Probably a kook question but does anyone else wear a lot of skate clothing?
A lot of the clothes I wear now are skate brands and sometimes I feel a bit ridiculous but the way I look at is even though I’m still pretty new to skating I’d rather support a brand (or hobby I guess) and buy their clothes than buy some shit at target or any lame retail store. Plus the days of core skate shoes are pretty much over so you can at least support the brands by buying their clothing.
Not at all a kook question, but quite simply, clothing in general is where shops make their margins, or at least clothing and soft goods have a way better markup than skate hardgoods, so by buying skate clothing, you are usually (not always, I know) supporting the skate brand and the shop you get them from.
As to affordability, if you can afford it, why not? For a lot of people, myself included, growing up I couldn't afford a lot of things, so I spent the little money I had on skate hardgoods more than soft goods, so the department store plain stuff was fine. When travelling around as an adult, I would usually buy a tshirt or something small from all the skate shops I went into so I almost over loaded my wardrobe with tshirts, as well as other things too, because I was stoked to buy some rad looking stuff and support those skate shops in that way. I could wear the skate brand tees to work too, so that was a plus.
Some people I know will often be very quick to call out others if they "look the part" but don't act the part, or if they aren't as good a skater as they might deem should be wearing a full brand outfit, but I really think that is just them being bitter, which doesn't really reflect well on skateboarders as a whole, but so be it.
If you can afford those things, as well as being stoked on them, you go for it.
