we were skating next to a dog park, and this pug kept running back and forth along the fence as we passes, and once, while i filmed a line, the pug busted out somehow and chased us. the dude i was filming landed the line anyway. the thing was, the dog wasn't trying to bite us, he just really like skateboards, and pushed it around with his head and stuff. and the owner said its name was ollie!wow it isnt snowing there but here in northern california it is snowing at 500 feet damn

well, i didnt skate today, instead i ended up driving a few hours to save some friends who were stranded at the Tillamook cheese factory, no kidding. BUT! i did see some super radical tillamook spots and started thinking of all the possibilities and shit i want to do when its not raining. ?
but two days ago when i skated last i skated with some friends, one who i had'nt seen in over a year. they both ripped which i cant say for myself, but i got some frontside slashes on a super chunky brick quarter and the noise alone was enough.

i was in the parking lot of the supermarket so i took out my board, did a crispy tre flip first try and then put it back and went about my business.
Friendship aspect. Friend of mine was here from out of town over the weekend, and I brought him around to a ton of spots, getting a chance to skate them with somebody I never expected to made it so much more awesome. I know its cheesy, but you can't deny the truth in it, and the truth in it is what's making me hyped right now.
Lately, the best feeling has been that first couple of minutes where I get to the spot or the park, and first throw the board down & just roll. It usually takes me about 3 minutes of just rolling and doing ollies before I feel warmed up enough to start doing tricks, but that 3 minutes is just awesome... rolling, pushing, carving and sliding around, getting the crud of the day worked out of your system & just getting into skate mode.

YES! thats the sickest man, getting tres somewhat on lock is the greatest accomplishment of my life, fuck school or work, people dont understand, you just walked into that grocery store like a boss!
and that whole progression to warm up, thats what tres were for me, and ya, best feeling ever.
i will have to say like when you just get warmed up, and you do the first kickflip (which for me is way harder to nail than tres), as soon as you pop you know its flipping around leveled and you just stomp it, FUCK theres no drug that beats this shit!

Tonight it was about finally learning a trick I've been trying to figure out for months now (feebles on ledges). There's nothing like that feeling of unlocking a trick that was a complete mystery up till now.Figuring out a new ledge trick is always a treat, one of the best feelings. Did you learn backside feebles or frontside?
It's not so much a fear/adrenaline thing, like jumping on a rail or down some gap. It's more like solving a puzzle, but it's a definite high.
Did you learn backside feebles or frontside?
I have a really hard time doing them backside--never landed one. But I can do them frontside.

this weekend i got to skate something i helped build. its hard as fuck to skate, but being able to skate something that you had a hand in creating was as gratifying as skateboarding can be...its the feeling of being part of something, which i feel has been lost a bit in skateboarding these days. it still exists, but i feel like its not as big a part of what skateboarding used to be. i guess is just comes with the popularization/homogenization of anything....

speak for your mother fucking self. I build shit to skate all the time, as do a fuck ton of other people. its awesome that you created something and skated it, but when you talk about it like that, it comes off insanely self-righteous.
but if i have music and some solid ground i can skate flat for an hour and a half+ by myself at midnight when it's 35 degrees out. shit's just awesome.

Skated this ditch today, got a nice kickflip fakie going. I want to dry up that water in the middle so I can get a little more speed from the other side though, trying to get a no comply tailslide or something.
wearing myself down trying to do something. Skating a ditch trying to tailslide a pretty tall bank, pushing my ass off, coming close, running back and repeating it, despite my body sending me all sorts of signs to stop. I was seeing spots, my legs felt terrible, and I kept burping in a way wear I thought I was going to puke from overexertion, then I landed it, and laid down for like 10 minutes trying to catch my breath and get myself back to a stable state. I'm sore as fuck, but I got the trick, and now the soreness is just a reminder of what an awesome time skating I had today trying, and eventually landing that trick. Skateboarding is so fucking awesome. God I fucking love it.

