Thinking about getting in the insole game, how much should I be paying? Prices seem pretty high [fp and remind]. I thought they would be like $15. Higher prices worth it?

Also pretty worried about stack height. Any low but effective recommendations? Anybody see results with switching work shoes/chill shoes?.

The stack height is a real issue (depending on shoe and foot of course). I found some thin enough but still functional gel insoles from the local hardware store workwear section. Cost 10 euros.

Remind, FP, and skate company insoles suck. Save yourself some time and get some of these or the higher arch ones: https://www.superfeet.com/products/run-cushion-low-arch

I liked these in Vans cuz they're thicker: https://www.superfeet.com/products/all-purpose-cushion

Some people like these: https://www.amazon.com/PowerStep-Pulse-Performance-Running-Insoles/dp/B09C2M14RJ/

Depends on what shoes you wear and what you're after.

^Those three options are good. The powersteps are great but definitely quite thick and will result in some stack if the stock insole you're replacing is very small/thin

I skate accels. The insoles seems pretty thin, 99% sure there is something better. Im really just tryna get my feet to hurt less, when I wake up I can’t walk right for like 5 mins.

I mostly skate around and try tricks while waiting for the bus. I jump off sht but not too much and nothing more than 4 or 5 right now. Sometimes I gotta run out hills. Skate tranny once or twice a week too.If

Anybody ever try smearing a little blue loctite inside the bearing seat/on the outside of the races to stop bearings from shifting around? Wanted to ask before I gooped anything up.

These are 78A softies with a hard plastic core btw. Core just feels a hair too big or something.

Blue Loctite doesn’t work this way, you’d need to use green (expansive, a void filler) for this to work. My guess is that it won’t like the polyurethane, especially the softer variety, but who knows.

whatever you do, do NOT buy FP insoles. Complete scam company and shit product too. Aside form all that the bowling ball drop social media ad is impressive at first but think about it, if you're trying to jump, how's that gonna affect your spring?

I'd get a better shoe with a midsole. An insole can't fix what's not there. Insoles provide heel and arch support for better joint alignment and can dampen some impact, but midsole foam is designed to disperse impact.

A lot of new balance cupsoles.

1010 or the new 933, though the latter is definitely going to be quite stiff and thick for coming from es accels. 480 works too if they fit you but I personally am not the biggest fan

Some thinner options are the 600, or 440 v2 even.

vans rowan 2, ave 2, dunks, asics vic nbd or japan pros, adidas tyshawn 2... just some other options off the top of my head

is it safe to say that the "spin test" is kinda dogshit?

I have read a lot of people on here say "dont go by that" and also from my own experience, i have had bearings that didnt do amazing in the spin test but did fine otherwise. i think it is worth noting if you hear the bearing make that horrible "non spinning" buzz out sound, clearly they WONT work well.

this homey at my work gave me some bearings he used in his RC Motorized Longboard thingy. I didnt put them on any "serious" setups for a long time, were just kinda on the back burner cause they were seemingly performing poor in the "spin test". set them up and they are actually so good and they are seemingly never going dry or getting any crap inside them to slow them down. i think they are just very well lubricated with good shields, and low tolerances / small gaps between ball + space it sits inside, but not overly lubricated to the point they are "swimming" in oil and actually slowing the balls down. the guy that gave me them is an engineer type dude, really good at building stuff, so it wouldnt surprise me he keeps all his shit super pristine.

Yes, aside from basically telling whether or not your bearings are just broken, a test without a "dynamic load" is functionally useless.

Does anyone know the woodshop where dick blick sources their decks?

i think it's totally normal for young people to not want to be associated with the brand that has all the 40 pluses in a chokehold. midsole so good you start forgetting that the brand is maga-owned

https://time.com/7171569/joe-preston-new-balance-interview/

It's not MAGA owned and actually a brand that didn't donate to the 2024 inauguration. I guess their 2016 position wasn't great, but they publicly addressed it and pivoted. What do you want when your alternatives are dying core brands, Nike/slave labor, or Adidas which has supported plenty of shitty people too.

Your average skater kid knows nothing about this. They buy what seems trending in their own sphere and the only people who are reading into old political controversies are the 40+ crowd you're referencing. It comes down to image for most skaters.

do you think having a shorter wb (14") could help solve my ghost pop issue on Lurpivs? does that make any sense? the board i was on before was 14.5" wb

not necessarily. sticking with what you were on would solve it. Ghost pop tends to be from many factors and for me its worse on boards too short. This is cuz my front foot is less far out, which makes lifting it and timing weird. Plus you gotta factor in kick steepness and shit.

Looking at grabbing a PS Stix Quasi with these dims.

Shape - Q63
Width - 8.5"
Length - 32.125"
Wheelbase - 14.5"

Aren’t the width/length normally smaller since they include the curvature in their measurements or am I crazy

I use Spenco insoles. I think they have a bunch of different ones now but I use the original cheaper thin flat ones. They are definitely not tall. I think they're like $20 with free shipping. They're not marketed as skate insoles or sports insoles at all. I started wearing them in my work boots maybe 25 years ago and they've just sort of been a constant since then. I only started using them for skating maybe a year ago and I love them. Also, they last forever and don't stink.

Yeah, take off maybe .25 in total length, so more like about 31.875 which oddly enough is the most common length for PS Stix boards anyway, not always, but definitely more often than not when they are listed as 32.1 to 32.2 or so.

Measuring a few here, that is what I got when running a straight tape across the boards, rather than with the concave.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Bet! Would the width be closer to 8.38 in that case?

Would spray painting a parking lot block then going over it with clear lacquer still work to make it slick?

you dont need the clear lacquer, the paint is already slippery. but the more the merrier! i would wait until the first layer is COMPLETELY dry

No the width and wheelbase are the same measurements, just the overall length.

Some PS Stix boards do taper a fair bit though, but it is just down to the specific shape - one I have is more like 8.2 at the back bolts from 8.5 at the front, whereas some others have been 8.5 at both trucks.

The length however has always been measured with the concave, compared to the industry standard of straight tape from tip to tip.

I don't know, and they have all kinds of wood products so they could be made by a non-skate woodshop, but they look like HLC decks in the photos.

I thought you were right but I emailed them and they said "We source the blank skateboard decks from a 100% skateboarder-owned distributor in the United States. However, the decks themselves are currently made in Mexico. The Standardized Wheelbase of the 9" W x 33-1/5" L XL Street Deck is 14.5”

So it sounds like they are BBS? Unfortunately their 9x33 doesn't seem to be the same as the BBS standard 9 with the 15 inch wheel base
