Some takes on the way home:
The currently trending hardcore/Emo music is cringe in general and doesn’t mix well with skating.
The majority of people who talk about wheel base on public forums (eg here, twitter) are not great skaters (not that it matters).
The ironic-bad-outfit fashion thing is the tight pants of the current generation (guilty of tight pants in my younger years
)
Pressure flips are corny again.
Skatepark footage is fine for transition clips.
Gifted Hater is the same tier as Dan Corrigan (not saying either is good or bad).
Krux is the same tier as Braille (not saying either is good or bad).
Nyjah should have gotten SOTY (idk how unpopular this one is).
SOTY doesn’t have anywhere near the impact now it did years ago.
The entire legacy baker/deathwish crew are kooks, as outed from trying to make this reality tv show well in their 30’s:
“More celebrities know of me than I know of them”
Anyone over the age of ~23 acting like a cool guy is suffering from arrested development and would do well to watch that Rob Pluhowski Jenkem piece. Skating rules, but taking it seriously to the point of ostracizing others is lame af.
Rodney Mullen is a grifter.
More of skateboarder’s peripheral figures deserve (guest if nothing else) pro-boards. Prolific diy-ers, filmers, city ambassadors, etc. deserve more recognition/a piece of the pie.
Professional skaters have almost nothing interesting to say on anything unrelated to skateboarding.
Rodrigo TX was too ahead of his time.
Darrel Stanton is the most underrated skateboarder of all time.
Sk8mafia team is a tier above FA in skill. (Though has absolutely zero image
).
People can wear whatever they want. Mismatched sock/shoe brands? Who cares. Big boys w cobra fleece hoodie? Who cares. Worrying about that is probably a sign that you don’t have enough occupying your mind.
