Is the smaller wheel base on the v8s similar to thunders wheel base or indys wheel base or in between?
Before the V8s I had AF1s and I feel like their closer to that wheelbase
Yes that would be pretty much it.
Each side takes it in 1/4" (or more as per others comments) which is a lot when even a few mm count for a big difference.
That would make it the same as Ace Classics / even shorter than any other truck on the market as far as the double drilled position if both trucks are on that option, 1/2" all up, so from the longest to the shortest is pretty significant and can make some boards feel way too light, but others work way better.
Also depends on how much you are used to certain boards with certain trucks, but a few sessions on most boards of a longer wheelbase once both on the inner option and I got quite used to it, eg the DLX 8.38 with 14.5 wb skates well with either just the tail or both. I prefer just the tail, but others need them both in to feel more normal.
* Note: the usual turn on Ventures are still there, but it is also a lighter / quicker turn on a shorter wheelbase too, so apart from people who have almost zero turn on their trucks, it is not really an easy comparison to any other truck in overall performance. Venture turn the least of all the trucks, even though they can still turn enough if you set them up that way, but in part that is what some people really like about them too.
Wheelbase thread here:
https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=108580.0That is the total wheelbase difference, so cast Ventures at 3.125 come down .5 in total to 2.625 which is under the Ace 2.75 measurement if you like numbers. Some say cast Ventures are more like 3.25 so that would still be the same as Ace at 2.75 then.
This is not taking in to account forged baseplates, as the V8 are only on cast, although drilling in forged baseplates is pretty easy and does feel a little more in between when I skated a few boards with them on.
