what is the pop feel for steep kicks with 44s? hated 55s with medium/mellow kicks, but have a feeling that they shine with steep kicks.
44s and steep kicks feel quite good, mentioned upthread awhile back about how it's become my preference recently to the point where the madness has abated. (I go for DLX 8.25 x 32 and 8.4 x 32 shapes, "I" on the top ply.)
Aces have an easy feeling pop on pretty much every board, but put them on a steep tail and they feel springy and floaty without feeling too "light," per se. I found that you get a decent pop from pretty much anywhere on the tail with them, and that made something click with me so that my flatground game has become more consistent. Now I'm feeling up to learning some meat and potatoes tricks I've never been able to get down (tre flips, big spin flips, fs flips especially) because the steep tail/44 combo responds pretty predictably to my foot placement and that makes the board feel easier to control.
Those setups even seem less tiring to skate than the ones on Ventures, since sessions seem to go a little longer before my legs turn to jelly. I can say for sure they feel lighter than some Indies with forged hollow plates and 149 standard hangers felt (frankentrucks, waiting on NHS warranty), even though they are quite a bit heavier. Hard to describe, but the bottom line is it's super satisfying and I don't even want to ride anything else for the time being, or probably even ride Indies ever again.
