I’ve always adored how Ventures looked but have never liked how much the extend wheelbases. I had 6.1s back in the day but got sick of having to skate very specific decks to make them work.
I would be moving from Aces and am curious to know if the V8s would sit in a similar (or shorter) spot. Does anyone have any on hand to measure for me before I go impulse buy some later today?
I wish I kept my 6.1 hangars because I don’t really feel like buying two pairs of trucks just so I can skate them on my huffer.
I have drilled in quite a few baseplates of whatever I could that would work, including cast and forged Ventures.
Yes they do bring things in nicely, making almost any longer wheelbase board way more fun on Ventures but they still have the Venture turn, even with as much modified truck options as I could manage (that is taller bottom bushing, low top), so keep that in mind with your considerations. I also have a few of the Venture low bushing options and although they do feel a bit too soft and squirrely for my liking, they really do make things turn a whole lot more, so for people who are used to running other trucks loose and rattling, they could work well enough, even tightened down to however you want them.
Overall it was not a big deal, but I almost got caught out a few times on simple things that I was used to turning out of with other trucks (Indy mainly) that just didn't come away on the 6.1 Ventures I had on an 8.75 board at the time.
Of the big four, going from one end to the other - Ace, Indy, Thunder then Venture - is more than a big jump, even with the drilled in baseplate options on DIY or V8 trucks, but it does work and it really lightens up the pop on any board compared to the original truck placement of Ventures, sometimes almost too much for me, but everything is relative and getting used to any option is not too hard with a little time and patience.
There are definitely more Venture trucks on many of my setups in the drilled in baseplate position now compared to before when I would have one or two just to see what Venture trucks felt like, so people could skate them and compare them to others.
