Not on Netflix, but HBOMax has so much great shit. Highly recommend checking out Boardwalk Empire. Steve Buscemi does an immaculate job.

Been watching the "Sons of Sam" docuseries on Netflix about the Summer of Sam murders.

Pretty fascinating and simultaneously fucking weird.

Larry Charles’ Dangerous World of Comedy:

Incredibly well done expose about Comedy/Comedians in the most dangerous (or unfunny) parts of the world.  Super intense and hard to watch at times (especially the part about Liberia), but a fascinating look at some goddamn courageous people and some really shitty people who make comedy out of shitty situations.

The parts about Liberia were insane, the parts about female comedians in Saudi Arabia and Nigeria were amazing.  The part about alt-right “trolls” made me wanna kick in my tv screen.

Also crazy that somebody I know is in one of the episodes.

Fantastic and highly recommended.

got sucked in to Derry Girls and was bummed that the two seasons went by so quick--i think i miss about half of what they say, so i watch it with subtitles.

i'm not comparing the times and places, but still, it feels like the stories of a group of teenage girls just trying to be teenage girls during the "Troubles" in Northern Ireland might have some value to young folks in the good Ol' US of A currently.

i dig all of the characters, but the head nun (Sister Michael) at their school is fucking hilarious at times

sorry to quote myself, but i'm in the midst of running through these two seasons of Derry Girls again, and felt compelled to repeat everything i say above...the end of the last episode of season 1 had me in tears--again--last night...maybe i'm just getting old...

edit: yep, couldn't help myself, Sister Michael reading The Exorcist here is fucking genius

Been watching the first season of The Terror on Hulu. Incredible.

That season is incredible. Jared Harris rocks my socks.

For Netflix, Giri/Haji and Flowers are both super good for any other Anglophiles like myself. Will Sharpe is so damn good in two radically different roles

Been watching this show “Mr Inbetween” on Hulu.  I avoided it for a while because the ad annoyed me, but I finally gave it a chance and it’s really fantastic

Fun docuseries on people who committed heists and how how they got caught, as told by the subjects themselves.

Totally the wrong thread but HOLY FUCK The Green Knight is a transcendent cinematic masterpiece. It’s so good. It’s been a long time since I walked out of a movie theater wanting to be a better person. The visuals, the soundtrack, all of it is basically perfect. Can’t wait to see it again.

On an appropriate note, I just watched Relic. Lovely tense little horror film that I don’t want to spoil but it’s very emotionally poignant and tense throughout. Worth a watch.

Wife and I been watching the Crown. Was really in to it, got to season 3 with the cast change… Nah. It’s too abrupt. I can’t handle the new queen, she’s supposed to be 39, which is my age, and she looks 55… and Helena Bonham Carter is just Marla Singer in a tiara so far.

The cast change is pretty abrupt, but hang in there you’ll get used to it.

Get hungry on it!

I’ve ranted on bloodline so many times on how great it is… incredibly underrated. Great intro song, writing, acting. Ben Mendelsohn’s best work IMO.

Can't wait for this next season. Also really looking forward to/hoping they don't fuck up the Cowboy Bebop adaptation. They probably will though.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Not sure if anyone suggested this, but watched Prospect the other night and found it well-acted and cool art style for a sci-fi movie:

So far DopeSick is the best show I have seen in a long time. I don’t want to give anything away. It’s just amazing.

Couldn't agree more. Beautiful setting too. Also can't believe Kevin did that! Starting season 3. Fucking Florida Man

it's good to see the Bloodline love...and season 3 is hectic. funny you mention the setting, because as beautiful as the keys and that part of Florida is, i think the filmmakers are doing some compelling things with how precarious and impermanent all of that part of the country is too and is going to be...like all of those aerial tracking shots where it will cut from some crazy stressful shit going down in the story, right to a character driving (often Kyle Chandler's character, John) alone on some fucked stretch of highway on stilts over an ocean that is inevitably going to take all of that shit back. i know they're meant to be kind of interludes, but in my eyes, those aerial shots of lone cars driving over water on those stretches of highway do a lot to mirror the general feelings of precariousness, isolation, impermanence, and anxiety that permeate the series.

in a series that is so much about the perhaps futility of families seeking familial immortality, as it were, impermanence and precariousness radiating from the fucking landscape just seems to amplify how fucked things are for the Rayburn family as things unravel, and of course for anyone who has the misfortune to get tangled up with them...

Deputy, I enjoyed reading your analysis. You should write more insight about other shows/films. Always sad to finish an intriguing, entertaining series. Stellar staff with the exception of John's son. Quite unremarkable with not much dialogue/action. Very nice contrast to see Belle stand by. John's wife towards the end reminded me of Skyler from Breaking Bad. I also liked Marco's mannerisms during interviews and delivery/tone of Danny's voice.

spriggan remake should be gnarly

got the pirate version of the original when it released in the late 90s and it didnt have subtitles watched it a million times and never understood any of the dialogue

Keep forgetting to see it with subtitles

Im usually Hyped on a lot of the anime remakes
