never tried thunders before, but im on the fence if i should get thunders or the new venture v8s...ive skated venture5.8 standards before and they werent too bad. normally skate i dy or ace but want to give something new a try. what would yall recommend? i skate transition at parks and curbs for the most part

Compared to Aces….thunders will feel similar to ventures…..but lower, a bit lighter.  The initial part of the turn is better….what about Lurpivs if you actually want to try something different?

Thunders are great, give them a try.

Thunder axles sip like crazy. When someone at a session does something sick, be sure to bang your board in applause on the slipped axle.

lol I havent seen an axle slip in like 20 years i want to say...?

have never heard this complaint about axle slip lol not sure if thats a  troll. the main thing i have heard people complain about and i understand now is the baseplate is very short, combined with one of the most pushed out wheelbases available, it really causes the wheels to drag on square ledge nose/tailslide tricks. Ventures push the wheelbase out even more, but since the baseplate on ventures is gigantic, your wheels are less likely to brush the wall.

Thunders are lighter than Ventures and slightly lower, but just by 1mm if we are talking cast plate. if you get into Venture Lows you can go super low - lower than thunders, and also the thunder lights or hollow lights with the forged baseplates can get pretty low too.

Thunders are known for a very hard pinch where Ventures have a bit more gradual turn. This is because Thunder uses 2x Barrel Style Bushings where Ventures uses the traditional Cylinder shape for the bottom bushing and a barrel style for the top.

Not a troll, just my experience with 5 pairs of Thunders between 1994 and 2018. Mostly slip axles and broken kingpins.

Can confirm, get nasty axle slip on Thunders.

I actually spoke to a dlx rep about it (maybe through this site even), and they wanted me to “video the axle slippage”…

Which is kinda like.. how do you film something that happens skating organically with a truck? If I demonstrate the slippage by intentionally banging the axle on an hard object, I’m misusing the truck.

I thought that interaction was kinda weird and nonsensical.

If it’s a shaped deck, I think we can reasonably ascertain that it is a Clutch deck.
Their W series are all shaped though, so if it’s a popsicle, we can chuck my theory right out the window.

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me… You think you got me?

I am curious to hear as well.

Also interested to add it to the Woodshop thread too.

Do you have a pic of the whole top of the board for reference?

Thanks.

Also what brand, or where from, or anything else?

Blank or branded board, etc.

Yeah it is often weird, but it is the easiest way to deal with anything - sort it out online, no sending product back to the distribution company or even further back to the supplier these days.

Had a similar thing with some current Indy axles slipping too, show play, spin wheel, smack on something, then show the wheel is not moving...

At least that is the easiest way to do it, even if it is a bit awkward, but set up the phone on a tripod or something and it might be easier.

Another way was draw a pen line on the axle against the hanger end, then hit the ground, then show the pen line has now moved.  The spinning, then not spinning wheel is an easier one though.

Axle slip is definitely covered under warranty too, even if it is not as easy to see as a broken axle, or broken part.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Well, I’ve got nothing.

Lou I think you are right - it is Clutch, because their "3"  is usually 7.75 from their shape guide, just the "W" might have thrown you off, as per the link below:

https://rayzlv.wixsite.com/clutchdistribution/copy-of-shapes-1

That's all I got too, but I think it stands that it is most likely the best guess right about now.

The only other one is a slightly larger number only was Control, but I think it was a bigger font than that, so going back to thinking it is a Clutch board.

Edit:

I am not at all knowledgeable on their various shapes, besides what I had posted on the first page and what is available on their site info, but I would think it got the 3 for the 7.75 and then maybe had meant to put something else like B - tapered on both ends, but ended up with W which as you said was for the shaped boards in the next page on their site.

They're quite ok skating wise, wouldn't use them as chillers tho.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

More of a performance athletic shoe than chillers IMO.

It definitely happens.

Same when I used to fly a lot and take a board with me.  Felt so different after a while compared to an identical setup I had at home.  Almost waterlogged but not, felt heavier though.

Any trick tips on how to break in shoes with leather collars? I got some GT Blazers and they're pretty nice except the collar of the shoe is just anhialating my achilles. Seems to be the case with a lot of low top shoes I try.

if they dont have any metal eyelets id say michaelwave them for 10 seconds at a time. you could also try conditioning the leather if you're afraid of the glue holding the sole giving out from the michael

Wear heel plasters till they're broken in.

If its the rear you can step on it like its a slipper to start trying to bend it so its more pliable. The heel cup is flexible enough on a Blazer to not distort too much in doing so. Blazers mostly stretch on the side of the shoe not the collar.

I have the GT Blazer Lows and they felt kinda shitty at first, really stiff. had to just wear them a lot as chillers and on walks. but once they broken in they felt absolutely amazing and they seem like they dont lose the shape very easily compared to most other shoes.

The gt blazer lows rubbed the under side of my ankle, like the insole is too low...don't remember ever having that problem ever before with any other shoes... Actually the only other shoe that I can remember was some Lakai back in 2007 that left my Achilles in a bloody mess after wearing them for a two hour pub session and a twenty odd min walk home. Left them on the footpath. Anyone that has ever been to Dublin imagine walking from Fibbers to Dallymount bare foot at 2am...in the fucking rain also.

how often are you blowing through pants?
crotch specifically, i might need a sponsor
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

My crotch(es?) usually stay(s) intact. That frontside side seam/back pocket is what gets worked for me, especially if I’m carrying anything.

I gotta get like 6 good, hard sessions on a pair before they start getting shredded or I’m pissed

Wow sorry, didn't realise I was dealing with a sick cunt here

More than anything, people I know would often blow out the crutch if they didn't wear the pants high enough, or wear a belt or shoelace, eg just something to keep them up.

Dickies 874 have this happen a lot, never to me because I always wear a belt, but as soon as the pants slouch some and you stretch or even just push, it can rip the pants quite easily.

Other brands tend to have the same issues, but that is just the experience I have had and seen.  Maybe not relevant to you specifically, but I thought it was worth a mention.

Levi's 550's in Canada the quality as of late has been awful, took a look in store and all the crotches looked as if they had been pre sandblasted. The two pairs I have had this year have stretched at least one waist size in addition to the crotches going.

Also to add to this, leaving setup in car during winter months the steel in your trucks can have a profound effect on bushings as well soft wheels.

Had a great satori snot balls for a filmer cruiser deck left in my trunk for entire winter, well came spring time in Alabama and filming for a homie video the wheels started to chunk and fall apart.