Went to this spot with 2 tricks in mind... spent an hour & a half trying the first trick (fakie heel) off a ledge into this bank thing, landed on a few but never rode away. Finally, exhausted, dehydrated, sore, decided to give up, even though I hate giving up on a trick... just for the fuck of it, tried the 2nd trick (varial heel). Landed it in 3 tries. Immediately forgot I was tired & started trying other stuff. Landing something can definitely restore the energy level.: )

Was at the park and saw this 13 year old kid that I see there from time to time. A year or two back he had just started skating and was just learning how to 5050 curbs and learning flatground kickflips. This was my first time seeing him at the park in a good year or so and he did a hurricane on the ledge first try, switch ollied the 8 stair, varial heeled the pyramid, and did a bunch of other gnarly stuff. It blew my mind how much he progressed in such little time. I was stoked for him, but at the same time it kinda bummed me out. Seeing a little kid get just as good as me in such a short period of time is kinda disheartening.
But then after that I played some friends in SKATE and landed everything first try and got a few tricks back that I had lost a month before, such a good feeling. Had fun, landed everything clean, playfully talked shit back and forth with my friends as we were playing, fed off each others energy.... it all reminded me of why I love skating so much in the first place.

Anyways.....just might be the best park I've ever skated!

I just sort of nollie out sideways without the pop similar to the types of micro-ollies you'd do to get up a curb where you don't even tap the tail and just yank it up with your front foot and let your back foot back on when it's time. just take the weight off of your front truck by sliding your back foot toward the bolts or further while moving your tail away from the ledge. Guide your front end off by taking advantage of the change in weight distribution sliding it back off of the nose and pushing away from the ledge as you level and straighten out.Expand QuoteI finally figured out how to pop out of front truck grinds mid ledge without doing a shove it out or going to fakie on fs and bs crooks and nosegrinds and it feels amazing.[close]
Care to elaborate? I still haven't figured it out.

This weekend I was visiting my home town & I got to spend a day on the board, revisiting several of my childhood spots. Being 40 & skating something you skated when you were 13 is something I hope everyone here gets to experience. It's amazing the shit that comes back to you - old sessions, tricks you'd forgot, people you'd forgot, etc.
Plus it makes me realize that - aside from jumping down big shit & the ability to go without rest - I'm better in almost every way as a skater now than I was back then.

Reminds me of an article in Thrasher i think, about a local at the brooklyn banks who skated in workers timberlands sometime in the 90s. There's footage of it on youtube but i have no idea what video.

Skated for the first time in over 2 months today. It's -7 here (+19 US temp).. but it was finally dry enough to go out. Did a dozen kickflips in my driveway then I pretty much couldn't breathe anymore so I came inside.
skated a curb, was funThat happens to me on bs slappies sometimes. Try opening or turning your front shoulder a little more, that might help.
on frontide slappies both trucks lock in as they should but on backside slappies my front truck fully locks whilst my back truck grinds on the opposite side it should (or i would rather it to), with most of the truck off the curb

I was doing a line at the park today.
Fakie front noseslide the ledge, sw flip on the bank, then nollie back tail on the same ledge.
I landed it a few times, felt good. This kid, he was probably 13-14, starts doing nollie back tails right after me and lands one.
Then lazerbeams me. I smiled and nodded.
It was rad. Might've bummed me out when I was younger, but I'm old.
Skating is awesome.
Been working crazy hours and was having a terrible session last night due to fatigue. It was the first time I've started to get angry at myself in ages. Then some little aboriginal girls that live near the park came down and asked if they could use my board. They spent half an hour rolling around and laughing and it warmed my icy heart. I gave them my setup and went home much happier.
Skate in new shoes... one of the best feelings ever.
Sweated out the beer I drank this weekend
Went to the indoor today, elbow pads no longer required? :D
Figured out halfcab nose wheelies. Pop it hard but keep it low, that'll put front foot in the right spot w/o trying to come down into a nosewheelie from too high up. Luh dem lightbulb moments.
This was particularly awesome cause the last time I went skating I had my first "getting old" moment, felt like gravity was turned up and jumping higher than 6" off the ground suddenly required effort. It motivated me to eat better, cut down drinking/smoking, and skate more, cause that shit is unacceptable
I did around 50 ss shovits without pop todayI loved Danny Sargent's(around the 40second mark) backed up by a stance big-spin.
Some grom brought one of those Element pole jams to the park making my dream of pole jam-nose manuals a realitythat's tit! i went out twice today, me and bruh man seen jon carey at the park. dude is the best! i asked him about this rapper from oxford 'stulius caesar' and jc goes 'you saying stuey's name makes me not want to talk to you. how much can one man shit on me before i walk away?'

