Blast skates decks worth it? They have some nice bigger shapes and I"m tempted to get one.
[close]

They’re Quarter Distribution, like local brand Brodega. It’s canadian maple, but MIC. First skate shop, has blanks to sell. They also have Tremendous trucks and Zupply wheels/grip. The ones I’ve stepped on have been fine. They feel like the dwindles I’ve sat foot on, albeit a little heavier. Stiff and resinous. Poppy and hard wearing.

If you want to test the waters you can buy

i used em for shop boards, they’re pretty good but their “medium” concave is rather flat, which i liked personally, but it could fuck with you if you prefer more pronounced shapes

I’ve only ridin spitfires last decade or so, kinda wanna switch it up out of curiosity, have any of yall ridden satori wheels recently? Never had a pair and kind of want to, just checked out their website and they sell boards and stuff now too?

Did you only skate the Formula Four wheels, or did you skate the original formula too?

Just the difference between the two options of formula from Spitfire is enough to make me want to stick with the Formula Four, more than any other wheel type, even though I still have a lot of the original formula wheels on boards and around the shop.  Original formula are way more likely to flat spot, more likely to wear quickly and take a while to wear in nicely, especially if they are brand new fresh white, compared to older yellowed / cured which hold up way better.

That said, some people will often enjoy any other wheels easily enough, even if others would say Spitfire or Bones are the top of the wheel pyramid and everything else is below them in terms of quality, performance and general feel of how they ride.

I know for some, Spitfire wheels are just getting too expensive, so they are trying other options because they have to, or they have a preference for a local brand or something else.  Sure they are all wheels, but the difference between some brands is so significant that some people go back to Spitfire (or Bones) and are happy not to change again.

As for Satori, I have two different versions of their wheels, but I don't know what the current versions are.  The ones I have, as Beach Chicken said, from Creative and somewhere else, are reasonable and ok, yeah they are wheels, but I don't go looking for the board I have them on at all, just to skate those wheels, if that is enough of an indication of preference.

That's my perspective anyway.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Thanks for all that! And I like f4 og classic 99du 52-54s. Sounds like I’ll probably just stick with them, though still tempted to buy something satori so might get the 78a lil mug wheels for a zip zinger/crusty spot type of set up

They used to be made by Creative. The 101 felt closest to a 99 Spit but less icy at first. Def weren't as fast feeling but still really nice. I liked em more than the Loopholes people on here were super into.

If they're Creative they will be fine but not remarkable, not as flatspot resistant and you'll definitely feel them on the crust. SML (if they're still around) were also Creative and while I love the team they just aren't as good as F4 or X-Formula.

What's the closest bushing to Bones Hardcore medium that doesn't click?

Do you use washers at all or not?

Reason I ask is because without washers, the plastic part of the bushings tend to click on the metal baseplate more often than not, or even the top one against the kingpin nut.

With washers and usually a little wax or something else on the Bones bushing plastic bits, they tend to stop clicking for the most part, when I have tried fixing setups for people who have that side to side click clack going on a whole lot.  It doesn't work all the time, but maybe different trucks, or even how tight people have them, which may or may not also help with being able to squeeze washers in there too, if they are tightened down some.

I know one guy says the flat washer on both top and bottom is his go to and he doesn't get clicking the way trucks without washers do.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

anyone switch to skating sweatpants full time?
my upper thighs rub and friction blows out my pants
abrasion resistant pants seem overkill for skating
but cotton and cotton poly blend sweats stay intact

maybe i just need bigger waisted pants?
if that fails…

Yea I've tried both the washers that come with them and the ones that came with the trucks, tight or loose hasn't made a difference. Haven't done the wax, seems like a temporary solution. It's not too bad or noticeable when you're moving but when still it's pretty annoying.

Yeah wax and other things do wear off after a bit, maybe more so depending on each setup, but something a little more permanent does work, although some people are not keen to add anything else into the mix.  If you find something like a sicky adhesive type of material equivalent to some of the things I have used that work a treat, but here in Australia we have Blu tack, or U tac or similar, reusable sticky putty - just a tiny small amount squashed in between things and I had no clicking for the life of a board I put it on, just to see if it made any difference.

I often put it under everything, between the regular bottom washer and baseplate anyway, just a tiny bit and it keeps things from making any noise or moving at all.

* Any which way, I had meant to say the click comes from the plastic top of the bushing binding on the other parts, so if it doesn't get stuck and then forcefully move, with a click sound, then it will easily slide that little bit side to side with less or no noise at all.  Preventing it from moving at all is the best thing, but doing things like putting tape round the kingpin just doesn't really work when I tried it.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

you are the skater4lyfe of pants
i have nothing helpful, ive got a dachshund shape

as far as skating in sweats: it’s been a looooong time, and it was probably something insane like a triple5soul/echo or some such thing thing, matching kit, from like a marshall’s in the early 2gs. yikes.
i know you know it CAN be done, but for me, it can really matter how i feel about something. a version of look good feel good. i’m old so im willing to cede ‘good’, for a version of ‘correct’ or really ‘acceptable’.
depends on how hard you skate/rip stuff up. what about some swishies? get the track pants.

Pretty sure Roger made a big deal of moving to BBS wood a few years ago, but things could have changed since then.

Watch out tho, Roger uses 3 shapes per size: S1 is short and tapered, S2 has normal kicks, still tapered, S3 is shovel/square and steeper.

i assumed FrenchSkater was in fact from france, so it's pretty unlikely, before roger moved to hlc in the us they had a distro deal in europe like sk8mafia or plan b where all their decks sold in europe were made here at hlc

Whatever happened to the Real Low Pros? I really dug those

I think with a lot of "different technology" in board manufacturing, they didn't quite sell as well as hoped so they dropped them, but I recall and still have a few, even Low Pro II was around for a bit, so I guess they upgraded but then eventually stopped making them.

There have been a number of other things too, even the new Easy Rider technology may or may not last - just a slightly different mold used in the press to make those boards, but who knows.

Things like Twin molds were thought to be a funny niche market at one point, but they seem like they are increasingly popular - it is the symmetrical mold to start with, then cutting the board shape to have symmetrical kicks, but the same mold can be used for everything else too, eg Easy Riders are on a symmetrical mold.

Who knows how long the new Basalt boards will be around as well.

Anyone got the dimensions on Limo's 9.0 decks? I believe they use the generic 9.0 shape off BBS but skatesamples doesn't do B2C anymore so I can't check the dimensions. Can't find them on Tactics / SWH.

Their own website says 9.0" x 33.25" 14.8" Wheelbase, so it is not the "Orange Eagle" (33"/15").
