You know what wood they use? One of my local shops uses them for their decks and I just know I DONT like it.
why? I asked about wheelbase and length via IG in one of their decks today too.

The shapes are bad IMO, only had 2 and neither one was great. Might be Chinese.

I nabbed some flannels early on. They're thick and feel durable.

Also copped my god daughter some toddler tees.

Not really a sale but Ben Degros & Canada Skate Shop have started shipping their Generator blanks. They are selling 2 boards with grip with shipping to the US for $92, prior to border processing fees if any.

"Google “slap woodshop thread” to get a list of what manufacturers produce which brand’s decks. Look for Generator/BBS" hahah

edit: not really digging those width:wheelbase options :/

Yeah, they blew it with the dims, specifically the 8.125-8.5 - they made them for tall people. like they're Black Label boards; they're all too long.

I'd have done them like this, longer noses than tail (keeping them within a .5" of each other if possible, i.e., 6.5" tail/7" nose (but whatever the dims allowed).

8"x31.5"x14"WB
8.125x31.75"14.125"WB
8.25x31.875x14.2"WB
8.375x31.9x14.3WB

8.5x32x14.45WB

8.5x31.875x14.25"WB

8.75x32.125x14.5

9x33x14.75

From what I understand, these are the standard Generator blank dimensions.  Ben is going to skate them all, make suggestions, and the next go around will be dimensions that they want to go with.  I think he already mentioned that the 8.25 is too long.

I thought that was the point of the whole survey thingamajig. I don’t think he’s selling stuff he doesn’t “endorse” or whatever. If the research hasn’t happened yet, then selling these blanks seems pretty wack...

yeah thinking more about it, it would make sense to ask around for support first in order to get an order of blanks without taking too much of a hit. then make a bigger order with custom shapes? but then... why wouldn’t BBS have a sample set just to send to clients? is it so the public gets to try them too and give feedback for the next run? i guess i’m just realizing i didnt fully understand this endeavor when i first read about it so i’m confused hahah

Damn, some of those stains on the 8.5s are sick. Had one of these shapes a while back, great wood but hated the 14inch wheelbase. Though I was on Aces and now I'm on Ventures so likely it'll be quite different.

They really do beautiful work on those stains. I think it depends on the concave/mold you get. The standard concave decks feel lousy (to me) on Aces, but great with Ventures and the deep concave feel awesome with Aces. The difference is that the deep has slightly steeper kicks and no fingers of flat whereas the standard concave has around two fingers of flat and slightly mellower kicks. Their “matador” concave is mellower concave with medium kicks but there doesn’t feel like much fingers of flat on that one (harder to tell because the kicks curve rather than angle, so it’s had to see exactly where the kicks start)

Minimum order for regular blanks is 50 of their regular shapes, probably double (at least) if you want to do custom shapes

BBS does have a selection of boards you can try as samples. When our shop got them(10+ years ago) it averaged out to be $18/board with grip after shipping costs. They’ll tell you which companies use which shapes. I rode a Julien Stranger shape and that’s what we wound up going with in the long run. The skate industry looks after itself though, so that’s why not everyone can get boards from Generator. Generally you’ll need a business license, but then you’ll also have to be a well known shop or brand for them to do business with you. Then they also have order minimums; I think we had to order 200 or 250 of each heat transfer. Each run was always 200+, so if we only wanted 150 boards then we had to buy the remaining heat transfers

Any chance you knew the minimum order quantity if you wanted to do custom shapes? I doubt they would take up small batch orders of 10-boards with non-standard dimensions.

We ordered boards at a time when shaped boards weren’t a thing. Maybe every few seasons Anti Hero would have a shaped board, or you got a Krooked guest board, so things have probably changed quite a bit. Anyways there was a setup fee to make a custom mold/molds. It was pretty expensive and out of the price range for our shop(and maybe a lot of companies) to make their own mold. Then there was an added fee of maybe $2/board on the first few runs of boards before they would revert to the normal price. You could always get different pre-selected sizes in whatever shape you wanted, but you ordered them in multiples of 50

We started getting them in 2005 when shop boards had a reputation for being real shitty and riding a shop board was kind of looked down upon. I’m guessing not a lot of shops at the time were able to print their boards at Generator

Interesting how the industry is changing, for better or worse. The secret sauce of board companies is out and consumers have access to information to make informed decisions about where their boards are from.

I totally forgot that there was a time when pros would shame people in print magazines for riding shop boards.

looks like the popular opinion since they are $20 with a full size run
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

I thought that was the point of the whole survey thingamajig. I don’t think he’s selling stuff he doesn’t “endorse” or whatever. If the research hasn’t happened yet, then selling these blanks seems pretty wack...

I think these are the standard Generator blank shapes, I doubt he and Canada Skate Shop have hit the Minimum Order Quantity customize shapes and sizes.

yeah thinking more about it, it would make sense to ask around for support first in order to get an order of blanks without taking too much of a hit. then make a bigger order with custom shapes? but then... why wouldn’t BBS have a sample set just to send to clients? is it so the public gets to try them too and give feedback for the next run? i guess i’m just realizing i didnt fully understand this endeavor when i first read about it so i’m confused hahah