Filmed a trick Friday, did my first real rail yesterday, and somehow found the energy to go skate the park for a few hours with all my friends in 90 degree weather after I ate. My ankle feels like concrete now, but it was totally worth it.

Skating is the best and I really like this thread.
This week I went from an 8.25 popsicle with 139's to an 8.75 (slightly) shaped board with 159's just to experiment and it's been really fun. I haven't really lost any flip tricks, and landing feels more solid. I am feeling good on my board after having a few weeks where I felt off.
I also filmed last night with my best friend for 4 hours at some crazy/weird spots and it was just so much fun. He and I have very good chemistry skating/filming together. He rips and I get so much joy from filming so it's just a blast. Plus night footage looks so awesome.

Yesterday when I got off work (overnights) I went to my local park right as the sun was coming up. It doesn't actually open until 10 AM, and there is a gate that was locked, but the weather was just too perfect to bother with that. Skated for about two hours completely alone until 2 kids on scooters showed up. I let them know the easiest way to get in and the three of us did our thing wordlessly for another hour or so until I got too tired and just went home. That was the first time I've really ever been able to fully enjoy my local park. Without having to worry about being in anyone's way, I could finally get my confidence back in the bigger of the two bowls there. I've been mostly off of a board for about 5 years until January. I'm already almost at the point of where I was in "peak skating" from like 17/18, but I think my style is probably a little better since I'm not so damn lanky any more. I'm not really sure what I'm expected to be doing at 30 on a board, but no one really says shit to me. The one or two dudes I'm friendly with at the park are about 10 years younger than me and fucking rip. It's super inspiring, really. I forgot how much fucking fun skateboarding is. I was a fool to give it up for as long as I did. Thanks to you guys here too for keeping me hyped on it. None of my friends that still skate live in the same state as me so this is my skate community for the most part. Thanks for reading my stoned rant if you made it this far, too.

