How much magic is too much on a magic carpet set up? Thinking of putting my 5.6 (8.25) trucks on a 9” board. I had 5.0s (7.62) on my current 8.25” board for a while and was fine with it. Can someone talk me out of this?

Ellington skated a similar ratio and it looked great to me.

Looks awful to me but who cares.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

What kinda stuff do you skate? I love an exaggerated magic carpet (I'd even do the 5.0s on the 9) and find it only really sucks on big transition, bombing hills/ shit where you go really fast and carve etc. or if you're skating a really waxy ledge you have to be a bit more careful to make sure you hit axle

Dammit. I like to carve hills and skate waxy curbs. Im old and slow and curbs are low so maybe it’s ok. Any issues with slides on exaggerated carpets? Thx for the input!

I never had any issues with curbs and I'm not that great at slides so it's about the same for me (I'm only really doing noseslides on ledges and board/lip on flatbars).
With the wax thing for me it's just happened a few times where I've gotten lazy trying to 5050,5-0 and landed rolling on-top on the ledge instead of grinding and with a lot of wax you can just go straight to your ass pretty easy. With a slappy or ollie onto the curb it's prob fine because it's lower

I've been skating a 8.25 deck with 8.5 axle trucks for the longest time. I recently started skating 8.5 decks and I'm liking it. Would moving up to 8.75 axle Independents make a noticable difference for better or worse?

I just went from 8.375 trucks to 8.625 on a 8.5 board and I feel like I've found my happy place although I initially thought it looked ugly and weird so I'd say try things out if you can either way. You'll never know what the outcome will be.

That makes tons of sense. Keeping it in mind for real because my main cause of pain is getting lazy and ending up doing everything wrong.

while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

I like this one:
Lay flat on your back.
Cross your right foot to the outside your left knee.
Keeping your shoulders to the ground as much as possible, use your left arm (hand/elbow depending on your flexibility) to push against the outside of your right knee and you should feel the stretch there.

Might wanna hollow. Be no big thang. I cannot ride indys bigger than 144. Unless it's the fancy pants reissue. Then you gotta go big.

In the only truck that matters in a 5.8 sometimes a 5.6 it's obvious.

There's a limit to my fliptruck power these days. If go bigger I'm fully heck riding full time. I can live with that.

Also think about the truck on the block. 6.1s fuckin Lego lock Boston sized curbs that are two sided. So it's like a pick a truck situation.

I don't gotta be that lit. What are we filming for situation. If we was serious trying to make some shit I'm going back to 8"s with 54 Bunt wheels some fuckin 5.2s and some dry af bearings so we Manny nicely.

I don't pop no styles I'm strickly roots... I'd fuckin heavy dub remix that shit. Do some long tre flips block to block.

Has Ace fixed the loosey-goosey axle nut problem on their AF1 trucks?

Might be picking up a pair and I feel like I should maybe toss the supposedly gimmicky "rethreading" axle nuts that come with the trucks as I feel like they are just going to prematurely eat away at axle thread material, hence causing the problems I keep reading everyone having with their axle nuts developing free will.

Or are the magical rethreading nuts and/or axle all good and working now?

Have a proper tap and die at home if I need it, this feels unnecessary and problematic.

Did anyone get down to actual root cause of that problem? Is it a problem no more?

It is the nyloc on them, that seemed to be less than other nuts, hence the nuts coming loose more often than not, or more quickly than other nuts.

People often just swap out the nuts when needed, more than anything, but if you are worried, just get fresh normal nuts right from go and keep those little red nyloc rethreader nuts in a safe place if you ever need to use them for anything else, or even rethreading your axles.

Not talking about the extra red rethreader nut either, that works to a point, but the Ace nuts have red nyloc inside their nuts, not clear or white as per other nuts.

I could see that getting very confusing, but you know what I am talking about if you get a set and check them out anyway.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I do this stretching sequence before each sesh. Has made a huge difference.

You can also do exercises to strengthen the weak hip and fix imbalances:

I keep knocking my kingpins loose in the baseplates. The pins get all wiggly-wiggly, then the pivot cups start to shred apart and my hangers slop around making my board feel like shit. Three loose kingpins over two months. They're standard cast baseplates, with non-inverted kingpins.

I feel I'd be better off with forged. But the truck manufacturer I like doesn't make forged baseplates. So I'd have to switch trucks, which ugh, I really don't want to do. But this isn't sustainable. Has anyone else had this issue? Any solutions? Thanks!

