i would like this board/truck ratio ideally.

10” trucks

oops thought 55 were 8.75" axle width. thx
[close]

To be fair, I have seen a lot of people thinking their Ace trucks were not as wide as they are stated in the catalog and spec sheets, mainly because Ace tend to have the right listed axle length, but the hanger itself is often a little shorter which leaves the truck feeling not quite as wide, or the axle seemingly longer, or people have to put in a few more washers just to get their wheels to the end of the axles.

Anyone running one washer on the inside will usually find that their trucks could easily seem like a size down, eg the Classic 55 which is said to be 9.0 even, but fits quite well on boards that are not 9" wide, or the wheels sit in a fair bit on a 9" deck.  One guy I know has those same trucks on 8.75" boards and doesn't say they stick out at all, even though it looks like it does to me.

I even have a set of Classic 66s (9.38) on a 9.25 board and the wheels don't stick out at all, but I do wonder how far past that starts to get a bit weird / unmanageable for some people, especially in the 10" wide boards and trucks, but I guess a lot more are setting up boards of that and even wider sizes now, so it is not that silly sounding.
[close]

Yeah exactly,
cause often the 10" pop set with 10" trucks feel like the trucks are poking out. Imo the ones like the horse pill post earlier with the 66s looks like it fits better than some hypothetical 80 af1
[close]

I just want to say I’m sure horse pill is great with 9-9.5” trucks but it really is perfect for 10” trucks. I think a lot of “big” boards taper so much that you get hot rodding on at least one of the trucks, but horse pill has no taper. I’ve got it set up with some 53 conical fulls and it’s totally perfect, didn’t work for me with narrower trucks

kickflippable?

I’ve been riding a 9.5” Heroin popsicle and loving it.

I wish a few more brands offered that size.

i've held one and it looks soo good. the fat nose looks better than the eggs. and its not as chuncky at those 10" pops. but it was one of the holographic foil ones and i dont wanna skate a reflective board. i did definitly consider it.

I have successfully kickflipped it, but you gotta want it. The weight makes it harder than the size imo

Indy 215's are some big wave riding.

Thunder 181 would be so cool.

I'll stick to AF1 77's in the meantime.

Black Label Super Mex Deck 9.5 x 32.125

Features:
"Tugboat" Shape
Width - 9.5"
Length - 32.125"
Wheelbase - 14.5"
Traditional 7-ply construction

I don't have one but it is very tempting. Anyone skate this shape or something similar? It looks fun.

That's the same shape as the "Vulture Curb Club" deck. Always wanted one, difficult to find in Europe. It seems pretty perfect "on paper".

I got a couple of these boards ages ago, but still haven't set any up, I guess mainly because the trucks would sit weirdly to me on them - as per the usual 80s board, front truck sits inside the deck line, back truck sits outside the deck line - so every time I get one out and sit trucks with wheels on it, I will usually set up something else instead.  * I should say I have others with similar shapes already set up as cruisers on 169s and big soft wheels, but it was more so to set one up to skate normally.

When you say "need to shave the rear axle down" do you mean just take a little off the axle ends, or actually trim the hanger metal as well?

For some other boards I angle grinded off a bit of the ends of some 169 axles to make them fit well on 9.0" popsicles, but I have also seen people take down the hanger ends as well, which I don't think I could easily do, or at least it seemed like it required specialty tools of which I didn't have any like that.

Running one washer on the inside and maybe none on the outside with some play seems to work well enough for me in that regard.

I skated one and even though it's squared off on the ends, the taper towards the nose and tail make it feel a lot more manageable than the 9.5" width implies. Only problem I had with it, and it's the same problem I have with eggs / footballs, is the taper of the shape makes the kicks feel smaller than what they are but if you're used to that it's a fun board.

@WelcomeToHell theyre a good shape. I’d definitely say give one a shot.
@Mbrimson88 i did both. Couldn’t do 159s since they’re way too magic carpet with it at 14.5 wb. When I said shave the rear, I meant a little of both. 2 swipes on the hanger with a sanding block(40/80/120 grit paper that order) and then file the axle end down as well(they sat at 3mm past the nut with washers inside/outside from the factory). These trucks won’t live to see another deck so figured why not get it to fit better.

Nice!

Thanks for the reply and info.

I might have a bit of a go taking a hanger down too, cause I have some 8.86 or so boards that 159s are just a little too skinny and 169s are a little too big.

Probably would work on an even 9.0 truck with minimal washers too, but at least you give me some inspiration in trying different things there.
