I went from a 7.75 to a 9 in the past 2 weeks.
A friend of mine kept asking me to try his 9.5 at the park and when I finally did, I landed a kickflip and a tre flip first try. “hmm?” 🤔 I thought. “well, if I learned treflips in 1991 on a 9 inch board, then surely I could do no wrong getting that size now” ☝️😀 (I’m 41)
The beauty of doing flip tricks on a larger board is that the chance of over flipping is virtually none. It’s refreshing coming from a 7.75. I was always trying to master just the right amount of flick and shuv. Now I just pop and kick the shit out of it.
Last weekend my friends at the park were looking at me cross eyed and asking “why I’m riding a cruiser” and what not. Not sure if this big board phase is sort of a “rebirth” of my decades of skating or the beginning of the end. My money is on “rebirth” 🤞 but I’m in my 40s so only time will tell.
Here’s what I’m riding:
Chico Brenez 9’
Indy hollows 149 (this is the exact type and size Chico skates with this board)
OJ key frames 54mm
