Learned I'm gonna need another surgery, made me feel really anxious. I'm not worried about my health since I'm in good hands, but I am worried about how much I can skate. I'm only in my mid twenties now but I'm worried that I'm losing the finite time I've got to be physically active to my health issues. Has anyone got any nice stories about progressing after an injury or during that time frame in their life? I just wanna keep learning stuff but I'm worried I won't be able to sooner than I'd like.
Seeing as you're in your mid twenties, you should be just fine. Just take your physical therapy seriously and get all that you can out of it. Exercise will be crucial to you getting back to where you want to be, mentally and physically. To answer your question I fucked my ankle terribly when I was around 26/27 an was out for around 6 months. When I could push around I bought a vx and filmed to get out, see my friends, and stay active. Really helpful and got me to approach skating in different ways when I could get back on the board.
Also, when you are able to skate and pop and shit, skate alone for a few sessions. That helped me a lot to just get out, sweat, and skate without having to talk to anyone and get distracted. Plus no peripheral pressure to perform, which was huge in getting me to stay calm and patient throughout the recovery process.