Approach at speed with your feet over the bolts, your angle at first should be almost a complete 90 degrees to the curb. Lean back a little with slightly more weight on your back foot. Get comfortable with the feeling of smashing your truck into the curb then as you feel more comfortable with the trucks ability to get on top of the curb without you lifting add a little carve into the motion. You want to be powerful with the smash but light footed once you're up. Whenever I've taught someone how to do it the most important thing is the almost direct angle to begin with. The board plus a little carve does the rest of the trick for you. Took my boy to the park (not skatepark, nature park with little area where you can skate) and it was dope to just see him roll around with other skaters. He's only two and a half but you can see the stoke in his eyes. All the other skaters there were cool with him getting in the way or whatever and were really looking out for him when their boards flew out etc.
I imagine tiny little bank next to curb so I can grind the "coping", it makes it somehow easier to me. Tight little curve just before curb and immediately getting youre shoulders linear with curb when you hit it should do the job. All the other skaters there were cool with him getting in the way or whatever and were really looking out for him when their boards flew out etc.[close]
I can do fs nosegrind slappies and it's just a matter of putting your front foot a little higher and committing, I can almost squeeze out slappy crooks, I'm working on them but one of my friends has them dialled so I'll ask him and report back.
skating alone in the park and being really into it without thinking about anything. I got so into it that I felt the movement and stuff and I even stopped thinking about which tricks I want to learn and I stopped being afraid of bailing. For me that is the best feeling just completely relaxing in the movement and doing tricks without consciously thinking about them. Like you only think in movement. I hadn't felt that in a long time. It was great!Getting into that flow state is the best. It's an addictive feeling.
Today I enjoyed just how fucking hard skating is. I don't know if it was the bee sting on the back of my calf, or the coke and lasagne I ate before hand, but I just couldn't do it today! :o My legs were weak, my feet were flying all over the place, my pop was in shambles, just a wreck! Some days you have it, some days you don't.. That's what I enjoy, that skating doesn't present itself on a silver platter like some jolly rancher whore, you've gotta die first.
Slamming. Getting lost in your head and feeling immortal just to slam on a a pebble or crack. Really puts you in your place.
Did my first ollie in over 7 months. Broke my leg pretty bad in December and the recovery is slow. Even in the best case scenario the docs say it takes one year to be fully back to normal.Write it on your fridge or hand or forehead or get it tattooed on yourself, "do your rehab today". The more you do the better you'll get. The biggest mistake is feeling "ok" and slipping on it.
Anyway, I've been rolling around on a cruiser board for a while now and it feels pretty good. Went to a parking lot spot with some nice curbs with a mate and did a few 50-50s on a curb where you can just ride directly on it. No need to ollie or slappy. Slammed quite good on one of those on my hurt leg and my fucked up shoulder, but it just felt good taking that slam. I knew right away it didn't fuck anything up. Anyway, after cruising around the parking lot, grinding the curb a bit and doing a bunch of reverts i for some reason decided to try a flatground ollie. First few weren't really all that successful but then i pulled one off. Hurt my knee though. Did another one and it hurt my knee also. Cruised around some more and decided to try more and god damn i pulled one off that felt good. Not high at all, but it was proper and felt good and didn't hurt one bit. Did maybe 20 more, cruised around some more and came home.
I'm beyond stoked right now. I really feel like I'm finally coming back, that I'm gonna be able to skate again. It's these little steps in the recovery that normally wouldn't mean anything that get you so fucking fired up and happy and also helps motivate on keeping up with the recovery exercises and all. :)
Been having a particularly rough month in life, which has left me with no opportunity or real motivation to skate. Yesterday there was an event at my local shop (the dudes who do that Look Back Library thing with old mags) so I pulled myself up by the bootstraps and went, which ended with a mini ramp sesh at my homie's place. I know it's kinda corny, but it really changes the tides of things when a good session makes you briefly forget everything else that's going on in the world, even if that session is less than an hour. Thank you skateboarding <3

A good feeling ollie is amazing. It doesn't have to be high, but you can feel it stuck to your feet and know you could make it shifty or slam it down into a manual and it will just stick. Some days you have them and some days not so much but they feel so good.

What Soda Jerk said.
I broke my leg and ankle badly a few years ago and have a bunch of screws and a plate, it took forever to muster the first ollie but shit it felt good in all its rocketed glory when I landed.
Major thing was trying to rebuild confidence, still struggling with that as any sort of jarring bail or landing can give me a numbing pain where the leg break occured (snapped the fibula in half) quite disconcerting.
Before I got broken off I used to get frustrated when my back tails werent sliding for long on nice sized ledges or was struggled to tre clean down shit.. now I have a shit eating grin just pulling some basic fifty's on a low curb and a couple of little boardslides. Skateboarding is beautiful.
Ollied two dead squirrels on my cruiser board on the way to get beer. That's the most dead squirrels i've ever ollied.

Learned slappies yesterday. Holy fuck, what a battle that's been. Years. I don't know why, but I just couldn't get the hang of it and it drove me crazy.
Found the perfect curb and the stars aligned. So, so happy. I've always wanted to slappy.
Learned slappies yesterday. Holy fuck, what a battle that's been. Years. I don't know why, but I just couldn't get the hang of it and it drove me crazy.happy the battle is over for you man, similar story, I found one of those magical curbs this morning and finally got slappies down (:
Found the perfect curb and the stars aligned. So, so happy. I've always wanted to slappy.
Did my first ollie in over 7 months. Broke my leg pretty bad in December and the recovery is slow. Even in the best case scenario the docs say it takes one year to be fully back to normal.

