This is gonna sound stupid as fuck, but I need to ask….

Do you guys tighten or loosen your trucks based on the trick you’re trying? I was doing some slappy crooks and I found them much easier to lock into when I loosened my trucks, but earlier today I was trying to switch 5050 a ledge (a trick in which I have very little control of) and it was so much harder to land without wheel biting or being squirrelly when trying to lock in with loose trucks.

i only tighten them up when i'm bombing a bigger hill, but that thing you're doing makes sense too. i started riding looser when i learned crooked grinds because it's easier to lock in.

Ordered a pair of 1/8 riser pads and got shock pads instead.. they’re the same size so I’m willing to say fuck it and deal with it but has anyone noticed any issues with noseslides or tailslides because of the rubber?

No way. Before the 3 ply shock pads was my go to. It will shape to your plates day one probably. Definitely ain't a gimmick too. I just can't get enough of the sound of wooden plates.
It's better than rails.

Deck is feeling kind of “dead”. No risers, I don’t leave it in my vehicle, no signs of cracks and nowhere near razor tail. I had a great session on it the other day and it was feeling nice and poppin’ fresh. Then yesterday it felt completely dull. What gives? Riding Thunder trucks and 99a wheels if that gives any insight.

Have you checked if your hardware is tight enough? And maybe the axle nuts are a bit too tight? Sometimes my board feels like that when the ground is really warm.

Let me guess, is a PS board that is older than 1 week?

Thanks for the advice. I usually have a little clickety clack to my wheels but for some reason one of them had tightened down ( or I forgot to back it off after rotating wheels ). One bearing was really squeaky too so after a drop of oil and proper adjustment we’re feeling lively again.

Edit: @moonordie nah. Antihero 8.5 short. Relevant point for P.S. enjoyers though. Was also waiting on a “nano-tubes” comment, lulz

Is Vans going to keep making the vulc Rowans?
[close]

My guess is no. Haven't seen a new colorway drop in a long while and the Rowan's are on sale at vans, and searching 'Rowan' only brings up the Rowan 2....even searching for Rowan Shoe (which is the tag for V1 only brings up the Rowan 2; you can only find the V1 by rummaging in the sale section).

Thanks for the reply. Looks like they just released a new colorway, so who knows? Fingers crossed, it’s one of my favorite shoes of the last few years, and I’m not digging the cupsole version

The only thing that comes to mind for me is 360 flips. I'm still learning them, but I find it significantly easier to get the right scoop and full rotation with tighter trucks.

if you land and get wheel bite that isnt because of the trucks, that is because you didnt land square enough
i would say tighten them up only a little bit so you feel stable on the board enough to do 3 flips but make sure you can still make the approach you need on a grind without having to tic tac around all over the place. id lean a little more on the stability side at first and the bushings will slowly wear down and become more turny over time.

Nah it's a normal thing. A thinner shoe let's your foot and ankle function more normally. If you look at weartested.com they have a bunch of shoes cut in half to show the construction and a ton of "supportive cupsoles" are basically the same thickness as vulc shoes anyway.

For me it feels like really thick cupsoles make my feet tired because of the lack of boardfeel. The lack of natural contact with the board is tiring as the feet are constantly trying to find their place in the mix to no avail.

I guess it's comparable to a bed that's too soft. Your back's gonna hurt in the morning.

Be it as it may, I do prefer thinner cupsoles over vulcs.

pretty sure folks into music/musicgear know what equipboard is. essentially it’s a site where folks list musicians/bands equipment. including photos/links of em using it.

https://equipboard.com/

idk the idea of having a similar site dedicated to pro skaters would be cool. just gonna throw this idea out there

Meh that much weight continually on the shocks prolly isn’t that good, or if you hit a pothole hard enough that shit would suck, yea I’d find somewhere to drop that but I get lugging around shit to skate, I got like five cinderblocks in the subie waiting to grab a couple more and make a ledge somewhere but I gotta find a spot with good enough ground close to the house

Back when sure but. I always always always prefer the flick of cups. Today I'm like fuckin fucked cuz I'm addicted to the red black and white run of 808s.

But I'm about to Ipath cats like 3 pair if I had a link rn

I gotta send all stuff to my mom's haus and it sucks. My heart is heavy for me and the 5 others who are getting their packages kicked in by the PSYCHO on the first floor.

I'm gonna end up in jail. This place is the best place I've ever lived too. I love my other neighbors. We're basically hiding from her and she's full blood lust. It's so sad. My heart my heart

Can you put that parking curb on the back seats of your car instead? Too much weight on the trunk could maybe not be good. Maybe nothing would happen. But it is better to be safe than sorry ya know.

I also went from skating new balances with midsoles to vulc shoes and my feet feel way better. I had crazy Achilles pain and what seemed like early plantar fasciitis and it all went away went I switched to vulcs. It’s gotta be a body type thing

I've been skating a 8.25 deck with 8.5 axle trucks for the longest time. I recently started skating 8.5 decks and I'm liking it. Would moving up to 8.75 axle Independents make a noticable difference for better or worse?

id just skate your current trucks if i were you, you being used to them is likely a part of why you like your current setup. Unless you really want more stability or grind space

For the most part, it will be the same upgrade, but some people find that the extra width and weight can be a little too much to deal with, compared to a smaller setup, even with the same offset of wheels as their other boards.

I am more of the thinking that 149s work well on 8.38 and 8.5 with extra washers on the inside, then 159s on 8.6 or 8.75 boards, again adjusting washers to suit.

Some people won't go over 149s even on bigger boards as they just can't handle the extra truck width, but others swear by the 159s on 8.5 type setup, only one washer on the inside, for one guy I know who likes that.

Washers can make a big enough difference, that you may not need to go up truck sizes, but even just to sit the board grip side down, loosen wheel nuts almost all the way off and push the wheels right out to have a look at it and see if it looks too wide, just as a reference.  Don't skate it like that, just look at it.  That can help to see if that is what you want.

Yesterday at the shop, someone said his trucks were too narrow - having one washer on the inside, one on the outside, as per how whoever had set it up for him.  Then when I did a little changing up to add some more for a total of three washers on the inside, none outside, they were wide enough so he didn't want / need wider trucks after all.

Hope that helps.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

How much magic is too much on a magic carpet set up? Thinking of putting my 5.6 (8.25) trucks on a 9” board. I had 5.0s (7.62) on my current 8.25” board for a while and was fine with it. Can someone talk me out of this?
