Can anyone measure and take pics of a new Indy 149 (preferably hollow) axle with no axle nuts on with a measuring tape to confirm that it's actually 8.38? I measured a pair at a shop recently with that result, friend measured solid axle with different results.
I took a pic of a hollow 149 but the pic is too large to upload. Anyway it's 8.45" on my truck for what it's worth.

Thanks. My pair is 8.38 on the dot but a tad worn. Did you measure the hole on the side so @BartHarleyJarvis can figure out if his micropenis will fit  :-*

Thought on trucks skinnier than the board ?

I made an offer for Indy hollows 144 and insulate a 8.5 deck. Can’t cancel but they’re already priced allow amd I still offered $10 so might not go through.

A lot of people do run that exact combination, the 8.25 truck on the 8.38 or 8.5 width board, so you would not be alone there.

People who prefer street tech over bowl and transition type of skating usually go with that option more so from my experience, but it is just down to personal preference really.

Some people will always, without fail, ride trucks that sit under the board 144s on 8.5s, where as others (like me) prefer trucks right on the width - 149s on 8.5s, then others will ride trucks wider than the deck, 159s on 8.5s.

Find what works best for you and enjoy it.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

They actually don't. The whole point of the mag is to be picked up free from shops and to be included free with online orders.

I have used that exact combination, it works great. it feels a lot better for flip tricks but also feels really stable. you can carve really deep because you can get a lot of leverage over the trucks. 8.38 deck imo is even better, but i can hardly tell the difference to be honest. i just find the 8.38's have the wb i like more often (8.5s are typicaly at 14.5 which is a little TOO long for my preference)

i know it’s been discussed somewhere on here before but how are non SB dunks for skating? i see regular dunks on sale all the time and I’ve been really curious about skating a pair. similar shoes with that shape tend to work out for me and i don’t feel like paying full price for SBs especially when regular ones are available and on sale all over the place now. obviously they aren’t going to hold up quite like a pair of SBs but if the price is right and the colors aren’t gross, i’d still like to skate some just because. are the stock insoles removable and if so, does anyone have any recommendations for replacements for them?

Meeting up with the homie to skate tomorrow and wanna buy a new board. My shops dead and my best options rn are between a shop owned by a long boarder and a punk rock shop.

The board buying experience is very sacred to me and I wanna stay as core as possible. Which is closer to skateboarding?

Does one of them do stuff to support the community at large? My only local is a clothing store that has surf and hardgoods in the basement. The selection is small and often a little stale but they carry good brands and have affordable shop decks and completes for kids. It's not a good skateshop by any standard but I try to support them because they do a lot of good things in the local community. They support the skatepark and surfing community. They support our local homeless shelter with clothes, shoes and socks. They have long time employees and offer health insurance. In short, they're an asset to our local community and I'm happy to give them my money when I can even if they're far from core.

Not to put down either of them, but if they are both not exactly who you would go to, what is their selection like?  Does one shop have a lot more of what you would prefer than the other for the size, shape, brand, and lastly what is the customer service like, the people serving you make you feel welcome or not and all those factors?

I learned long ago when going into a lot of skate shops all over the country here, some I felt welcomed and was way more likely to buy from and return to, while others gave me the impression I was a hinderance, or the person behind the counter didn't even acknowledge me walking in the door, so I was way less likely to buy anything, or ever go back again.  Sure there could be good or bad days for anyone, but who actually owns the shop can often be the last thing to really consider, if there are other factors in play.  To note, I would usually buy something from every shop I went into, just because I can, but only a few shops I walked out of with nothing and never went back.

Anyway, Osage put up some good points too, but even the term "core" can sometimes be over used or mis represented to the point where as per your question, I wonder what "your shop" you are referring to as well - your local shop doesn't have what you want or you just don't want to go there for whatever reason?

I was trying not be too long winded.  My first local died a couple months ago [Brackish Waters Oxon Hill, MD]. Since then my local has been Crushed DC. The owners cool and rips but they literally never have any product. I can’t say they do nothing for the scene maybe I’m out the loop but I haven’t seen anything. He gave me some trucks one time.

The longboarder shop is Bethesda Boards and Scooters. I genuinely don’t know how he stays in business. I haven’t seen any scooters or longboards in there. Guys pretty weird but the boards I got from there have been some of my favorites and he used to setup my boards before I knew how. I think his boards been sitting for a while. He kinda got fucked and had to tear down his indoor park situation. Think they still do skate lessons. Also tryna to double as an event venue. Always low on trucks and wheels, doesn’t sell shoes.

The punk rock store [Smash Records] has a lot of 80s shaped boards and a couple pops in a trash can. Im skating one of those trash boards rn and I hate it [Mini Logo]. Not sure Incould get a quality board there. The shops cool tho, it’s a record store/clothing store. The register has trucks and sht like a skate shop. I don’t know if they do anything for the community but they seem in tune with it. If I had to guess I would think they do. Last time I was there guy had on an independent hat and other gay said he skated but idk how much they are connected to the skate scene, at least currently.

Lately I been going to Baltimore to Vu to get my boards but after two straight boards that i finished in less than 2 weeks and getting stuck out there last time I’m tired of that mission. Vu feels like how I think a shop should feel. Also just learned about Fairfax, it’s a surf shop or hybrid shop and they have a skate team. I just haven’t been out there yet.

Smash looks like a cool record store.

Bethesda Boards says they currently have 55 decks to choose from. Plus, you already have a rapport with them. Looks like they’re your actual local shop. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Skating a 8.25 with 139 hollow Indy's and it's amazing for everything but slappy crooks. The curb I skate is vertical and kinda tall and I'm finding it hard to get into crooks.

Would sizing up to 144 make too much difference? I really prefer the magic carpet for everything else

i had a better time with quantum ceramics > swiss 6
but half of each set are shot rn so im mixing both
ymmv, but they are the best budget ceramic out imo
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

I've had all the Bones variants and while Swiss are great I'd pick Quantum every time. My Atoms are going on 5 years now and they're still going great. I like supporting a skater-owned company that nerd out on tech stuff as opposed to Skate One. My last sets of Swiss 6 as well as those a few friends have had all had jamming issues and the cages cracked within a year. IDK if it was a bad run we somehow all got or what, but those were a huge disappointment. I'd run Swiss again no problem if that's all I could get, but given the choice I'd pay for Quantum as I can run them longer between cleanings and when I needed new shields I emailed Quantum and got a lifetime supply for free whereas Skate One wouldn't warranty my shitty Swiss 6 when they were well within the window and there was a clear issue with the cages.

Difficult question to answer since Bones makes bearings ranging in price from $15-125.

My Atoms failed after a few months. I wasn't bummed about it, I don't think skate bearings will last forever. My Bones Swiss have outlasted them by orders of magnitude. I don't think there's any way that a white label bearing like that is going to compare a Swiss made bearing.
