@RichardBarkley I do not agree with your it is better just not to get involved view of politics. Democracy doesn't start and end at the voting booth. Voting is the bare-minimum not the maximum.
So far--just this year--Richard Uihlein has "donated" 29 million dollars, Kenneth Griffin 21 million, Lawrence Ellison 20 million, Peter Thiel 20 million, Jeffrey Yass 13 million, Shirley Ryan 10 million to conservative political action committees. This is 113 million dollars spent on influencing elections putting people with shit takes in power.
If someone spends 45 dollars and 30 minutes of time putting together a website, it is pretty minimal effort in a system that requires voting, volunteering (door-to-door canvassing, making phone calls, etc.), and "donations" to "work."
Mikey Taylor is a spoiled jerk who never worked an actual job a day in his life. He has no empathy for or understanding of those who actually have to go to work. His arrogant takes on the economy, politics, and life should be marginalized not at the center of city government. The last thing Thousand Oaks or America needs is another landlord who thinks he is the messiah because he got lucky.
If the website was a photo of Mr. Ed, that'd be unfair. But a website that points out his bad takes, how fucking dumb he is, and says, "this dude is not capable of running a city" is more than fine.
Why would it be a good idea to sit back and watch a person with horrible takes put those takes into action?
Why sit back and watch him try to obtain political power so he can make life easier for himself and other millionaires while making life harder for the rest of us? I donated money in the last election cycle to candidates that I don't know personally to prevent people like this asshole from obtaining power. I gave money to those who actually want to improve America and make it better for everyday people, not landlords who worry about businesses more than people.
While I can't find much evidence of Mikey donating to charity (not surprised there), you don't think his storage money influences the outcomes of elections in California?
Mikey Taylor is not some individual trying to live his life outside of the limelight. He is an arrogant wanna-be influencer turned politician who thinks all former pros wish they were him. Pointing out his dumb ass ideas and the negative impact he makes on the world is more than fine.