I just got off a really bad foot injury, and it's still hurting in my arch, so I can't last particularly long before the pain becomes too much to deal with. I went out to get my tricks back that I've lost since I injured myself, and man did it take a lot of willpower and determination. I was mainly trying to get kickflips and heelflips back. I rolled my ankle on a heelflip and I've been scared to do them for fear of doing it again, but I powered through and finally landed one, albeit sketchy. Next up was kickflips, and the combination of bad habits and a slight bit of fear ran through my head as I missed each one I tried. Finally, I convinced my head that I was trying it up a little Euro gap and finally landed it before heading back to my room for the night. I just had the urge to skate after a long day of early and night classes, and I'm absolutely glad I did. I know I'm not gonna just land those tricks every try now that I got one of each, but tonight showed me that I really don't need to let my head mess with me and I just need to keep trying to get what I want. Skateboarding's awesome.

i got to four out of six before i clipped
Ollied an ottoman in my living room while drunk last night, got a good response from the plebeians
was at our DIY and who should be there but Bruh Man from the 5th floor! in a blue dickies onesie no less. been 2-3 yrs since we've kicked it, too long. that made my day and i got a 31 yr old landscaper buddy i palled around w/ skating in the sun is it's own reward.
Swapping out Indy 159s with Bones mediums to Ace 55s to my 8.9" cruiser board and pushing some 8 km with it to get my bike. Felt like home! Awesome feeling even if they're not properly broken in yet. That turn is magical!I love it so much more than Indys. Got Aces on all my setups now and plan on keeping it that way! :)Wait until you bend all the axles. Not hatin' just sayin'

left my house thinking of getting new wheels and i bombed my usual hills but everything seemed different. and completely new to me.
i was going faster than usual and traffic at the bottom of the 2nd hill was at a stop. i had to thread the needle at speed w/ a knapsack but did i footdrag? no i did not. i've got a little jake phelps on my shoulder at times like these.
i had to lean way to the right and take a side street to slow down since i was cocked and blocked from crossing the bottom intersection but it was exhilarating sliding between traffic and riding it out.
i ended up buying some 56s and i like that shit more!
I've been making it a point to skate switch more often, and not push switch mongo because mine looks awful. I'm actually getting pretty comfortable with it and landing switch shuvs, back 180s and switch flips which I could never do. It feels awesome.

Forcing yourself to skate switch between spots or tries at a trick improve this so fast.
I just found out they took the skate stoppers off this ledge by my apartment so I went and skated it after work, felt good to hit a street spot instead of the park all the time.
Frontside slappies. Haven’t done them before today. I got pretty faded and decided to try one and it almost worked, a couple more attempts did it.Sick, really want to learn slappies this year! A few parks have the perfect curbs to learn on just kinda scared to mash em frontside or backside lol.
I was skating our diy yesterday and I was feeling a bit off, kinda just cruised and drank beers more than real skating when all of a sudden this guy in a wheelchair arrived, just parked his chair at the other corner where people were. Of course being a bit drunk and social fucker that I am I asked him to join the crew and in no time he was there cruising, doing manuals and shit and man, that gave me a blast to actually skate instead of drinking/chitchatting. Best sessions this year so far :)Reading this made me happy.
yesterdays lunch time sesh
completely eating shit within a minute of entering the park rolling into a 3 foot mellow quarterpipe.
sometimes a nice body slam first thing really speeds up the warm up process. and that is exactly what happened here. ended up being a fun session.

Simply that I did it...well kinda. I'm 45 with a torn meniscus and a surgically repaired ankle that is dodgy at the best of times. All I did was skate a block to the mailbox trying to hold some manuals and ollied up the curb...but it had been a long time. Won't say any of it felt solid but it's a start and I'm already thinking "I should get new wheels..."I put a new board together last night and rode it to the mailbox doing the same thing; also little speed check slides and some shifty oliies. I had so much fun. Rolled the right ankle a year ago and it still feels weak, torn meniscus in the right knee has healed but am dealing with lower back issues and pain shooting down my left thigh into my knee now. I'm far from solid. But constant stretching and keeping everything moving seem to help.
This morning at a park. I watched three guys all about the same age skate together, all couldn’t have clinged to a different era of skating any harder if they triedhahaha, that's a great story
The first dude showed up all pads on a sword and skull reissue, then his buddy showed up on some Chris miller board, the last guy showed up on this twig of a board couldn’t have been more then 7.5 and atop it were the chunkiest Globes I’ve seen since the ct-iv
But they all were having a good time and even moved their stuff so I could skate the ledge.
First enjoyable interaction with someone at a park in a long time