Disregard all of this. I threw on a set of Venture Hi's 5.8, rattle loose like @Unkle Fleak preaches. I had a great session despite my annoying scoliosis pain.

Has anyone tried any of the new Deathwish shapes with 14 WBs? I don't recall ever seeing a Baker or Deathwish with anything under 14.25. I've always really liked their flat shapes and wished they'd put out shorter WBs.

The Dickson one is is 8.25 x 31.67 x 14 with mellow concave according the the Deathwish site. Tactics has the nose at 7.0 and the tail at 6.56. Those sound like pretty ideal specs to me.

I'm not crazy about the graphic but it wouldn't stop me from riding it.

After messing around just riding my board fakie, fakie manuals, nollies, etc. I've come to realize I prefer steeps kicks.  With that I am looking for a deck with steep kicks (both nose and tail) not just steep concave. I'd preference steep kicks and medium concave or steep kicks and steep concave. My current nose is around 22 degrees, 7" long, and narrow which has felt really nice.  I know Zero, Deathwish, Creature, FA, and Hockey all tend to come up. I am wondering how steep their kicks exactly are? Like are they 20+ or 22+ degrees?

Anyone else buy their griptape by the roll? I usually get regular jessup but wanna try jessup ultra. Only place I can find rolls are Amazon. Did a google search but figured I’d ask here. Anyone know where to find a roll of jessup ultra that isn’t Amazon? Would hopefully love to find a shop/something at least skate related to buy it from

Measuring most BBS boards, they are more often around 24 nose and 23 tails, some more and very few less, so being someone who likes mellow concave and angle of kicks, I often find it a little harder to get boards I like, but I always have a good stash ready to go.

As to concave and kicks, given there are four to a press, more often than not most boards are going to be medium to steep for what I want, but might be a win for you, but I guess it is also down to going somewhere to stand on a lot of boards, more so than just order online and hope for the best.

A number of other woodshops do seem to have similar angles of kicks with medium or more concave, but as most woodshops have a number of different presses, or more than one board per press, sometimes it is sorting through boards and finding one you like.

Also it seems that some shapes / widths can have more or less concave too, often DLX 8.25 having more concave on average than DLX 8.38 shapes, just as one example.  Some Magenta and Black Label 8.5 boards I had not too long ago were way steeper than others I had in the past, being in the 24 / 23 range, but that doesn't mean all of them would be like that.

Anything from single press woodshops (mostly China) will always be the exact same, every single time, which again are steeper than I like and also very stiff, so trying anything DSM or other from China could also be of interest, but I couldn't tell you off hand which might be steeper there.

The Woodshop thread might help you more to find something though.

My wheel popped off with an exploded bearing while crooking a chunky ledge. The cage is fully intact. I went back to the scene of the murder the following day and found broken ball bearings. They were Bones Ceramic Super Reds bought on sale for $60 from a reputable dealer. Fake? I've never seen anything like this. When my bearings blow apart, it is always caused by the crown breaking. Are there issues with ceramic ball bearings shattering?

I might have misread but it looks like the cage shattered. Ceramic bearings for a skateboard don't make a ton of sense really. They're usually used in applications with extremely high RPM or loads as they dissipate heat better at high speeds, but skateboard wheels spin pretty slow and don't stay spinning at max speed super long. They can sometimes be more brittle than a metal ball.

Looks like your cage broke, which can happen but shouldn't on a bearing that expensive.

I often go to Tactics more just to look at the pics and info, as I am not in USA, but they have good top pics too, with all the dimensions so you can really work things out if you can't find a board in person.

To me the shapes are very much regular popsicles from the Alltimers boards I have had, in 8.25, 8.3 and 8.5 sizes.

Definitely not square or full shapes, but they are good wood and have the usual BBS concave to them.

* CORRECTION - I forgot Alltimers had changed from BBS to Clutch in 2023, so although you can still see some of those boards at Tactics that are BBS, I think the Alltimers site might have Clutch or a mix, so maybe just keep that in mind.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Does anybody know if a 1/16th riser that fits venture cast plates exists? Preferably one where I can still use 7/8 bolts (dont know if thats possible)

Wheels getting a lil small messing with timing on certain tricks, but feels wasteful to retire them when they're still in the 52 range
