would revert to the normal price. You could always get different pre-selected sizes in whatever shape you wanted, but you ordered them in multiples of 50
We started getting them in 2005 when shop boards had a reputation for being real shitty and riding a shop board was kind of looked down upon. I’m guessing not a lot of shops at the time were able to print their boards at Generator
